Hi,

I have a Foxconn X38A motherboard and an Quad core Q6600 CPU. My memory is from OCZ, it's DDR2-800 from the reaper series.

I am just finished building and installing the system and everything seems great, except for one thing. When I start CPUZ it shows my core speed as 1600 and my multiplier as X6. I checked the bios settings and it's X9 and 266FSB. Every now and then the reading will change on CPUZ and it will show the correct info, before going back to 1600mhz and X6.

I have speedstepping turned off in the bios and also have all the windows power management features turned off too. Is there any other power saving features on the X38 motherboard that might be causing this?

Thanks!!

If the CPU multiplier is still being lowered to 6x when idle, then EIST is not turned off. Also, check your C1E setting. However, why would you want to turn off EIST? Its a great way to save on power and lessen the heat output of your system when you're not needing its full potential. There are no drawbacks to leaving EIST enabled.

That's fine, I just wanted to make sure it was not a problem with the CPU or anything. The C1E setting is enabled, but I don't see any option to turn on or off EIST.

Its in your BIOS, highly likely

there is the intel speed step technology and it's disabled, there is no EIST or enhanced intel speed step technology anywhere in the bios.

ok, thanks so far, but, that goes back to my orginal question then, what is causing my CPU to go back to X6 multiplier if the EIST is disabled?? Is it the C1E?
