Q6600 idle temps.

check out my thread: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1291028

we have the same cpu and motherboard. i was able to run 3.2 GHz with 1.4 V set in the bios and increasing the mcp/sb to 1.525 V. you may be able to bring down the voltage some to shed off a few degrees. but remember each system is unique, so it might not run exactly how i have mine setup. those idle temps are a little on the high side for my tastes. do you have G0 core stepping or B3? from what i've read, the G0 can withstand a little more heat than the B3. if you haven't already, try turning up the fans a little to bring down your idle temps. more importantly, stress test with prime95, check for stability and load temps, keep an eye out for load temps!

Is that B3? Seems like a lot of volts for 3.2Ghz. Is it set to auto voltage? Anyway, what's most important is your load temps when running something like prime 95. With the B3 a good rule of thumb is to stay below 60C load, 70C for the G0.

I have my q6600 at 3.2 . Last night my idle temps where between 24c-32c. I also have the c1e enabled on my board.

its a G0, my load temps stay about 65 max. It isn't going to hurt the longevity of my Q6600 is it? right now running avast and a bunch of other stuff its at about 51-48-46-49c

Definitely keep it under 65-60 Celcius for optimal life (I replace CPUs every 2 years, so as long as they last that long, I'm good).

I also have mine to 3.2GHz at stock vcore, runs anywhere from 35-38 idle and up to 45-48 under load. I find it to be just right for just using the stock cooler.

Edit: Wow I'm a lurker, sheesh.

Wow, how did you get to 3.2 on stock vcore with stock cooler? I have aftermarket cooler and a 1.5vcore for my 3.2 :(

My coworker has the same problem. His GO takes 1.5V to get stable at 3.2ghz. Some ppl just get lucky and get good chips.

Have you tried getting the voltage lower?

I have a B3 Q6600 and I run 3.2GHz @ 1.34v 24/7.

My idle temps at 23C Ambient hover around 39C/40C.

Apparently I had my front intake fan backwards making it an exhaust. I turned it around and my idle temps are about 39-40c now. However when I'm running Windows media player, firefox with an assload of tabs, and several other programs my temps hover around 44-50c. Is this normal?

27-27-25-25, @ 3.0, stock vcore and stock HSF. Its about 70F ambient in the house.

I've installed a number of the stock intel core 2 HSFs, and they are indeed a pain in the ass. This time around I took extra care to get it on snug as hell, with as little "sliding" of the HSF as possible.

I honestly believe that proper application of the HSF is just as if not more important than the actual model.

Guessing I got a pretty rad chip when I placed my order. All I know is I can run it at 3.4 rock solid, but since I haven't upgraded my heatsink/fan I keep it at 3.2 so I can keep the stock vcore happening.
