Welp, like I stated in the "borg countdown" thread of this great forum I tried the NotFred diskless folding CD and wow  was it easy to setup and monitor. The biggest reason everything went so smooth was because I read the instructions in the folding thread by EvilAlchemist. (many thanks Evil) :D

Now onto the topic of this thread (don't want the "Topic Police" after me :p) I set up the diskless, monitorless, keyboardless, mouseless and almost everything else less folder out of some spare parts I had in my closet. I had everything but a case so I was using it bare (caseless). The componets are a E6420 cpu, a TT Big Typhoon, a PM900 Micro 775 mobo, one 512 MB stick of Super Talent PC6400 RAM, a POWER something 500W PSU and some 80 mm fans I had laying around :)

To make a long story short I was doing the trash detail and someone put an old Dell "OptiPlex GX1" desktop boxen beside the dumpster. Being the ever thrifty person I am, having a caseless folder foldin' away (mentioned above) and needing a case I snagged it. After removing the innards (mobo, floppy, no HD, 100w PSU, etc) I proceeded to get friendly again with my case mod tools (drill, nibler, rotary tool, hole saws, tin snips, etc) and start modifying it so hopefully it wouldn't look uglier than homemade soap. :p

It's still a work in progress so far (foldin' away bare though) and I'll post some pics when I get some 120mm Yate Loons from PTS so y'all can laugh your butts off or use the pics to get rid of any rats you might have. I ain't quite figured out how to mount the 120's yet, but you know us "anal about the temps" people, so I feel I need 120 mm fans. :)

Hey, this post can be about a "bastard" case for a diskless folder can't it? It kinda' reminds me of what they called the HD Sportser (a "bastard motorcycle") when I was riddin' many moons ago )

Lol, GX1 specs is a PII-350, old shit. I had a lot at work that I got rid recently. The case is nice tho but a bit too thin to afford your heatsink so I'm curious to see what you did to fit it :)

Yeah Xilikon I kinda' liked the look of the case, it was pretty clean and unmarked until I got a hold of it. (kinda' retro )

Being the "temp anal" type person I am I went and "hole sawed" a hole and then cut away enough for the TT BT to poke thru. I'll probably do something like that if I ever figure out where the 120 mm fans would be best suited or maybe I'll just stick with the 80 mm fans (probably be smarter) because I've got a few of them already. I know this is going to be a "one of a kind" case and I can always hide it if it looks too bad ;). I just don't want to get too carried away and completely "butcher" the case.:D

You are "correcto moondo" about the case bein' too thin for the BT, thats why it sticks out about 1/2". (I ain't gots no shame, I just want positive results) :p

Nice :) Don't forget the mandatory pics or the case modding gods will throw a hiss at you :p

Yeah, a lot of this thread should probably be in the "case modding" section, but I wanted to emphasize how easy it was to set up a diskless folder and I'd never be freakin' around with it if I didn't just set up this boxen. :D

Definitely gonna need some CCFL to show off the custom mods. Maybe a nice big H dremeled into the side for a window with some red cellophane backing....

Now we're talking Ghetto! :D

That would be sweet, But have it a big [H].

Need pics. Sounds pretty ghetto so far.

Getto is kind of an understatement. If and when I'm satified with this "diskless" and "less everything else" boxen" It's working to it's hardwares maximum performance. (overclockin' comin' up next :D

Within reason I really don't "give a rats behind" (PC :p) what it finally looks like as long as it folds like a "mad rabbit". (maximum performance for the hardware)

You know the old sayin' "Tweak it to make it run better" (or something like that), ain't a damn thing in that sayin' about looks, besides they always told me "looks were in the eye of the beholder" and "ugly people needed lovin' too" ( ugly boxen need foldin' also)

Later fellow team members, just remember when I post my "getto boxen" pictures I'm not responsible if your monitor craps out on you or if you break out in "I can't believe anything that ugly actually works rash"

Edit: I gots my E6420 all the way up to 2.4 GHz (8x300 FSB , stock vcore). The frame times were about 21 mins at stock 2.13 GHz (ZZZ ) and I got a slight improvement in frame times at a big OC' of 2.4 GHz (8x300 FSB , stock vcore) of 15 mins a frame (woot ).

OBTW: All these exciting stats (frame times) are brought to you by FAHmon v2.3.2b. I'm gratefull to EvilAlchemist for his "How to get diskless folding to work" post (or something like that) explaining how to use FAHmon for "diskless" folding (what folder to monitor, not so easy for us semi literate computer enthusiasts)
