Hey I have a linksys router and I like to play age of empires 3. I keep getting this
(Failed To Join Game) message when I am plugged into my router. When I plug into the modem the problem goes away but the family gets anoyed with no one being able to use the internet besides me. I have tried updateing firmware, port forwarding turning on DMZ and turning UPnP on and off and still no progress. Can any one help me?

One would expect uPnP being on would resolve the issue, howerver if the router is old enough it may not be supporting uPnP at today's levels.

There is an internet connection compatibility tester on Microsoft's site specifically for testing routers for this sort of stuff.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/using/tools/igd/default.mspx

If all else fails, you will probably have to search the net for the necessary ports to open.

To be honest, this is one of the best reasons these days to replace 3+ year old routers. Full uPnP compatibility is becomming more important every day.

IE6 or later is required to run the Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool.

Some of the Linksys and Netgear routers have specific games listed in the port forwarding/port triggering mechanism. I don't have one with me to check where it's at, but there should be some menu options for opening ports, or forwarding ports.

Here is a handy port list, that includes the necessary port for Age of Empires. Good luck.

hey guys i have been talking to indians forever on this one and finaly got it i had to bridge my modem to my router.

of course but i would not dare open it

IE7 is decent. And besides, even in a completely unsecured browser, if your just going to hardforum, your e-mail site, and any other trusted site your fine, when you start google searching crap and clicking on links with unknown origins, you get in trouble.

of course but i would not dare open it

Because opening it to go to Microsoft's site is going to cause hackers, viruses (wrong I know), and spyware to infect your system for eternity!

Pretty sure opening IE 6 is safe, and going directly to Microsoft's site is also safe.
