Ok so we don't keep invading other threads.....

So how long have you had that 260? Is that your recent spike?

I might be able to hold you off.... maybe.... must try harder!!!!!

Well, actually I don't have the GTX260 yet. That should arrive next Tusday. I have been getting some help lately. I helped put together a nice Asus Rampage Q9450 setup for my father in law a little while ago, and after breaking it in with some folding he has very graciously been folding on it and a 9800GTX for HighYield and team 33. My next spike will be next week. I haven't seen any folding numbers for 260's yet but I would hope it should do 6-7k ppd with a healthy overclock since we have heard reports in this forum about 280's pulling in 8400 ppd.

I don't think it will be hardware that slows me down but the $$ the electric company is charging. In New Jersey we are paying $0.14-0.19 /kwh. What's it like in where you live?

not to take your thread of course at all, but i'd expect more than 6-7k ppd out of a 260, i'm getting around 6k ppd on my 9800gtx (770 core, 2005 shader)

OH BOY!!!!!

Okay.... see this is so cool on so many levels.....

First, it gives me an excuse to drink more beer and eat a couple extra tamales, and second.... and this is a biggie...... if HighYield passes Kendrak.... he's gonna have to join the club!!!!!!

Oh man..... I don't think I'm going to be able to handle all the excitement:)

Fold On guys!!!!

You don't have the 260 yet......

The closest Microcenter is almost a 3 hour drive...... Arrrg! What does BB have?

You are going to make me do things that I don't want to.......

/stares at Credit Cards

/sigh

:D Wow that is some serious production. Do you have any extra cooling on the 9800GTX or is that just the stock cooler?

Alright digital_exhaust, I'll do my best to increase club membership. Looks like the gap is down to 235k now....Somehow I think this battle will go for quite a while.

I just got the GTX 260 on my hands my afternoon but I'm too tired and too sick of working in my condo to bother installing (I know, I'm not [H]ard :().Tomorrow, I'll do this however :)

Xilikon you deserve a break. You just moved a pile of boxens among other things. Start sipping a nice tall beer and think about how far you are going to OC that 260 and then report back tomorrow, your with your findings :)

Actually, I decided to replace the 8800GT with the GTX 260 on my HTPC but shit hit the fan with Vista not rebooting on crcfile.sys due to a update :( I'm currently burning a restore CD because Windows Home Server had a full backup (thank god) so after a short while, it should be back up and running fine. I'll put the 8800GT on another box in the meanwhile.

Yeah, for as many SP's as the 280 has (almost double my 8800GTS which pulls 54-5500) I would think 78-8500 for sure. Looking at this list 65-7700 seems to be the range. I'm not sure what the stock clocks are so maybe they just need some TLC..

BTW tkam I'm keeping my

on ya.... you Mowed my ass but good today. :D

That's a good point, just checking the specs of the standard 280 and the core clock is 602 and the shader is only 1296.

Finally kicked my boxen and it booted fine (a bios reset is what the doctor prescribed to fix the problem). Right now, I'm updating Vista while it's down (so it doesn't update itself in the middle of folding) and installing the 177.35 driver back. I'll post some numbers a little later or tomorrow morning.

Ok, the EVGA GTX 260 Superclocked (is doing about 5110 ppd on a 5206 WU (the ones which cut the points a lot), which is not bad. I expect that on a good unit, it should do about 6500 ppd at stock.

However, the HTPC boxen is having serious issues ebcause it crashed and rebooted twice, including one at the time of writing :( I will debug it to find out what is the cause (not sure if the PSU is starting to crap out, being a 2 years old Seasonic S12-500 or the motherboard is throwing a hissy fit since day one with bios setup...).

I still have some stuff to move around and this wont be stable for a bit (have a finiky 8800gt right now that probably needs RMA-ed)

But I still have another 8800gt coming....

Ohhh yes.... you went and did it.

Let's see 26.3k+4.5k on the way should give you ~31kppd.

At the moment I have 19k here with 6.5k stuck between Dallas and Philadelphia. That's only 25.5 k, but I still have the wild card external production which can give anywhere from 0-7kppd. That would still let me close at a glacial pace if I was very lucky -which I am not. ;)

Yesterday I converted over my Ubuntu SMP folder to a Vista box. I had a big surprise when I realized the mother board only had one graphics card slot ....I was too frugal for my own good. I have two graphics card slots left to fill on other boards. They'll need to get some loving with new hardware if I'm going to close the gap.

Next time I won't use the war drums until I actually have the hardware on hand :)

That's some big ppd :p

I'll be ramping up again tomorrow if UPS can get the new card delivered on time. Who is going to be the first one to 30k? ;)

I guess you are the first to 30k.

My 260 should be here Tuesday.

I'm about to hit the button on one of those 8800GT 256's for a rig......

I will not go quietly into the night!

I ordered a kill a watt meter on Friday. Need to search the house for what is using the most electricity (other than the boxens). Then after the inefficient appliance(s) has been removed---replace with more boxens or gpus.

Is it true you were taking a 9800GTX out of commission?

I have 30 days from the 12th to return. The thing was $275. I can get 3 of the cheep 8800GT for that. I have a 260 coming for my main box, and there is not a system in the house that needs a faster GPU than a 8600, so I'm pushing it even there.

Congrats on your move to the top 100. I was looking for you and realized you were no longer hanging out with us page 2 guys. It's a great accomplishment.

I just got the 260, a day early at that

It's folding away, Looks like I can get more than 6k out of the thing. The 9800GTX is going back after Vaca, so it will be folding for about a week more. I hope I can find a deal on a few 8800GT's for I'll have something waiting to replace the 9800GTX.:D

This is going to be a long long fight :p (unless you whip out an ace I don't know about.)

With the 260 you'll start pulling away from me again (at least as long as you have that 9800GTX). I'd be interested in hearing what kind of production you get out of it. I have mine at 630 core/1404 shaders/999 memory and I'm pulling in 6100-6500 ppd depending on the WU. The shaders on mine don't seem to want to go much past ~1500 without crapping out.
This is definitely going to be a long battle.

I have mine up just about the same specs, (shaders a bit higher) and I'm pulling 6400 on a 5217, I'll let ya know how much higher I can get it

Well with you on my doorstep I'd figure I should bring this thread back to life.

That vacation did me in :(

I have my farm pushing ~30k now. However you are pushing well north of that. The way I see it Unless I can get a GPU installed by early next week I'm toast.

Edit: I'm staring hard at this: 8800GS
I like the GS better. Not as much ppd, but much quieter and they don't have that super high pitched soft "folding" whine. I love the 2x 8800GS I just got this weekend.

I'm giving her all she's got captain...but she just won't hold together. My farm is so hot at the moment I am starting to get EUEs on all of my machines which have been stable (for the past 2900 WUs). I'm going to back off my OCs this morning. I got an extra 8800GT just before you went on vacation. It is great for putting out points but I never saw a card put more heat into the case (especially with 2 in there now). If I was to do it over again I would get the dual slot card to make sure all the heat gets pushed out.

I'll bring all the heat I can, but that might be from my Q6600 catching on fire...

Wait a minute. Maybe it's not that hot after all. I did install some of these new 6.22beta2 Windoz SMP clients. Argh. If they still EUE with the lower clock speed I'll kick the new SMP off my systems.

I've got that card. Nice card and a decent deal plus if you decide you want more you can Step it Up. It clocks well and runs fairly cool.

Yup, yup, yup, I've got one in the UPS system right now (paid for the extra fast deal, but ordered it on a Sat :()

I know I shoulda' done like Xilikon and many others recommended and got the GT with 512 MB's RAM, but what can I say, I'm a member in good standing of the "el cheapo" group (I know we's only talkin' $20 or $30 bucks more, but it's the principle that matters:rolleyes:

I hope it runs as cool as I've read and only looses maybe 500 pernts compared to the GT /w 512 MB's RAM :(

I think you'll be happy with it. It's not really the extra ram on the GT that makes the difference but the extra 16 shaders. If you can get the shaders to clock in the 1800+ range you'll pull a solid 38-4200ppd out of it. Mine will run reliably @ 1866 on the shaders but as you know.. with all things silicon YMMV.;)

Nothing wrong with being "el cheapo". The more you save the more you can afford later right? This card is the bang for the buck king currently IMO.

Ahh.., showin' my less than abundant knowledge of GPU's, what do you think the 8800 GT w/ 512 MB's RAM would usually get for PPD (stock city everything) ? I've got the graph thing, but I was wondering about the "in the wild" PPD. There's also the fact I trust the info I get from the members of the mighty [H]orde and I'm not exactly a "trusting sole". :D

Per chance I was bein' a little optimistic (in other words full of shite) about only loosing 500 pernts to the GT ?

Edit: Man, talkin' about a "lame" question  Please have patients ;) I know I shoulda' said something about WU's, etc. (I read where there are newer, better GPU WU's out there) :( I know I shoulda' done the "search" deal on this forum, d'oh  So if anyone wants to just ignore this post it's fine with me, sometimes I act like a complete "dumba$$" :p

FOLD ON!

Numbers I've seen put the GT pretty solidly in the 45-4800ppd range stock.

Mine was ~4300 PPD stock, now bouncing between 4800-5800 depending on WU (5529 right now on a 5504) and whether I'm "using" the computer. Shaders are currently @ 1850.

OK..... the access point came in and it works. I have a signal to the neighbors!

One boxen back and folding. This brings me back up to 31k ppd.

I know I'm not going to get this other rig up in time before yo mow me over..... but my hope is that I can get a new box with 2 more 8800GT up and running, I can get ya back.

I'm not done yet!

Edit: pic so you don't think I'm j/k :p

:eek::eek: We are going to be very close in ppd now especially when you get your new boxen going. I think I need a file server to back up all the wedding photos :) like you did. The wife will be out of town the next couple of days....I could just build one and surprise her with it.

Congrats to HighYield!

You passed me. Don't think however that the war is over. I have my not so secret weapon that is under construction.

There is a strong chance that I will be ordering a 9800GX2 in the next day or so (good deals willing)

My hat is off to you. But I'm going to try and snatch my spot back :D

As I promised.

I Think you have about a week. (unless you go shopping)

Lets see what ya got :D
