9800gtx vs 9800gx2

thanks do you know how much is it going to cost?

Expected cost is $450 Expected performance gain is 30% when compared to an 8800 Ultra

are you sure, according to the Desktop Graphics Card Comparison Guide the 9800 gtx has more memory bandwidth, more tansistors, more pixel fill engines, and a 25% higher texel fill rate, a higher memory bus width (512 vs 256x2) and uses GDDR4. it seems like it would beat the gx2 all around. but maybe these numbers are in error
Here's the 9800GTX:

It sports the G92-420 core running at 675MHz, 1688MHz shader clock and 512MB GDDR3 memory running at 2200MHz.

Some games may fun faster with the 9800GTX since 9800GX2 performance relies on SLI.

how much faster will cards be compared to 8800 gtx?
with 8800gtx SLI at the moment in my rig any benefit on upgrading ?

Yep! I wouldn't be surprised if the winner was diffrent between 1280x1024 and 1920x1200. I would also keep an eye out for memory bandwidth issues that might make the GTX come back out on top of the GX2 at 2560x2048. I wouldn't be surprised if which card if deemed faster turns out to be a nightmare as everyone's benchmarks something diffrent.

$599, damn. How many people are still going to buy it? I know I will be.

i'll get the gx2, at least it is not $800......:D

You Do That!! Because its a WHOPPNG 90% over the 8600GTS!! Nice compare nVidia. Real nice. Save your 8800GT,GTS,GTX, and Ultra and wait for a real NEW product from nvidia or ATI.

im more interested in the 9800 gt. wonder what the specs are for that, and price.

Up to 90% faster than 8600GTS... Thats it... NOT BUYING

How can they compare a "High end" new card to a fucked up crappy mid (really low) end card of the last generation

lol not even 100% faster than 8600gts.... my gawd, the company who has this box is gonna get screwed by nvidia so badly

what is the pricing? If its 90% faster and opens at a similar pricing point to the 8600GTS opening pricing point, then that's serious progress. A lot of this also sounds like number mongering. Give it a little time to sww the actual performance.

Hmm.. yes expected cost would be that.. But like what has been seen before, prices don't exactly stay that low if the video card is high in demand. Just like what happened when the 7900gto's came out, it was supposed to be $249, and it jumped to $320's (all prices are USD). Then when the 8800gt's came out, it was supposed to have an msrp of $250, but that one skyrocketed to $300 and over for about a month or so.

But of course, it's a gtx, so I guess a better example would be comparing the top dawgs of their time - 6800 ultra being around 500, 7800gtx 512 being around 500's to 600's, 7900gtx's was around 500's as well, and then the 8800gtx's were 500's to 600's. Of course, I meant those prices to be when they first came out.

IMO, from everything that I have read about the 9800GX2, unless there are some really good drivers, I think it will be a toss up between the 9800GX2 and the 8800GTX/ULTRA. And considering the prices we are seeing for the 8800GTX, I think there are people putting too much hope/interest in the 9800 series.

Yeah, the 9XXX series is just a way of them perfecting their 65nm process for the G100. However, it remains to be seen whether the 9800GT or GTX will be best for gaming at 1680x1050, taking into account the price point. I think if you already have a 8800GTX or Ultra SLI setup, skip the 9 series. If you upgraded to an 8800GT and are gaming on 1920x1200 or above, then the GX2 will be the way to go.

Rumors abound that Nvidia is releasing the G100 series in May/June/July. My thoughts are this is a bit optimistic. Expect the G100 series to hit in September - November time frame.

That is my feeling too that G100 won't be out until the end of the year. That is why I can't just stick with my 8600 GT that long....

I am going to buy the GX2 or GTX, it's just a question of wich one...

I do have the 1920x1200 res, so GX2 is in the lead I guess?

I think they will come out towards the end of the year also.

I hope it's Q3 of this year, the 9800 series doesn't sound as good as I thought it would. But then again, they aren't out yet and we will find out soon how they will perform.

Yeah, I'm not jumping the gun just yet on passing on the 9800 series. For the money spent though, I just don't want to see disappointing benchmarks.

What is the date we will see the GX2 released?

If the GTX takes too long to get out, I will just grab an EVGA GX2 and cover my bet on the sale price... We don't think the GTX could be faster correct? nVidia seems to list the GX2 as their fastest card... I hope they know wich is actually faster! ;)

If I do want back out of the GX2, I could just step into another card providing they make a more expensive one down the line...

If money wasen't an issue, any reason to get the GTX over the GX2?

This is not accurate by no means but all indications of a 9800 GX2 release point to mid/late March. A few sites list March 11th as an official date so we'll see.

90% faster than 8600gts
..... those are the exact words from the 9600gt box. I know it says 9800gx2 but that must be a 9600gt box that they just changed the label on.

Never seen the 9600GT box... i hope its true
Because if not, my head will pop in a nerdy angry way
