Alright I am selling my Zune on ebay. It just has horrible software. I can't stand it. I love MP3 Players but can't seem to find the perfect one. The Ipod was my favorite one I had so for.

So here is what I want in an MP3 player.

Flash or HDD Based
40 GB or more space (Probably means I would need a HDD based one right?)
USB 2.0
Around $100 - $150 or lower.
Video is not a big deal for me.
Rechargeable Battery.
Not a Zune

It doesn't exist. The largest player you will get (on sale even) for $150 is a 16 gig. You need to break the 200 mark by a bit before you will see anything in the +40 gig range.

Even at 16 gig your options are pretty limited. You might want to consider an 8 gig player if you only want to spend $150. There are a lot of options at that price.

In the 8 gig range I would suggest the COWON iaudio 7.

iRiver iHP-140 FTW! I have the 20 gig version. It can do anything including direct mp3 encoding on the fly from an analog or optical source, run rockbox and has arguably some of the best sound you will ever hear from an mp3 player. The only problem is, they haven't made them in 2 or 3 years so you will need to look on fleabay or craig's list for one. However, if you do find one, it should be right in your price range since it will be used. They were pricey when they were sold new. I paid $350 for my 20 gig model in 04.

For a new mp3 player, the Cowons are highly regarded but they are somewhat pricey.

If you can spend a little more, go with a 80GB zune.

dont mind him, he must have missed the "Not a Zune" part.

but seriously, i would just get an ipod nano or the classic.
look, the thing will break down or higher capacity ones will come out. so for now, get the most bang for buck and upgrade again in 3 years. its an mp3 player, treat it like a PC, not a watch.

go here for cool skins.

CobyPMP7040 40GB Portable Media and MP3 Player and Video Recorder with 7" Screen. It is a good one, it has all the specifications you needed(also it isn't a zune player). But what is worrying is the price, $200.You have to go for it, it is the best of the lot!

Whats so wrong with the Zune software?

I like my Zune software better than iTunes. Granted, neither are fantastic, but I only use it to transfer files anyway.

If you want 40+ gigs, then flash isn't a reasonable option. Really, I would say that the best options are a zune or an ipod classic and even then you probably have to go for a refurb in that price range. IMO if you already have a zune, you're better off just keeping it. I guess if you liked the ipod, just get another.

Ditto. I just don't like iTunes. The Zune software has gotten quite a bit better, with the most recent update, but there's still plenty of work to be done. In it's current form though, I'll take it over iTunes any day.

I'm not sure how Creative's software is now, but when my wife had a Zen the software/organizer was pretty crappy. We just resorted to dragging and dropping the music into the player from Windows Explorer/My Computer.

ive actually been considering selling my 30gb ipod...hit me up if youre interested.

its is really good shape, just had the battery replaced by apple, has about 6 months left on a best buy warranty, and i have a nice FM transmitter dock for the car if youre interested in that too.
