Remember that number pad that was also a mouse? Well, some guy has taken that concept a step further and turned the whole keyboard into a mouse. Ugh, while the idea may “work” I don’t see anyone actually using one of these.

If you thought your premium mouse had a lot of buttons, check out the Glide Keyboard from Weston Boege. Resting on low friction pads, the keyboard slides around your desk picking up the movement through an optical sensor mounted underneath. The keyboard also integrates traditional mousing controls into the moulded palm rest that grips your hands as they move.

Alright, now we can trde carpal tunnel for rotator cuff irritation and neck spasms.

This is the most ergonomicy thing I have ever seen.

I'm sure it will help with touch typing too.

Aint gonna see the day of light.

I can see some uses for this thing, but realistically, if you need to keep your hands on your keyboard for speed, you most likley already know your way around key shortcuts and the infamous tab button ;)

hmmm no.

I can see this scratching up my desk surface over time. No thanks.

Dare I add: of course you don't like it Steve! It'll eat into your Ratpadz sale! :D

I kid! I kid!

Availability: Not a chance

It is just a design submitted by someone. Not an actual prototype of a product.

Did anyone else notice half the keys are fused together as one? It is a spoof.

Could be just touch-screen like typing. When your hands are too busy moving the keyboard around, you won't have the ability to push a key down I think.

I love the site name "Yanko" (which sound perverted) and their slogan "Form beyond function"

It looks like a great place for designers who can't come up with anything useful.

Seriously. Some of these industrial designers need a kick in the fucking balls for coming up with such stupid and short sighted ideas. Do this moron now understand the human factoring of moving something so bulky in such an awkward way? Moving a mouse with one hand cupped over it is much different than having two open hands spread across a keyboard and moving the entire keyboard as if it were a mouse. The dynamic are different, the muscles involved are different, the entire motion is different and just plain weird from an ergonomic point of view.

Idea exploration is a good thing and fun, but some ideas should never see the light of day due to their sheer idiocy. This is one of those times.

I don't know why but the first thing to pop into my head was what if they made it float on an something like air hockey table?

I know, completely unrealistic (if not impossible), and would be annoying as ... to try to do anything productive, but it might be fun for a while to play with...

oh, and by the way, I never thanked [H] properly for the Ratpadz. They rock! I've got 2 (or 3) for work and one for home.

Cheers! :D

I know it's just a design for the hell of it, but it's gonna need to remove a ridiculous amount of friction to be useful. Not to mention you'll have both hands on for extra force.

Sorry, I had a physics quiz earlier. D:

Everyone would need bigger desks - maybe bigger monitors too since we would have to scoot them back farther. And instead of picking up your mouse to re-center it, you would need to pick the whole thing up.

I can only think of one use, if it had sensors on both sides you could use your keyboard as bars in motrocycle or quad games, maybe a wheel in car racing games. Other than that, worthless.

Hoverboard? That would be awesome :p

It's amazing people actually work on these types of projects. What a colossal waste of time.

It's more amazing that someone would waste their time to design something so terrible.

The risk of Carpal Tunnel wouldn't be any higher than if using an ordinary keyboard and mouse.

Anyone care to post the "Bunny with pancake on head" picture. This makes about as much sense as that...

Kyle, what is the material that the Ratzpad made out of? Is it teflon impregnated or is it made out of some teflon derivative? Just curious.

We have a company blend our own High Density Polyethylene. HDPE. Still looking for a company to do textured Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene....so if any of you know anyone that can do this, please drop me a mail.

You are welcome, thanks for the support.

If you make a 10% or larger Ratzpad I will buy 8 of them as soon as they are available. You can freakin' guarantee this will happen.

Several of my designer customers have resorted to using large blocks of coated wood to work on because A: the currently available mouse pads are too small and B: using a table top or other other desktop surface throws off their accuracy.

We have not settled on size yet, but likely a bit larger than 10%, thinking more about 35 to 50% more surface area.

And Ratpadz will still be made in the USA. I vow to no overseas production.

Customer: Hey, I just wanted to call regarding the build quality of my mouse pad.
Rep: Thank you for calling Ratpadz support: Have you powered off your device yet?

Damn you Kyle!

Serious: I will be in for uno, possible dos. Especially if they are super huge.

Wow.

I can imagine people flinging crap off of their tables right now. You'd need a very clean and big desk to use one of these things.

Well, a good FPS and one of these suckers would probably help work out our arms. hahaha...

I think that people should have their office chairs function as the mouse. That'll be fun.

Oops, I should've saved that one for American Inventor. Doh!!!
