R680 powers Intel's X48

CES 2008: Intel's gone wild

Intel is happy to share with the world that it has a good relationship with ATI, and that it is happy to support ATI's current and future products.

Those two companies put together a rather interesting setup that included the 9770 3.2GHz CPU from Intel, an X48 Intel motherboard and an R680 graphic card.

R680 is already known as Radeon 3870 X2, and it should be available later this month or early next month.

This is what they look like together, and even in Skulltrail Intel was happy to tell the world that it supports two RV670 cards; and that with the right driver it can even do four cards.

They show three DMARK06 tests to 2560 by 9573 resolution at X1600
(SM2.0: 4494分, SM3.0/HDR:4476分). 看來如果以1600X1200 或是1280X1024測試, 分數是很高的! (SM2.0: 4494 points, SM3.0/HDR: 4476). View to 1600 if the 1280 X1024 or X1200 test scores are high!

As has been said before its no longer than a gtx, dunno why people seem to think otherwise. The cooler is full card length so maybe that gives it the illusion of being longer than the gtx?

The card inside SilverStoneTek's new SG02-F SFF chassis is not the same as the one before. The first one didn't have any coolpipes.

Think id actually prefer the heatpipe card to be honest, id say the pipes would do a better cooling job than 2 seperate what appears to be aluminium heatsinks.

Meh.
Stock AMD cards all look the same, how about some benchmarks? That's more interesting.

So this isn't two boards slapped together like Nvidia's card, but actually 2 chips on the same board? Can't wait for some benches.

I hope this does well and somehow fixes the AntiAliasing issues that the 2900's had. If so I will be getting one (or maybe two) of these when released. Does anyone know if my DQ6 will handle Crossfire as intended or whether one of the PCI-E slots will drop below recommended speed?

So if i have two of these suckers.... can I drive multiple monitors?

UNLIKE Nvidia's SLI solution?

Its like the spy shots of the 2900 awhile back.. Holy fkn huge batman!

I wonder if there is any hope for us X38 chipset users and two of these bad johnnys????

Sweet can't wait to see how these perform and what nv will counter with.. finally some new products!!

Well really, it's not new at all.
The 3870 and 3850 are just refined versions of the 2900XT GPU.

So really, this new X2 is just a two refined 2900XT GPUs.

The key will be how well two GPUs end up scaling. How powerful will the one card be compared to the competition?

The MAXX saw very limited driver support, it sucks because i like the rage fury processor, too bad something like that saw little to no support from its own developers (couldn't even play D2 on it)

I hope this see's a life long support for its drivers, its cool they were able to see place both GPU's on the same PCB while keeping wattage down to a min. Lets hope this brings a bite under Nv's ass =D

I think it's crazy that now with AMD you can set up actual 2 x 4 core cpu's and 2 x 2 core gpu's to be ultimate. Mention that to someone 3 years ago he'd call you stupid.

It looks like that ting will hit my hard drives in my case. How long is the GTX in inchs?

Well they really were seriuose about their 4x4 setup, maybe Kyle can elighten us about his thoughts about how they kept word?

So over 500 years we go from the abacus, to 666 million transistors on on something you could hold on one finger

It's mostly in the pics where it's all by itself with nothing else to compare it to where it looks larger............. the pic where it is next to the GTX is much more revealing, they're literally identically sized........ so if your case will accomodate a GTX, it'll accomodate this thing.............

Regular Sanyo WG instead of Conductive polymer or OSCON caps? I wonder why? With consistent 70+ C on GFX cards, this does not look like a good idea.

Don't think there's a board out that'll allow 4 dual slot cards to run at one time...

There's an MSI 790FX board currently out that can.

However, you'll notice that the 3870X2 has only one Xfire bridge connector, which means you're limited to two cards, unlike the 3870 which can do four.
