It's too bad this is such a power hog. It throws as much heat and uses as much current as a CRT does

what revision did you get from their refurb monitor?
I went ahead and bought one of the 2408wfp's from dell, refurbished. It came surprisingly fast. I got it hooked up and noticed that the blues are a bit strong and there is a color shift from left to right. I only used it one day, but going to look at it closer today after work.
I needed this monitor for photo editing so accurate colors are the most important. Still waiting for my monitor calibrator to come in though.
Has anyone received a 2408wfp recently without this uneven color gradient??
I received the A01
Just in case it comes to it, can anyone recommend another monitor that is similar to the 2408WFP in picture quality (and has low input lag)? I may never get a 2408WFP that doesn't have obvious flaws...
Well I now retract this statement...exchange #2 arrived today and it's revision A00 (refurbished). I took it out of the box just to test to see if it had the same brightness/color issues as the A01 I currently have (no intentions of keeping it since it's the older revision), and it turns out the panel physically has long scratches on it that don't come out. I guess Dell doesn't put much evaluation into what qualifies as a refurb! The first exchange I did they sent me a refurb A01. I believe they do exchanges based on model number, so I guess in theory any time I exchange it I should always be receiving A01.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll start looking into it. I basically need something that has accurate color reproduction but relatively low input lag (for a non-TN panel). I do game every so often so I don't want lag to be an issue...
Love my old 2407wfp (nonHC)... it's been the perfect monitor for like 2 years now. I think it's really funny how companies like Dell somehow manage to take 1 step forward and 2 steps back with each product they make. The 2407wfp was a completely awesome monitor, the HC introduced a bunch of BS, and now the 2408 model is well, inferior.
Guys, just buy a new 2407wfp off ebay or wherever.
i would say that's more than a bit, friend
a semi-related request: does anybody know what the input lag is on the 2004FPW? i don't have a CRT and if i knew what the input lag was on this thing then that might help my decision with current monitors.
Can anyone anticipate price drops on this monitor based on Dell's history? I am very close to buying it, and my current monitor is slowly breaking more and more, so i don't know how much longer I can hold out. But I don't want to buy and then see it go down by $200 in a few weeks.
Thanks
Firstly Hi Guys!...(its my first post )
I recently got this monitor and have a few questions i just want to clarify
First Q is about the pixel mapping feature. Basically i connected my PS3 to it (via HDMI and also tried DVI) and switched the picture output to 1:1 (the pixel mapping option). Now on the PS3's XMB (main menu) i got the black bars which i knew i would get. Now i loaded up a few demo's to test the screen out and when i did the game started and it was like a small box within the screen with massive black borders around it. This was the same for some of my other Demos/games which i found out run at 720p. It did make sense to me as to why it was like this but then also tried 720p video but that does not bring up massive borders or make the screen the size it did with the games. Instead it just has the black bars on the top and bottom. So my Q is whehther it is ment to be like this. Sorry but this is pretty much my first monitor with all these funky features lol.
Another question is regarding input lag. Would input lag be more noticable when playing pc games as apposed to console games (like a PS3) ?
Also is there some type of test to see what firmware version you have? I ask because i was told i would get the latest version but judging by the A00 on the box that does not seem so
Thanks guys
Also I don't see the hype with PVA monitors, all you do is trade image brightness shifting for color shifting with a little brightness shift. Either go cheap with a TN or go all in with an IPS monitor. You can get the 24" HP IPS for not that much more than the "deal" listed in this thread, worth it IMHO.
I've seen people complaining about their HP 2475W being laggy.
Well, coming from the 2408wfp to the HP 2475W, the HP has much less lag. I followed the thread here on the HP for awhile and after owning one I'd say a lot of negative stuff said is total BS. I remember a lot of talk about the fonts and that the pixel layout was really vertical RGB which isn't supported in windows. Total bull. I boot up Ubuntu livecd and changed to different pixel orientations horizontal, vertical RBG BGR. It's straight RGB and cleartype works great, fonts look grreat. I believe a lot of what you might read are just a fictional accounts.
I just read a review of LP2475W on prad and it indeed has lag. It was recorded between 11 to 54ms and avg. of 32ms, equivalent to almost 2 fps. Not really noticeable in everyday use as it will only appear to be noticeable in some games.

Unfortunately, they don't have a review of 2408wfp so I can't compare them, but I think all monitors with multimedia interfaces have lag.
