Cooler Master RC690 Gallery

I'm about to start my build and just wanted some feedback from you 690 owners about the air flow I have planned:

Option A:

Option B (esentially same as A except TRUE-120 is placed differently):

Just wanna get some feedback on which option you think would provide the most efficient cooling.
Option A

ey guys mind sharing yung HDD temps? mine is @ 40c ..i think my front 120mm fan is having a hard time pulling air in because of the filter, is it okay if i just remove it? (the filter)

my 3 hd's are +\- 40c too , well within operating temp.

much easier to clean a filter then the whole comp.

The 690 is awsome but if you have a non modular psu it sucks bad. My psu is gigantic and long has enough connectors to hook up 2 systems lol. And boy oh boy was it a pain to route the system.

I just put in 3 xigmatek 120mm fans that throw out cfm's like crazy at only 28d, also went with the sunbeam fan controller and my accelero s2!

Okay, so I took the plunge and got my 690. My mind was made up after I stumbled across this thread while researching cases.

So Here's what I have so far...
As it sits now:

Completely stripped of all hardware:

I removed all the plastic "grill" elements leaving just the sleek mesh behind:

insidefrontqw2.jpg

I dremmeled out the metal grating at the top of the case & I'm going to modify two 120mm fans to fit up through the openings.
fanmockry2.jpg

fanmockinsidedp2.jpg

cowlap1.jpg

The fan thats in there now is strictly for mock-up purposes. I had to trim the inside plastic of the cowl a little to get the rear fan to fit underneath.

Next I'm going to paint the entire interior flat black so that everything lighted stands out even more.

Speaking of lighted...the plan is to get 3 Blue & 3 Green LED 120mm Zalman ultra-quiet fans. Splice the LED's across them so I'm left with 6 Blue/Green LED fans. I'll modify the two that go up into the cowl w/ a dremel and a sanding stone so they look good and not crappy,

As of now the system I'm transferring to this box has a Zalman 9700cu LED CPU Cooler & a lighted modular PS. I'm also going to get the Zalman cooler package for my 8800GTX.

Also, I happen to have a good friend who is in England. Soo......He ordered the factory CM windowed side panel for me and is mailing it to me in the states. :D

Any benefits in dremeling out the metal gratings for the fans? I was thinking about doing the same thing and replacing them with these:

directron_1989_884121233

Figured it might provide better air flow or lower noise... Or am I just wasting my time?

Well, in all reality, the less b/t your fan and the outside world, the more air it can move. I cut them specifically to get the fan all the way through the case, but yeah, the less resistance the more air.

Please let me know what you think of my latest build! I was an employee at the store and was able to by all my stuff just before they went out of business. Second post FTW!

i have noticed that some cm690 cases here came with a metal filter for the front intake fan...mine didnt came with any, just the plastic one hmm

i messed around with the case over @ frys last week....perfect weight but it wasn't anything remarkable

what really made me scratch my head over this thing is how flimsy the hd trays are.....sure they have direct fan cooling but ugh i feel like i'm gonna break the damn thing

also those cheap pieces of plastic holding the expansion ports just feel like they're gonna become overextended and useless fast

anyways i'm gonna go for the 830 evo........once cm parts gets them in stock again :)

got my case and am waiting on other parts to arrive before i build, couple of questions though

how can i remove those wire clips along the right hand side of the mobo without breaking them ?

will the top panel remote audio jack work with a sound blaster audigy 2 card ?

will a 120 x 38 mm fan fit in front, i know i would have to use longer screws, but wonder if the front panel will go on with a thicker fan ?

do i need to use screws on dvd drives, or will the built in clip hold them good enough ?

mine came with a plastic fan holder bracket that had a plastic filter, i cut it out as it seemed too restrictive to me..

@the snake

that's exactly what i have, im just worried that if i cut it out the fan would intake too much dust inside the case

for me it easy enough to take my PC and blow the dust out every 2 months or so, i would think the front panel would act as a sort of filter anyways.
it would trap the big stuff anyways :)

I just got my coolermaster 690 in Jan. from a local Comp USA in Greenville SC. $62.00! Unfortunately Comp USA is closing down soon so trying to hit their close out sales once a week till they close doors forever. Found good deals on some ram and looking for a deal on Intel core 2duo. But this coolermaster is a good case with good potential to mod it1 Lot of room going to enjoy this.Like the wire routing I,ve seen in this thread also some nice looking fan controllers. Hope to have a new Asus blitz formula board in soon and the Intel E8440 core 2 duo. Need good PS got suggestions on one?:D

What are the2 silver controllers in the front of your case and did i read they are software controlled? case looks great.

I think I may be who you were refering to - I haven't seen others with 2 silver controllers.

They are CoolerMaster CoolDrive6 controllers, and they can be controlled via hardware buttons, or via software. The software is old, but works fine in Vista (x32, anyway).

@the snake

yeah youre right. the front panel can act as a filter anyway. ill cut it out as soon as my 4 in 3 device module arrives this week :D

I just gently unscrewed them out by hand. Its your only option unless leaving them in. While unscrewing mine, some of the plastic threads from the wire clips were cut off by the metal threads of the case. Couple of mine were even cross threaded from the over sea built house. So I ended up with some useless clips, wasn't going to use them anyway thou.

do i need to use screws on dvd drives, or will the built in clip hold them good enough ?
Locking clips will hold the drive in place. I used a screw on the other side for added insurance.

Progress:

Zalman Fan controller & 1 Green/1 Blue 120mm Zalman Fans:

Removed half the LED's from the fan:

Because of my own ignorance, I ended up having to sacrifice one of the fans for the methods on how to do this right. Thankfully, when I get the rest of the fans, I'll be able to do it right the first time. So I ended w/ one unlighted an and:

modifiedfanoq9.jpg

I have the plastic filter and I think its nice. It changes the look a little. If I had that metal grate on the front I'd DEFINITELY cut it out. Now I still haven't painted the inside, so I just stuck the fan in there temporarily:

frontss2.jpg

And this fan controller is pretty damn slick...I like the interface. I didn't put it in the case because it would just have to come back out...but:

fancontrollersy0.jpg

You get the idea.

Thats all for now...need some more income and I'll get more fans.

Oh...and my buddy in England sent me this picture:
DSC_0027.JPG

Its my windowed side panel, ready to be shipped here!

Looks good. I really wish that there was a way to get a regular side panel with no fan holes or a window, so I can make my own window shape without having to work around the fan holes that are already there.

This is such a great case for the price!!

I think I might have missed it but would a TRUE120 or Zerotherm NV120 fit in the case WITH a fan over the CPU area?

I love this case, especially since I got my rebate check last week. Now just to paint the inside black.

Paint!

Used Rustoleum Professional primer and semi-gloss black. Wiped the whole thing down w/ mineral spririts, sanded the broad areas, primed, sanded, primed, sanded, painted. Total of 2 coats of black on the main flat bits. I also did what slot covers I needed and the inside of the right side (because with the window, you'd be able to see that)

Started assembly. Basically things that don't move, as the paint is still tacky. I also put the feet on so that it would raise it up off the bench so all sides could dry.

Oh, and for those of you wanting a windowed side panel, guess who's carrying them now:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999177

They're out of stock (of course) but they DO have it and the reviews are from the beginning of this month...

I'm pissed. I go through all the trouble to get one from England and then BAM, it shows up on NewEgg.....:mad::mad:

@ Prime Lord
the paint job looks real, nice make sure you post when its finsihed :)

I've been thinking about cutting out the honey comb grills and replacing them with some nice chrome ones or nothing at all. Does this really help airflow? Also, whats the best way to do this? I have tin snips ready to go but this is the first time I've ever done anything like this and dont wish to mess up.

Here's mine. I also decided to paint the thing flat black, but I did not spend as much time as some of the others here. Just your basic Rust-oleum flat black. One coat.

The first pic is just a closeup of the cable opening that I had to dremel open a little larger to pass all those cable through from the Corsair 750TX. It's a little longer than the typical supply and was too close to the existing hole. You'll also see that I installed the now common front fan in the unused area of the 5.25 bays. I also replaced the blue led fan with a regular black Yate Loon. In fact, I put Yate Loon's in all the available spots except the side panel. I left those open. If I can find someone local that can laser engrave a side window, I'd like to have one of my daughter's drawings engraved and lit up on the side.

Did anyone else notice that the stock 120mm fans that come with the case makes some noise? Let me clarify... I don't mean the sound of the air being sucked in/out, but if you put your ear next to the fans while they're spinning, you can hear the bearings going. I guess it kinda sounds like a faint, rapid, clicking sound.
