Crysis...what happened?

So i guess 2nd half of crysis disappointed to you huh. Since you are basically forced on their path to take. I mean its far from being "Open"

No, read my edited post.

It's still *predominantly* what you make of it, save for a few parts.

For the sake of convenience:

Edit:
Oh, and even on the alien levels, you are not forced to play the game a certain way (for the *most part*).
For example, take the mission down the mountain when you ride shotgun in the jeep.
I jumped out of the jeep about 1/8 mile down the road, hitched a ride down the side of the mountain using a friggin TORNADO! :p
Then happened to find a nice camping spot to pull out the gauss, RL, and sniper rifle from a mile a way on the baddies.

I was never forced to play it just one way.
Also, even on the ice level, you dont have to fight most of the aliens, just stealth by them, take the high roads.
Admittedly, once you meet prophet, you do have to fight a few baddies, but thats just because you have to escort him.

That was the worst ending ever.. I just finished the game on Delta. Gotta say, that was on par with the Halo2 ending. WTF?

for fun in crysis put -DEVMODE after the command line grab a rocket launcher [infinate ammo in devmode] throw enemies or whatever in the air using strenth mode and try to blast'em, hehe PULL =]

It seems to be very fashionable to bash Crysis atm, and especially to use CoD4 as an example of a game that runs faster and looks better. But it's really the design of CoD4 that makes it look good, it's not in the same league as Crysis in terms of visual complexity and that's why there's a performance difference. Compare the sections of both games that are set inside ships (the only bits I can think of that are really comparable), there's a world of difference in detail and lighting.
This isn't fanboy-ism, I preferred the gameplay of CoD too, especially when the story really kicked in, but just because I enjoyed it more and it ran faster doesn't mean I would claim CoD could ever compete with Crysis visually. There were just too many jaw-on-the-floor "wow" graphical moments in Crysis, whereas CoD was more about the fun set-piece shoot-outs and compelling story (not to mention that odd rim-lighting they put on everything).

I actually used to hate it when people hated on major titles, never made any sense to me because they were at least DECENT, hell I loved Doom 3. Some of the art direction is pretty good in COD4 so I'll give you that, but the weapon handling and textures looked great to me. Characters looked outstanding and you could have 20+ people on the screen in a major firefight without a slowdown, that's a technological feat to me.

However, I realize that Crysis holds the technical advantage over COD4 and at the highest settings looks better, no argument there, but who the hell can play it? I am consumer, not a philosopher and the pics look great but I can't play those.

Not really arguing with your points though, I agree with you.

I'm half way through and I have to give credits to the level designers. Its amazing how there are some place so far away that never requires us to go and yet the design it. I took some time to drive around and ended up at a deserted cemetery lol.

I have a 8600 GT and i'm satisfied by the quality/performance I'm getting.

The game was great until the "Core" level, which sucked and got tired really fast (except for the trip out of the cave... that was pretty cool).

"Paradise Lost" was an improvement, but then "Ascension" screwed it all up for me again.

Basically, once you fight the aliens instead of the KPA, the game starts getting a little crappy.

Just my $.02.

.

I can.
I can play it at those settings, and get a very smooth experience out of it.

I, and countless thousands of others who have rigs similar to mine or better, can play it at my settings and can furthermore corroborate what I have stated.

I dont understand this compelling need some people have to sensationalize and hyperbolize Crysis' alleged poor performance, making it seem as if it is absolutely ubiquitous.

News flash, it's NOT!

Thousands eh? Wow, that must be less that 1% of the gaming market. I'm sure 1% of the car market drives Ferrari's.....what's your point?

I think he means that he has no performance problems and the game plays very well.
I agree :)

That cemetery WILL be used later in the game....at night....in a battle with some nano suited enemies:p

But yeah, you can actually EXPLORE.....

Agreed!

Agreed. The gravity less cave level was pretty boring and not fun to play. It wasn''t that bad the first time, but the second time I played through the game I was just like please let's get out of this crappy cave.. The levels following (with aliens) weren't that bad, but I did enjoy the first levels more, when it was just koreans.

Ferrari typically ships 2000-4000 cars per year.

If that represented 1% of the market, then worldwide automobile production would be about 400,000 cars per year.

By comparison, last year, Ford shipped almost 500,000 F-150s.

"In 2006, more than 69 million motor vehicles, including cars and commercial vehicles were produced worldwide." (wikipedia)

1% of that would make 690 000 ferraris IN A YEAR!

Every 1 car out of 100 that drive past you would be a ferrari! I WISH!!!!

I know, I'm actually happy for you guys and I'm sure there is some kid in Japan playing Play station 4 right now, I'm just saying the VAST majority of people can't play at those settings .

Probably just you that other guy and Cevat Yerli...j/k I know there are some people who can but that wasn't what I was driving at.

BTW, LoL @ all the Ferrari knowledge in here, good stuff.

I thought it was 7900GTX. Nevermind that was Alan Wake.

If I recall correctly Alan Wake was originally shown on a Quad SLI 7950GX2 equipped machine running a Pentium D965 Extreme Edition (3.73GHz) overclocked past 4GHz. At least I recall something like that being mentioned in one of the videos.

Kinda sounds like you're stuck tweaking config files or else leaving it on the shelf until your Penryn comes in. One thing I haven't seen (but haven't looked for) is how specific settings affect GPU vs. CPU or RAM. Obvious stuff like LOD excluded of course.

Yeah, for me the game simply does not run acceptably. Sure if I turn everything down to medium and run no AA and a really low resolution it runs ok. It looks like a last gen game like that though. My computer is not top of the line but it's pretty quick for every other game.

well i got my new PC together lastnight
I got BFG 8800GT, 4gig ram, E6750, abit IP35-e with Vista 64
I am alble to run the game at 1280x1024 and almost everything on very high. I just keep sound, in game effects, physiscs, on high..the game runs silky smooth for me

it must be your cpu. those with a good dual core cpu and 8800gt can easy average 40-45fps on high settings at 1280x1024.

How? I can't get better than 30 on med-high with my 8800GT, and I'm using a deal core opteron 165 at 2.4GHz. It's not the greatest CPU but it shouldn't be awful either.

run 1280x800,dx9,med setting, except shaders and water they're on high rest in sig,and i get any where from mid-teens to upper 40s,that's good looking water.got the special edition, wish i would have left it on the counter.

Exactly.
The 8800GT, especially the superclocked ones (or do it yourself really) are a Godsend in this game.

For $250 you get performance almost equaling and sometimes exceeding that of a $500 card, and you get to play Crysis quite smoothly, so long as the rest of your parts are up to par, and looks likes yours are.

Enjoy. :)

While I can think of better game endings that isn't the worst at all. Try Quake 1 for a terrible ending. That's probably the worst of all time in my book. You really get NOTHING to look at for your troubles. I think the ending to Far Cry was worse than Crysis if memory serves.
