Dell is making headlines today with the release of its first tablet computer. Capacitive touch technology, Core 2 Duo processor, full size keyboard an a battery life of up to 9.5 hours are just a few of the highlights. What do you guys think of tablet PCs?

Capacitive technology does not require pressure because the technology recognizes a finger touch. The model has "advanced digital palm rejection," so that, if the rest of your hand gets in the way of your finger, the XT recognizes your intended input. And the touch response time, according to Dell, is up to 10 times faster than other tablets, such as the Lenovo X61T.

I love the concept of tablet pc's but their battery life being on par with notebooks make it undesireable.

If you have to sit down and plug it in, you might as well use the keyboard and mouse.

But if Dell managed to make this 9.5 hours and keep the price approximately the same as notebooks (and I'm not talking about their XPS line!) I would be very interested.

They need to lower their price if they wish to compete with other serious notebook competitors. Several of our employees are currently using this http://www.buytech.com/p-479045-hp-tablet-pc-2710p.aspx

It's a tiny little thing, about 12 inches widescreen and weighs as light as a feather. Pretty snappy too.

But like I said in my post above, battery is important in my decision to get myself a tablet PC. Perhaps that's what Dell's using to be able to keep their price up. But still, long battery life isn't worth $1000 more to me.

the screen is nice and all, but i'd rather just stick with the hardware i have in my gateway CX210X.....X1400 and non-ULV C2D just makes it more practical for every day use. i still manage to get ~4-5 hours battery life out of it, which all things considered, is more than enough for me to take notes in multiple classes, and plug in whenever i'm on break

I have an XT eval unit due to arrive on my desk in the next 30 days, I'm stoked! I have an inside line considering HP provides 4,500 PC's to my company every 3 years or so and Dell wants the business :)

Still waiting on my HP Tablet

As an artist this is just about the worst tablet I've ever seen, and way less bang for the buck than most. I did notice however that in the intro video they did not mention artists so I'll leave that alone. Maybe someday they will make a good tablet with a WACOM screen, until then I think I'll go with Toshiba.

Did Dell remove it from the website? I don't see it anywhere.

I didn't see it anywhere either.

On the other hand - starting at $2500?! FTL. I'll be getting a Lenovo tablet this summer then - final cost after a shyteload of upgrades is about $2500, plus its got much better build quality and all the things that make the X61T what it is: things like active rotate where there's an accelerometer in the screen to automatically rotate the screen when you rotate the computer for example, instead of pushing a button.

And can someone confirm - does it come with a wacom digitizer? I see the Lenovo logo on Wacom's site but I don't see wacom or penabled anywhere on the Lenovo site...

What an ugly shirt that man is wearing in that video :D

I'll do a little write up in the forum when I get my hands on one.
