Not sure if this has been posted but Steam has new Clear Sky HD Tech demo to view. About to watch it.

I saw it. Well worth watching....some of the stuff they are bringing to the game looks pretty incredible IMO.

Get out of here stalker.

When it comes out, I know I'll be upgrading my graphics card :)

I will be preordering this through steam as soon as I can. Looks sweet.

oh wow, so you can shoot a spinning fan to make it spin the other direction! the evolution of gaming! :p

Man, the smoke, that's what got me. The smoke looks a bit 3d-ish compared to everything else ;P.

That is what the video was displaying, not being able to shoot a fan. (I'm not sure if the other guy was joking or not)

I really wasn't /that/ impressed with the steam/smoke. It doesn't behave like the real stuff. I guess I thought that with all the fluid dynamics advances that've been made we'd have smoke that wasn't basically made out of a bunch of floating sprites... Asking too much, it seems.

I liked it. Pretty damn impressive (although I'm pretty easily pleased I guess)

Seemed quite realistic to me, when he shot the fan the other way it stopped pouring out so quickly, which I thought was quite neat.

Unfortuately while the effects look nice, the bad frame rate mixed with the lack of AA made my eyes almost bleed, it's painful to see next gen tech without AA.

Cheers. Every site I try and dowload the HD thing from fucks my firefox up right nice.

I don't mean to thread crap..but...isn't this what happened when the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R came out? Everyone saying how badass it was going to be, then the gameplay (argueably) sucked.

Yes, it had nice graphics. Yes, so does this sequel. But pre-ordering? No thanks, I made that mistake on the first one.

I'll wait for some reviews before I make any decisions.

As far as I'm concerned, the gameplay on the original rocked my socks, son. Maybe I just like being challenged, or don't have ADHD or something. Regardless, I'm playing it again and enjoying it no less. You're probably getting the 'style over substance' stuff confused with Crysis.

STALKER is good but its certainly not a game I would put on a pedestal. Lackluster graphics, release stability issues, innaccurate firearms, missleading ballistics, missing features at release. All that wouldn't be so foul if the game wasn't in developement for as long as it was. The game also has silly voice acting but I won't blame them for that since they are a new developement team, from Europe. At least Crysis' main problems weren't show stopping.

No, it isn't made of sprites, "basically" or otherwise. There's a reason why it said "volumetric smoke" in the corner.

I don't care how they made it. It doesn't look like real smoke and is clearly made of 'units'.

I thought it was a amazing game never had any issues with it at all. Most of the people who said it sucked either couldn't run it properly under there system or didn't even bother to give it a chance at all.

I dug the first one and I'll dig this one. The fact that it's a PC exclusive alone makes me like it. Let's me know designers ain't selling out and staying with the original gaming platform!

That was DX10, it had AA (or atleast the game will), I couldn't see any studders in the rendering.

If by "units," you mean polygons, then yes.

I'm not saying it's the best smoke ever, but it is pretty impressive when compared to other games IMO.

The outdoor areas all had frame rate issues, massive frame rate issues, especially noticeable at the start (I had pre-loaded the HD video on steam, so it's not my PC)

Everything is made of "units", it's a case of how large they are and how many you have, chances are that settings for this are easy to change in the final game, it's pretty basic to alter the number of particles an emitter uses and the frequency at which it emits them, no doubt be in the graphics settings or at the very least in a cfg/ini file you can tweak. Performance drop off will be large though.

Despite the crappy res of the shacknews video, I was thoroughly impressed by the volumetric smoke they were showing (what little was there). It almost has the characteristics of fluid dynamics. I bet you will be able to make smoke rings.

Steam has am HD video of the tech demo for download, that being said looks like AA was off in those videos as all edges were really jaggy. I liked the smoke effect, and wet surfaces, lightning looked improved as well, but the fire effect didn't seem all that impressive (looked like a field anomaly with a light inside) ... still can't wait for this.

I'm currently playing through STALKER again (new monitor much higher res). I just sided with freedom this time :D and destroyed the duty guys at the farmstead.

yah freedom guys rule. We"ll see what the new installment will bring. maybe less bugs.

Now, will the game end up like Crysis or bugged like the first one?
That's what I'm afraid of, the first one still has it's issue where it do it freeze every so often even on beefy machines and with no new innovated video card out and probably won't be when it comes out, will be able to run it at all with it looking pretty??

I just hope it will run well, I am playing stalker again right now and many of the graphic things they showed I wish were already there (like the water on surfaces)

I already have 8800gtx and the only upgrade is a second one for which I just don't see the added value of at this point.

I hope they do good job, Stalker is an amazing game

@Draxx, I am at the same point again, I am just tryiong to side with both forces.

Ya I always have a few saves at the point right before choosing freedom or duty. As to your game freezing every so often, have you tried the noprefetch command? apparently that can help with stuttering game play.
