Yea, I was wondering about this ?It is more than just clock speed that is different.
Yea, I was wondering about this ?
Is the first 4870 being released with DDR4 and won't be a big jump in performace from the 4850 ?
Is it true that latter a 4870 with DDR5 will be released that will be a much bigger jump in performance over the 4850 ???
Is this how the differant models of the ATI 4800 series of cards are supposed to be released ?
Will the 4870X2 be DDR5 and where does it fall in the release order ?
There will be a 1GB GDDR5 version and a 512MB GDDR3 version. I don't know about 512MB GDDR5 or 1GB GDDR3 versions, but we'll see. The 4850 will also come in a 1GB GDDR3 flavor.I've read so much speculation about the 4870 I'm dizzy.
I'm pretty sure there will be a 512MB DDR3 version and a 1GB DDR5 version.....I cannot for the life of me recall where I saw that though.....I've been under the assumption that the real deal in the 4870 is a higher clock and 1GB memory.
These are available after July 8 if I'm recalling correctly.
I think there will be an X2 version but a date has not been mentioned.
I'm waiting until Wednesday to see what's what with the 4870.
If it runs as well as the speculation has it.......I'm in for 2.
Stuck between ATi for performance and EVGA for step-up.
Stepping up from the "hold me over until GT200 arrives" and all to cheap so it shows 9800Gx2 to "the real deal" GTX280 for like nothing (12) mainly because it is better for me and to protect the investment i made ontop of the better secondhandvalue than the stupid Gx2-shit i atm. hate along with all multigpu X2/Gx2-way and perticular Gx2 with all it flaws of struttering to the left and to the right on top of soundissues that cost me 126 for a X-fi Titanium PCI-e to "fix" and the all to low memoryamount that is not close to be enought for 24" gaming. Also i am one of those that do perfer 1 physical GPU that do 100% over 2 physical "even if they pretend to be 1 but failing doing so" all days of the week.
However IF ATI can do wonder with 4870CF/4870X2 and those are significant faster/better AND has fixed the multigpu issues that is annoying and that i now pay 12 to get rid of i will collect the better value of the 280 and go down the X48/X58 route and 4870CF or even 4870X2CF.
If i am then doing what i say i don´t like at all is just because i forgotten all of the multigpu-issues i had with the Gx2.
However GTX280 SLI is not out of the path completely if the issues i have with Gx2 are just Gx2-issues or they are not as big in "real Sli" with powerful cards as in "beginners Sli" with more mainstream cards and therefore not notisable the same way. But that requier Nvidia to have a good LGA1366 board to as nehalem is the only thing i am sure of will be the major upgrade during 2009 or even late 2008 as i already made one of the foundation for that with DDR3 upgrade.
Good god that hurt to read.[/QUOTE]
That not easy to wrote either even if it was a sloppywriting, but when i am pissed of Gx2-problems thats what happens if i find a cheap way out of the missery.
Shortversion: Gx2 suxs and make me skeptic to multigpu until i forget about it downsides.;)

Always??????Where's the option for "waiting for 8800GTX price to drop"?
Last-gen's "top dog" is always faster & cheaper than the current gen's "midrange."
pretty sure i will need 2 of those to run my 2 1920x1200 screens and one 1920x1080 screenI am pretty sure Ill go with a 4870 X2, but First I will purchase a 24' widescreen...
NVIDIA is not making boards for Nehalem as things are:

Yeah and how long til Nehalem hits the streets (desktop)? 6 or more months is a long time. I bet Nvidia makes Nehalem boards...
