Hello all,

I'm looking to upgrade from my current Klipsch Promedia 2.0 set of speakers. Tonight's woot (post woot-off) is a set of Energy C-100 bookshelf speakers.

Does anyone here on hardforum own these? They're roughly the same price as the Swan M10 which are back on audioinsider as of now. I like the bookshelf speakers better since there is no sub to deal with.

What do you hip cats think?

Never heard the C-100's, but Energy is quality speakers.

I owned the Klipschs 2.0 set a while back, they sound fine but lack the deep bass and loss a lot of clarity at higher volume.

I'd say go for it, a full size bookshelf set especially Energy branded would be a very nice upgrade.

Question: Would I need a receiver/amp or something to power these? I'm wanting to hook these up to my PC w/ Razer Barracuda Soundcard. Also, what type of cable? Any old speaker cable?

(I'm pretty new to the whole venturing outside of "PC Speakers" arena.

No, I think the soundcard will do just fine. As for type of cable, it doesn't say on the website, but yeah, I suspect an RCA cable will do.

And yeah, these speakers look decent. I might have gone for them if I needed some.

I think i'm in over my head here...

Some comments on woot say that you WILL need an amp/receiver to power these. Plus I have no idea what kind of cables go into the plugs that are on the back of these speakers.

Is there a good tutorial anywhere here on hardforum for noobs trying to break into the higher end audio arena?

Nope.

These aren't powered computer speakers, these will need an amplifier or receiver.. I thought this was basic knowledge?????

Oh oops. Lol. Sorry, spoiled by my Berhinger MS40's...

Yeah, this will need an amp. And receiver comes with an amp. I thought he just needed a DAC, silly me.

I'm tempted to jump on these as well. If I'm going to set up a 5.1 channel system for computer use etc., should I get 3 pairs of these and use one as a center, or should I get the dedicated center?

lool misread that, i'd just get the center

I bought them! I'm going to use my t-amp. Looks like klipsch bought out that energy company not long ago so thats why they look pretty similar in build. I bought the center speaker too so i can move it to my tv later if i want.

I grabbed 2 pairs of the bookshelf speakers, and a center channel. I just need to finish building my subwoofer and then I'm good to go.
