This should be an interesting discussion. RushmoreDrive is a search engine created by Johnny C. Taylor and targets the black community. The site’s creators developed an algorithm that gives “black” links more weight. Read the whole article before posting. It’s got some interesting viewpoints.

"Someone said to me, 'We don't have a white Google, why do you need a black Google?'" Taylor said during a visit to the Times today. "And I said, 'Of course you do -- It's called Google.'" By way of example, he said that a black person searching for "whitney," for instance, probably wouldn't be looking for the Whitney Museum of Art, which comes up first on Google, or Whitney Bank, which comes up second. Instead, Taylor said, the searcher would likely be looking for Whitney Houston, who doesn't come up in Google until No. 4.

Where I'm from, blacks live in the same community as me. Where is this exclusive black community located?

HAHAHAH I think he just said most black people aren't refined enough to search for those things that come up first or second.

That's what it sounded like to me he was saying.


So sad that this guy can imply those things and no one gets upset. Besides, GOOGLE ranks their listings by popularity. Is it really so hard to type in Whitney Houston if that's what you want? Or is he implying that black people are lazy too?

I would cringe at the reaction if any of this was said by a Caucasian.
 
It's ok guys. It's a black person making semi-racist assertions. Thew only kind of racism that matters is statements made by white people.
 
The internet should be a source of information where it doesn't matter what color/race/background/etc you are. You get the same information in the same way as the next person. Making a "black" search engine like this contradicts the idea.

I go to the search engine, and type in several things to see what it returns. Finally I start to type in vulgar terms to see what that returns. I type in several things, but then type in "porn". The first result, number 1, is http://xxxchurch.com/.... The #1 Christian Porn site! rofl!!

Ahh, Christian Porn. Good stuff.
 
This is dividing bullshit. Google is the search engine for everyone, not whites. How he got that idea eludes me. Just typing in "whitney" into google search and getting Whitney Houston as #4 isn't white-centric. How you can expect to find anyone on the first result by typing in their first name is beyond me.

I'm WHITE and I find this whole concept incredibly racist.

The implication that all blacks live in their own little world and that they are all stereotypes is pretty disgusting.
 
Racism is amazing. Like said above, if a white person said that it'd be all over everything and CNN top story... A black person says it and it's "poor blacks".
 
why can't everyone just wrap their heads around the fact that we are all different, skin color doesn't mean a damn thing. It's just like where I live, they have 100% locally owned and operated businesses by Inuit people, but if you opened up a business and were proud of being 100% white owned and operated there would be a backlash, just like if Google was a search engine for only white people. Retarded.
 
This is one of the most racist ideas I have ever heard. He actually thinks that ALL black people are ONLY interested in the things that he considers "black-centric". That is ridiculously racist.

The truth is that google ranks results according to popularity. Apparently, Mr. Taylor is unhappy that his utterly racist view of the world isn't mirrored in those search results.

Hopefully he is investing a lot of his own money in this search engine. The sooner a fool like this is separated from his money and influence, the better.
 
I just can't help thinking that if a white person did something identical for white people, we'd all be talking about an article on how the KKK is secretly trying to infiltrate the internet. :D
 
It could be useful. For example you wouldn't need to type in "hiphop music", you would just type in "music". "Sports" would give you football and basketball only, no need to shift thru baseball articles and such. "quarterback" would return hits on Vince Young and Michael Vick. Stereotyping can finally be put to good use useful.

Coming from an AFRICAN american this is ridiculous. Thing is I was thinking of something similar, but in a different context early this morning or yesterday...I might of actually been dreaming...
 
The more I think about it the more I need to email Mr. Taylor with some "creative ideas" he can use for his search engine

Search: "Start of Business day"
Return: "12:00 PM"

Search: "Boss"
Return: "Fool who thinks he can tell me what to do/wear/etc"

Search: "Fruit"
Return: "Watermelon"

Search: "Favorite Recipe"
Return: "101 ways to cook chicken"

For anyone who hasn't picked up on it yet I am being ridiculously sarcastic.
 
One of their most popular searches right now is Star Wars! I'm surprised!

I did a couple searches for chicken & waffles to make things right. :D
 
Just like Stan Marsh, I don't get it. Neither do any of you other white people, and we never will. So worry about your own issues and let the black people do whatever they need to do to.

For the record this isn't a christian porn site. It's a christian ministry site for porn addicts. How is this relevant in a search for "porn" on a black web search site? I don't know, and neither will anyone else that's white.

Why does it bother people so much to be told they can't understand something? Sounds like white hubris to me - because you're white does that mean you're supposed to be able to understand everything?

I can't believe I led this off with a South Park reference... but there it is.

I like the idea that black people don't care about cultural things like museums, and don't have any need for bank information, they just want to hear music.

There's a difference between Obama preaching social responsibility (towards a race) and a guy trying to make a buck while exploiting his own race.

When I worked in the car business, the black salesmen had a tendency to stereotype black customers with the view of "poor credit and an easy way to make a buck if you can get them financed". The black customers usually felt at ease with the black salesman because they felt that someone of their own race would try and help them, not hurt them.

What Bill Cosby, Obama and a few other black leaders are trying to preach is, "stop exploiting your own race and blaming everyone else for your problems".

This guy is obviously trying to make money by demonizing the "evil white Google". It's an easy market to prey on because it makes sense to some people. It's similar to advertising in Spanish and promoting all-Spanish speaking neighborhoods in cities. It makes sense to some people but, it's actually hurting them.
 
I want every person to be in the same pot, with the same values, and same goals; regardless of color. For some reason people who cry "racism" want to live in a segregated world still and want none of that - and then complain about it,…why is that? Most people bring their own problems on themselves. This thread will absolutely not end well.

When I was reading the article, I got the impression he didn't think black people had the intelligence to refine there own searches. Like who the hell JUST searches for "Whitney"? It seems he thinks black people are too stupid too add "Houston" if they are fucking searching for "Whitney Houston"? I also agree this seems to be re-enforcing stereotypes and segregation, but I would not say racism.

But I really don't think Google is "white" enough to even be considered "white". When I query "David", David Lee Roth isn't even within the first two pages; what kinda BS is that!? I guess I'm too dumb to be more specific when I search. :(

You are a moron. Unless blacks have biologically different brains than whites, than YES, whites CAN understand anything blacks can - and vice versa. You think blacks magically have one communal brain - a la the Borg - and whites can't penetrate it's depths? You also imply that whites shouldn't talk about this because we're... white.
