Well a quick back story, I bought a 3G iPhone after upgrading from the EDGE iPhone, but after a few weeks I really was getting upset, mad, pissed with the phone to the point I was going to just put it on eBay. Then I realized I was still under my 30 days with AT&T and Apple and could return it and get a full refund and still get another phone with a lower price. :D

Well I knew the HTC Touch Pro had just launched with AT&T (Fuze) on AT&T's website, and I began calling all stores in my town trying to find one. Well I got lucky and spend an evening returning my iPhone and getting the Touch Pro. Before I go on, personal opinion, but I am really glad I traded in the iPhone.

After I got the phone and drove to my office I was eager to get online and setting up the phone, but hit a rather large wall. The phone would not connect through the 3G network in any program, so the phone call to tech support began. To make a long story short, after two hours and trouble shooting we were able to get the phone online. Also, apparently the phone is not suppose to launch or be sold from AT&T until the 22nd of November which is one reason why it took two hours to resolve the issue. No one in AT&T had a clue what phone I had, how to troubleshoot it, or how I got the phone. Though it seems we just did a troubleshoot as if it were a Tilt and that got everything working.

I have only had this phone for a day, but so far things have been looking very solid so far. I love the keyboard, the screen looks very nice and clean. A bit unresponsive at times, have to press a bit firm with either my finger or the stylus. I am still learning the ins and outs of this phone and how things operate, but coming from the iPhone I will say something. This phone has so many options, the iPhone you could change somethings and I even jailbroke my phones, but the Touch Pro (WinMo 6.1) has so many options and features to change I am actually reading through the manual (~290 pages) and the tips/tricks help guides. The phone is a thicker than the iPhone, but while it does add some size, it feels great in my hands and I have very long/skinny fingers. Something I have not gotten to work yet is the Bluetooth, I cannot get my headset to connect. I have the phone search for Bluetooth but it never finds anything, but I will worry about this tonight when I get home and read through some things on my headset and see if I need to do anything with it specifically.

If anyone has any questions, comments, want a picture of a specific thing with the phone, let me know and I will do my best to answer quickly.

Well now that you know my short story and enjoyed it hopefully, here is the phone and box contents. Sorry for the sub-par photos, they were taken with a co-workers iPhone.

Finally picked mine up last night O_O been waiting since the Raphael released to the rest of the world.

Great phone, GPS is not being nice but I have not had time to test it fully standing out side just next to a window. My only other complaint is the thing powers itself off and wont alert me to phone calls (that or I am def lol) but aside from those which are fixable I love the phone. Smaller and better than the s730 I came to it from.

Taking forever to get all my programs and things migrated over lol. Also need to get album art in for my music shortcuts.

Tons of features that will keep me learning for a while.

(to the OP ) congrats on yours :)

Thanks you, I must ask, where can I find programs for WinMo and how to customize things more than what I am just quickly reading through. While the AT&T manual I have found (really long) has some good info, basically it takes you to basic settings but nothing more advance.

definately check out xda=developers and their rafeal(sp?) section

there are cooked roms, new cabs and tweaks..

i own A tilt and will own a touch something sometime soon :)

gl guy and enjoy your HTC products

Wow...thank you so much for that, been there for a few minutes and already learned a lot.

Do you know if it uses the web without notifying the user? I want one but I don't want to purchase the data plan.

Currently I believe you have to buy a data plan when you purchase the phone through AT&T. Though when I called and was talking to tech support, they said my account never had a data plan setup which was problem one, but they quickly added it for it.

Ok, thanks for the info.

Well, the bluetooth issue has been resolved. It was my headset not wanting to go into pairing mode, but I finally got it. Hopefully tomorrow will be a good solid test of how the battery life compares to the iPhone, because on average I would get up at about 7 A.M. and not plug the phone back in until 9 P.M. and it would be well into the 10-20% range.

I managed to get one on Tuesday without the data plan. Took an hour just to buy the bloody phone. So far I'm rather happy with it. VGA rocks for remote desktop and web browsing. Certainly is a nice upgrade to my HTC TyTN II.

I'm going to grab one that's Sprint branded I think as an ugrade from my HTC Titan (Verizon XV6800), and unlock it for Verizon use since that's the network I use. I was wondering, anyone who has the phone already, what's a web page look like on the VGA screen, with the keyboard out (so it's oriented horizontally) in Pocket IE? The screen's the major reason I want to upgrade... I had the pleasure of seeing a VGA screen on an older non-phone PPC years back at 3.8" and it looked amazing... kind of interested in what it would look like on a modern website on the phone.

For those wondering also, you can find lots of tweaks/hacks at ppcgeeks.com forums too. That's where I found all the info on unlocking the Sprint CDMA version into a Verizon one with the Verizon software/everything :). I figure this way I don't have a reduced amount of RAM *and* I get it cheaper: win/win!

This is really the phone I've been waiting for... almost forever, it seems :D. Lots of them have come out, but for years and years none with a VGA screen, slide-out keyboard, fast CPU, beefy amount of RAM, phone integrated, etc. etc. were around for the U.S. in CDMA flavor... seems the time has come :D!

I've been thinking about switching to AT&T to get this phone. I have an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile but 3G would be nice since T-Mo's 3G is only in a few places.

I told myself I'd never get a WinMo phone again but I want to know if the touch flow is laggy for you guys or is it smooth? Also, how's the web browser in comparison to the iPhone?

I will get you pictures of the screen Opera with the keyboard out and the keyboard in, I guess I could load up IE and see how it looks and snap some shots. ;)
Using my finger to get around TouchFlow 3D has been a bit flaky, meaning that I still am holding down sliding across the options and it stops. Though coming from the iPhone also, it is a different style screen/touch sensitive. So far the browser has been wonderful, I still have not figured all the tricks out of how to do things, but once I do it is just as if not better than mobile Safari.

I had to hard reset mine after I realized my inital setup + ATT BS got corrupted. Now it works like a champ though and I'm running the Vodafone theme I found on xda. There is a ton of info on this phone there. Under the forums look for the Raphael (HTC internal name) and click away. I recommend reading the wiki they have on it. It's still a WinMo phone, but the screen makes it a much more enjoyable experience and TouchFlo adds a really clean way to interact with it. It's not iPhone clean, but there is a lot more functionality to be gleaned from this thing. The bug-fixed cooked ROMS are coming!

I use the Sprint version, and the screen is beautiful....BUT

I wish that Sprint didn't change the overall look, they use a different backing and the side is "chrome" (yuck) I like the AT&T's all back, more subtle and clean look.

although the windows based OS has improved a lot compared to my old PPC 6700, it is still slow as snails when compared to the Palm OS from my old Treo 700p =(...but overall I am really happy w/ this phone

This and the Ericsson X1 are the best all-around phones out there, IMO. Looking forward to getting one.

The X2 uses WinMo and the review I saw said it was slow and obnoxious confirmation messages (@#$%ing Windows). Unfortunately, should be similar for this one (same processor, same OS), but what can you do if you want the features?

Opera Mini for WinMo blows pocket ie out of the water. I couldn't believe the difference!

XDA is definately a good place, on the Raphael forums I post under 10332007. Have not contributed much but been lurking on that section since before the phone released back in August.

I need to get the Java update for Opera so I can view a few more full web sites, and do some more tweaking with the GPS settings

battery life is great considering how much I have been hammering the unit and other things.
I love the sleep feature on the phone, and I still have a lot of menu's to sift through but overall this is an amazing piece of hardware. It works solidly, where as my s730 always had issues.

Had mine for a while since they were released in Taiwan (Genmay thread).

I highly recommend heading over to XDA Developers and checking out the Raphael section. I'm running Romeos 1.40 ROM and loving it.

It is limited to 32gb, but 16gb cards are the biggest available at the moment.

looks nice.. considering selling my mogul and getting one of these.. not sure of the overal benefit though besides nicer screen... which is the main reason I would consider purchasing one.

Yeah, I decided it isn't worth the jump for just the screen, really... my Titan (aka Sprint Mogul and Verizon XV6800) has everything I could want but the VGA screen.

ya this is was what the tilt was supposed to be, when i got it back in early january. I still love my tilt, but this phone is downright beautiful. i can't justify paying 350 for a slightly upgraded tilt though. The phone is serving its purposes and after flashing it with some nice cooked roms its just as good but not as good looking

I went with the HTC Diamond (without the keyboard) for Sprint because the Touch Pro was too expensive, too thick and heavy for my tastes, and I'm not always texting/browsing so I couldn't justify spending extra on the slide-out keyboard.

I bought the Diamond for $160 shipped without having to sign a new contract because I got it off Ebay using a 10% off coupon and 25% off live.com cashback!

I don't have a data plan, so I hope they will just activate it for me without any hassle.

Dammit...just picked one up too finally (hooray 25% cashback + 10% holiday coup as well). I could not justify the nearly $280 more for the cheapest Touch Pro on there just for the QWERTY keyboard + SDHC slot...don't have a text plan anyways.

Took a gamble on being able to tell Sprint to piss off on trying to sell me a data plan, and just utilize built-in WiFi in public places. IIRC, you can use it as a GPS and everything whilst only on a phone plan, right?

Cool! Congrats dude! Seems you're in the same boat as me. I don't think Sprint will give me a problem activating it over the phone and forcing a data plan on me since I didn't buy the phone from them or sign a new contract. I'm eligible for the $150 off + rebate thingy with a new 2-year agreement, but I don't want to be locked in for another 2 years just in case I decide to quit.

I'm not sure about the GPS, but I think it should work without a data plan if you download TomTom software or another third party app. The phone doesnt come with GPS software out of the box, IIRC. If you use Google maps, you could obviously only use wi-fi to update your position if you don't have a data plan.

By the way, which seller did you get yours from? I got mine from MobilTele.

how did you get the 25 percent thingy?

you can set google maps to only use a wifi connection. Just be a little cautious with what you do. email and all of that will update no matter what connection you are on, so you might get pinned by that

Seems alright. I wouldn't call it anything extraordinary, but it's not horrible either. If you would like, you can buy an extended battery for it.

Coming from the iPhone the battery is a lot better, this weekend when I was using it heavily, web browsing, phone calls, with bluetooth always on, it would make it through the day with no warnings coming up saying low battery. I went from 9AM to about 4AM without charging it and under some good use.

Blue Fox is correct, you can buy extra batteries which makes this phone even that much better.

Did AT&T keep the HDMI port or did they remove that? I can't remember if it needs a special adapter (possibly through the HTC-all-in-wonder USB plug). I remember that being one of the Rapheal's main features (hooking it up to your TV for 640x480 movie/game goodness).

I agree with the other posters though. Keep a look out for the custom ROM's - they will greatly enhance the speed of the phone over the sluggish AT&T stuff. It's kinda like installing a fresh copy of Windows XP on a DELL machine versus keeping their crapware on it.

As for the dataplan, since AT&T charges way too much for their dataplan, I figured I'd share a neat little trick. Turn off your phone, logon to your account via the website and change your phone (select a flip phone). Purchase the Unlimited Internet bundle for the flip phone. Then turn on the phone. Blamo. I've had the Unlimited Data + 1500txt for $29/mo for over a year now. Usually it costs around $39-$49. Before I added the text, it was unlimited data for around $19.
