Mac Prices Steady as PC Prices Fall

I saw that... It seems that lately they've been posting a lot of pro-Apple biased articles.

I especially love the comments. The backlash is hillarious! They completely chastize the author and I'd guarantee they've lost some loyal readers over that one. The author's ignorant response is "go ahead and stop visiting our website". I mean, c'mon! Even the hardcore fanboys admit that Apple products are at a premium price (with the same hardware) and Apple extends minimal discounts.

On a personal note, this is one of the few websites that I continue to visit (daily over the past 4+ years) because nobody here tries to shove Apple down my throat. Giz___ and Eng___'s endless Microsoft bashing (while sponsoring many Apple ads) has redirected my clicks.

It's because Apple has to make up for the minute sales of OS X and they're almost as greedy as MS (if not more IMO). They also know that some idiots with too much money will get one because of the glit of the logo when they really don't need it. Most people are sheep afterall, a lot of the Premium Mac users are of the extreme ilk.

i would nva buy apple stuff.
all my "i" things are free. and 1/2 of them are broken
and no b4 u say anything, they're no bootleg... ever heard of gifts?

Why does that bring up in my head an old saying "If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all?" ;)
See, the Mac Cult fails to realize this one simple truth: it works both ways.

I don't see Microsoft doing shit like this:

THAT is why I dislike Apple so much. Perfectly fine for them to partake in bashing of other companies, but when it happens to them: "We're the little guy! Big bad Microsoft is the one to get after!"

No your paying for an OS
So are the majority of Dells/HPs... They've all got you paying for an OS- his point still stands.

Read the fucking post again. He was saying the premium paid over the competition was logo etc. i disagreed and said your paying extra for the operating system.

My point still stands, read the full post next time.

If I remember correctly, that video was more directed at the rumor that Microsoft was developing a Zune phone/direct iPhone competitor. I think they were more making fun of themselves there. ...kind of a response to Apple's criticism of Windows being too complicated and a sucky user interface.

Yeah that was an official video straight out of redmond...
Oh wait no its not.
TY.

Hard to tell if you were kidding or not (still have no idea).
If you are saying you are paying for the OS, as that explains away the extra cost... It's BS and why I responded like that. You could buy freaking server licenses for what those would cost you.
If you were making fun, don't let me get in the way ;)

Yes and no. Thats exactly my point, im saying that steve jobs thinks his OS is worth the difference. Really it makes more sense to me anyway to say thats the difference instead of the way the plastic is shaped on thier notebooks.

Gotta say, Apple sells some pretty sexy Asus laptops. And, as we all know, the white glossy plastic mines of Deneb are pretty much tapped out, so that explains the cost differential.

Ok, one guy at work uses a Mac, and he was telling me that even though it uses an Intel proc now, it handles the FSB differently. Something about the Mac MOBO architecture is different from that of a standard Intel based PC.

Is there any legitimacy to this or is he blowing smoke out his ass?

He's probably alluding (badly) to the replacement of a traditional BIOS with EFI.

Other than that, the differences between your machine and a Mac are thus:

1: Visual aesthetic of the product (which I, personally, find "meh")
2: Price per-spec
3: YOU don't get to live your life within the "safety" of Steve Jobs' Reality Distortion Field. All it'll cost you is an occasional knob-slobbing, lots of snobbery.

I don't see why people are still arguing about the basic PC vs Mac issue. Its just marketing. Get over it. You don't hate your neighbor who drives a BMW while you can get by perfectly well on your Camry right? Same thing. As alluded to above, some people don't mind paying extra for the marketing and that oh-so-pretty apple.

Its the same thing in all consumer oriented industries. Cars, clothes, whatever. Better marketing == same product at higher prices.

Idk lol. I like mac and pc. But their MBP is top notch in battery life. My similar HP laptop gets 3.5hrs on a 12cell battery and the damn macbok get 4.5hrs on their standard battery. Not to mention its slimmer and lighter. I have both and I dont mind. Though I only use mac for school.

Since there's no edit button I would also like to point out that the MBP's specs are damn hard to match for the price. Even after you match it you arent gona get what you get from the MBP. Took me a long time and research to get me to buy a 2.5k laptop lol. All in all their prices arent ridiculous like some think. But their upgrades certainly are.

WOW, I went thru the comments section and that "tuannguyen" does fight for his life
TOM's readers are too brutal and they raped the author(tuannguyen) for over some Mac article :p

this is a deep insight into the intelligence and psyche of the mac user (ie... not much)

Correlate it to performance/size and your argument has some weakness. My watch runs for 5 years on a single battery and my laptop only lasts 3.5 hours. I think you need to compare apples to apples on that one...which you really aren't doing.

I'm sorry, but macs and PC hardware wise are pretty much the exact same thing. No amount of fairy dust from jobs will change that. My guess is you took equivalent hardware between a PC and a mac...the battery would die at the same time.

Oh wait no its not.

You said specifically "I don't see Microsoft doing shit like this" - Apple joked that redmond was going to copy all the features on apple's OS, Microsoft joked about all the features the iPhone had. I didn't say it was a video straight outta redmond, but thanks anyways. I agree they went overboard at the conference with the whole "photocopier" thing but, IMO, Vista seems a hell of a lot like OSX.

Exactly. Screw PC vs. Apple, I want to see Cheerio cereal fanboys go up against that crappy Roundy's O brand cereal! :D :D

I bought 4 Macs in a 2 month span of time, all 4 were returned for being defective, kernel panics (with their OWN software in the OS, mind you, not any of the 3rd party stuff I had installed - their own damned DVD player wouldn't play retail pressed DVDs nor would the optical drive - in all 4 - work worth a damn).

"It just works..." is the biggest crock of shit slogan I've ever heard of in my life. I helped get the OSx86 Project started back in the summer of 2005 (I'm the guy that released the world's first working generic installation DVD for OSx86, actually) and all I can say is I can get a more stable and faster performing OS on a non-Apple labeled machine than "real" Macs, go figure.

Function over form... that's for me. I could care less what the damned machine looks like. If it doesn't work it's just a fuckin' piece of garbage like any Picasso hanging on a wall. Does nothing, serves no purpose, but it sure demands a premium price, don't it?

Lol, what's funny is all the hypocrits in this thread here who pay premium prices for RAM, mobo's, $600 video cards, pretty cases, $20 case fans, $60 heatsinks... yet the Apple fans are the ones who are sucked into marketing and hype.... lmao

Man this place is one huge [H]ard circle jerk.

Agreed and I am not a Mac fan. Who cares do whatever works for you.

Mac user pay out the nose for the i-peen
[H]ard users pay out the nose the e-peen

Those in glass houses....

I have 3 macs, stable as hell. The company I work for is partners with Apple, I am the unix sysadmin so the macs fall into that category and I manage 22 of them. No issues.

I bet the mac you got was an iMac eh? Those buggers are terrible now. The best way to get one is a refurbished one from Apples website. Not only is it cheaper, but its gone through way more testing to be resold then the factory fresh models.

Oh, and as an OSx86 side note: Like its hard to repackage a dvd. There are and were guides for modifying osx install dvds long before that. You waving that around will get you 0 applause. If you had said you wrote the EFI loader they used I would be impressed - but you didn't.

I feel like I'm in a glass house, I love both my PC and Mac. I use my PC and primarily my gaming machine and data storage, and my Macbook as my around-the-house web browsing and all of my photo editing.

So I have ie-peen?

But I use Firefox..........

I didnt say it someone else did...

If you cant tell the difference between an official marketing tactic (Which BTW bashing windows is apples ONLY tactic as of late) and a joke than i dont know what to tell you...

Isn't that for gaming? I'm also pretty damn sure [H] users usually research for best price/performance ratio on shit that expensive.

You mean premium prices for premium components that give premium performance and cooling? Who would have thought?

Yeah, just like Mac owners who pay premium price, for a premium OS, and a premium experience.

Who'd have thought?

Fixt. You're comparing objective hardware performance to a subjective OS and 'experience.' No thanks, apples and oranges my friend... no pun intended :p

It's irrelevant what Mac it was (actually it was 2 20" iMacs and 1 MacbookPro and 1 black Macbook so...), the fact that Apple proclaims "It just works" is full of shit. And recommending refurbs... that's idiotic. Imagine only buying a used BMW because the new one that just rolled off the assembly line just ain't quite up to speed yet... it's ridiculous.
