when using SLi (e.g. 2 x 8800GTX's 768MB Cards), Does the CPU become the bottleneck at 1920x1200 Resolution?

would there be a difference, when using sli, between 4ghz and 6MB's of L2 cache (e.g. E8400 OC'd) versus 3.6ghz and 4MB's of L2 Cache (e.g. E6600 OC'd)?

Depends on the game or application. But no, 400MHZ won't make a very noticeable difference (if any).

that said the 8800s while still awesome cards, are not top of the line anymore.

2 x 8800GTX's in SLi are faster than a single GTX 280, by about 20-30% on average. for less than half the cost of the 280.

basically all i'm asking is whether or not the CPU becomes the bottleneck when running SLi at high resolutions.

nope. two or four cores can make a difference in some games - the cod4-5 waw engine for instance.

the FPS in call of duty 5 are so high in the first place though. i dont think i need a quad core. not worth the extra money, and I rarely encode video or audio, so those 2 cores would be sitting idle most of the time.

I don't know about your second question, but if you're using the CPU in your sig, then yes, it'll be a bottleneck.

no no, i'm upgrading to an E6600 for $50. i'm wondering if that compared to en E8400 will uncover any bottleneck.

from what i've seen and heard, the E6600 will do jsut fine.

ow great gonna get one aswell lucky me
