ok...i've been working with my ps3 for a while now. read forums, but have not been able to find/solve my issue. here's what's going on.

when i turn on my ps3, it can find my pc with out issue. but it always comes up with a dnla error in the upper right corner. i don't know if it is actually causing any issues or not.

when i do try to stream my music, it starts with only about 20-40 song available. while it's playing, is pulls in more. however, the only songs it'll play on shuffle is the first 20-40 songs. i can manually skip past the initial songs, then i picks up the rest up to that point in it's scanning. also, it takes a good 10-20 seconds for it to skip a song and move on to the next. i have temporarily moved much of my music to the HDD, and have not had any issues there. i would like to not have all that music on the drive, but if i have to i will.

i'm not sure if it has to do with the size of the collection, but i wouldn't think so. i have about 4000 songs i'm trying to play.

also, it will typically only pick up about 2500 songs in the end, error with the dnla error, and then stop scanning. i have tried using wmp11 and tversity. both have the same issues.

i am at work today, so i will try to answer any questions the best i can about settings and stuff, but with out being in front of the machine, it may be a little difficult.

basically wondering if anyone else has had these same issues or if anyone knows how to solve it.

oh...the pc it is streaming from is a wireless n. don't know if that makes a difference.

It is possible to hook up the ps3 wired insisted of wireless just for testing.

This would at least let you know if it is the wireless connection.

unfortunately, i can't do that. the router is in a completely different room. the pc and ps3 are in the same room, but there is no way to connect them. the issue is more that there isn't a way to hook the ps3 up to a monitor/tv anywhere else other than where it is.

I have mine connected wired, but it has the same issue. I have tried TVersity, Nero MediaHome, and WMP11. Might be the fact that I have my media streaming server networked to every shared drive that it uses, but it still takes a while for most media to show up in the list... and start playing. Once I have a solution I am sure I would post it here. TVersity seems to be the best about this so far.

would it maybe have something to do with how it streams it in? like it might have a hard time decoding the music? i'm not exactly sure how the streaming works. if it is decoded by the pc is is coming from, or the ps3.

try this program. Twonky Media. You can try the 30 Day Trial.

I use it and end up buying it because it work flawless.

The format does not matter for music, video or picture.

The PS3 uses wireless G which imo is useless for streaming and is only good enough for gaming and downloads.

oh...and the other issue i have is that if i stream from tversity, it comes out of my TV speakers. i have the ps3 connected through hdmi, but use optical for audio. everything else runs through the optical. anyone know why it would run through the hdmi?

not sure what wireless format the xbox uses, but i tend not to have much of an issue with streaming to that. i don't really care for how the xbox is set up though, so i would like to use my ps3 if possible
