Directx 11 2009!!!!!

Are you kidding me with this crap? I hope they are joking.

Not that we're even capable of using dx10 to its fullest. AT can run dx10.1 but.. we all know what a joke that is.

lol i was thinking the same. most games that have directx 10 on compared to directx 9 dont have much of a difference

hope this time the graphics will look much better.

we might even see crysis 2 or even farcry 3 using directx 11.

seems like the news is all over the net now.

and i bet when it does get released amd will have some kind of advantage seeing as they are developing the chip

oooooo cant wait >.<

Holy Whaaa!?!?

That's good news I think.

So MS is going to push Windows 7 forward ASAP huh?

Time to get in touch with my aunt that works for
microsoft and find out when to expect shit to hit
the fan.

herd it was just an improved version of vista were they worked out most the bugs.

anyone plannign on going to the convention?

microsoft is giving away free eairly copies of windows 7 for testing

Here we go again, new technology while hardware haven't advance enough to run DX10 probably.

15fps DX11 games incoming....

dx10 and 11 for that matter will only start being made use of when nvidia finally produces a proper hardware solution and not dx9 and a bit.

I like to buy and try new products, but the situation with vista is frustrating, most of the features in Win7 can be introduced as service pack for Vista.

I fail to see any fundamental changes more than tweaks and improvements to what already exists in windows Vista.

The only thing that may satisfy me is, if Microsoft acknowledge that fact, and admit it publicly by making the upgrade option from Vista to Win7 significantly low in price.

Money never was a problem for me, but I hate to feel ripped off.

"Multithreading support will include asynchronous resource loading, which can actually happen while rendering threads are executing. Draw and state submission will also be threaded, which will allow rendering work to be spread out across multiple threads."

Also

"Quite a few features—with the exception of hardware tessellation—will be supported on DX10 hardware. Of course, DX10 hardware will continue to run games and apps in DX10 mode. But unlike DX10, which only runs on DX10-compliant hardware, elements of DX11-specific features will also run on DX10 hardware."

Very nice

I'm liking some of the features that they're introducing so I hope the GPUs will be able to keep. I think that things like Multithreading support and Tessellation could be very useful and could help to boost graphics beyond even what DX10 gives us now.....hopefully Ati/Nvidia has some good things coming in the next year or so to allow us to experience all these new features without watching a slideshow, lol.

What's bothering me is...

Right now, $300+ solutions can run dx10 semi-smoothly
The rest of the cards, which is quite a hefty figure, run dx9 w/ no problems. Hell, I prefer dx9 > dx10 because the drop in fps isn't worth the hard-to-discern-eye-candy.
When dx11 releases, video cards will [presumably] be just running dx10 smoothly, and dx11 will just become another sampling of the Crysis facade. Not to mention the number of people still holding on to dx9 cards will [presumably] be quite a figure by itself.
So to run dx11, the first year or so will require the wallet emptying top end cards (again).

Anyways, the bottom line is that it seems to be another cat and mouse game that is just ridiculous - hardware is nowhere near software and the gap seems to just keep widening, now more than ever.

Not that we're even capable of using dx10 to its fullest. AT can run dx10.1 but.. we all know what a joke that is.

who is "we"?
physx looks more like a joke to me, it does nothing but cheating in 3d mark, while cards 10.1 actually own the cards without.

"we"? um.. there are no games out there that uses dx10.1, and the one that did pulled it out (assassin's creed). so "we" would refer to anyone who knows that.

The ones that will according to http://www.slashgear.com/amd-to-support-three-new-directx-101-games-2714729/
The graphics cards will be used in EA Phenomic Studio’s game Battleforge, Sega’s Stormrise, and NHN Games’ Cloud 9. All three of the games will be using DirectX 10.1. The games that are expected to use the cards and Direct 10.1 together range from strategy games, to a sci-fi title.

so yea, 10.1, absolute joke. (dunno what "AT" means, think it might have been ATI.. *shrugs*)

wow and i was going to buy a 4870x2. looks like im sticking to my 8800gts until the new cards come out
Why? Most people forgo DX10 still, simply because it doesn't add much and causes a substantial FPS drop. At this rate, DX11 won't be worth it until 2012. :p

It is not a joke, it is just that nvidia do not have the capabilities to design a proper piece of hardware, they stick to what they know without pusing boundaries because they can't, that is why dev's have not adopted it, that and that there is always a big lag time between games making use (proper use) of new d3d versions and it is worse with dx10 being a departure from the others.

hence it's a joke since it's not being adopted or used at all.... *sigh* gonna stop trying with you guys.

bingo! :D:D someone read my thoughts.

dx10 = beta

I will just be optimistic and hope dx11 is what we hoped dx10 would be lol.

It's more like SOFTWARE not using DX10 features correctly vice HARDWARE not using it, no?

And when you say "hardware is nowhere near software" i hope you meant that Hardware is years ahead of software, not the other way around. :D

Agreed, people like Craptek and MS need to come up with crappy games and drivers in order to slow down and therefore justify buying new hardware all the time.

:D

Combination of both, to satisfy everyone. Software isn't optimized, hardware still can't emulate everything. Chicken or the egg. We still can't play games movie- theatre style (transformers!) so something's bottlenecking :D ATI has that whatever cinematic demo with the "true-to-life" robot and whatnot buttt... not like we're gonna see anything like that anytime. But yea, I'm gonna say .... dx9!!! Could care less about some uber transparent/realistic shadow when there are hundreds of explosions everywhere :D:D:D

this should also be great news for us as the new directx11 video cards will be at least twice as powerful according to the sites.

we might even see single video cards running simx , farcry 2, crysis at max resolutions and setting on directx10

Well that makes DX10.1 pretty much as useless as solar powered flashlight.

ARGH. I just bought into the DX10 stuff. Still, I like that some DX11 features will work on DX10 but really! DX10 performance sucks compared to DX9 on "mainstream" hardware in many cases. If you think the "Vista" FPS penalty sucks, try the "DX10" penalty, it's waaaaaay worse.

/rant

Not if you use it during daylight. :D

Well, that is what DX10 is...using a flash light during the daylight. Yes, you have more light...but you don't notice it and you are stuck carrying the flashlight around.

think the more appropriate answer is when MS makes DX10 and DX11 compatible with XP

it's not a smart decision for game developers to make their games available only to Vista users, when the greater majority of gamers are on XP still

Lol what's a flashlight?!?

Anyway yeah too bad DX10 is just crap in everything, the performance hit it takes does not justify the quality increase.

It seems as though the devs have the HARDEST time trying to implement, or jump from DX9 to DX10 than any other DX versions.

Well that's the point... They would never make DX10+ available on XP or under. Think about it, for those that still cling on to XP for whatever reasons are left out in the "technology" bin. They will be forcibly upgrading to Vista or Windows 7 as time goes by, it's not like you can hold on to XP forever.

Besides, even if DX10 is enabled in XP, those gamers that use XP will still bitch about how it runs like crap compared to DX9. So why bother even?

I use to work somewhere and we had a stand of those things. I didn't think it existed until I saw it with my own eyes. It really is the dumbest thing I've ever seen ever. It makes me want to puke. We ripped one open and hung it outside for a week and it could barely power the light in it.

Never going to happen. E V E R. Give it up.

MS never back ported DX9 to windows 9x, why would they back port DX10/11?

XP has several CORE security / programming issues.

I for one can't wait for windows 7. Basically its core is based off of Windows 2008 server and should have the usability of XP+Vista. For gaming, who knows how good/bad it will be at first

DX10 cannot be enabled under XP...the driver kernel is so different that it's a moot point.
Try googling "LDDM"

Good that I'm waiting and skipping Vista - Thogh Vista isn't so bad. :)

Well that makes DX10.1 pretty much as useless as solar powered fleshlight.

Fixed for increased solar accuracy.

Seriously though, this is good news as it will force me to keep my 8800GT for another 9 months or so.

I'm assuming the DX11 cards will hit before Windows 7 is released and that will mean the developers will hopefully have enough play time in the sandbox to be able to use some of the extra juice in DX11.

I hope that DX11 is developed more and that Microsoft keeps it around for 5 years+ and actually gives the developers time to use the platform, I think it will be as good as DX9 is today.
