I just started playing like an hour ago, never played before. I'm trying to find this girl that is part of the "Woodland Protector" quest, and i've looked stuff up on the internet about where i can find her, but all i get is cordinates like 54,57, How do i use cordinates in the game, do you input them in somewhere, or what, sorry if this question is stupid, but i dont know anything about this game.

You need to download a mod. If you like the game you should learn how to use mods as soon as possible because they are practically vital later on for raiding and stuff. I have two level 70's and I would quit playing if my mods quit working.

I would recommend CosmosUI, which is an auto-updating mod package that contains about 100 of the most popular mods. You can get it at cosmosui.org.

Some absolutely essential mods:
Atlas Loot - A loot browser, lets you see what boss drops what gear in what dungeon, also lets you browse reputation rewards, PvP rewards, Tier sets, and many other things
Alpha Map - A map replacement, lets you set custom map notes and includes a coordinate system (what you were looking for)
MobInfo2 - A database that keeps track of almost too many statistics for each mob and item that you see in the game. Will tell you things like:
- How much health and mana a mob has, as well as magic resistances
- How hard they hit you for last time you fought them
- How much exp you got last time you killed one
- How many more of those mobs you need to kill to level up
- What items they have dropped for you
- The average value of all of their drops
Clock - A tiny clock with a ton of info when you mouse over it. Tells you things like your exp earned per hour, your gold earned per hour, and your time until next level at your current rate
Damage Meters - Keeps track of how much damage (or healing, or many other things) you are contributing to your group
All-In-One Inventory - Opens all of your bags at once in a single window, including your bank bags
....and many others I am not mentioning.

You can find other mods not included in that pack that you may be interested in at wow.curse.com

ok so now that i have all that cosmosui stuff installed how to i use it. How to i use cordinates to find stuff. I have the cordinates of a person i'm trying to find, how to i use them, i'm completely friggin lost.

If it is installed correctly you should be able to see a new icon on your map ring, several new icons in fact, click on them one at a time until you find the one that brings up alpha map, at the bottom of the alpha map window you will see your current coordinates and your cursors coordinate position on the map.

*edit* Im sorry I was wrong, the coordinates are not in alpha map they are added to the bottom of the normal map window that you bring up with the "M" key, you can see what I mean here:

ok so i figured that out, now is there any way to set like marker on the map so i can follow it to the cordinates i want or something simliar to that

thanks for all the help. This game is pretty daunting at first, theres alot more to it then i thought there was going to be. The only other mmorpg i ever played was Guild Wars and I played Planetside a lil bit. I only doing the 10day trial of this game but so far i like it so i think i'm going to go pick up the full game. Thanks again for all the help

i had one more question about those cosmosui mods i just installed. is there a way to turn off certain mods and what not. Like i dont know what that outfit thing is, something about changing your outfit color and all that crap, like what the hell is that ?

and one more thing....i've been trying to find some type of meter that tells me how close i am to leveling up, can someone tell me where i can find how close i am to my next level

with the new patch you will see a question mark or exclamation point on the mini-map(upper right hand corner) this will show the location of a quest giver, also i use cartographer which is a good map plug in that also has cords.

Yes, hit escape until you get to the menu where you can exit the game, at the top you will see khaos configure, which is new. Go into that and you can turn on or off any of the mods in the pack, and you can setup and save different configurations too

Try Titan bar, it is quite customizable and nice. Will tell you how much gold you got, xp/hr, regen, location, and so on. Unlike other mods, you can stick it on the top of the screen and forget about it, only using it when you have to.

I would suggest that you DON'T use things like wowhead as you level your first character to 70 unless you absolutely can't find something and really need help. You will have a much better experience while leveling and it will be more memorable. It will take you longer to level, but it will be worth it.

You don't need to download anything.

Talk to people ingame or simply roam around and look at things, take time to walk around.

Get mods later when you actually know what the hell they do and why you need them.

It's the easiest game on the planet if you just take a moment to try.

I'd say get rid of cosmosui and just get a simple coordinate mod, you don't need anything else confusing you when you are learning the game. I remember using one called Punky_coords, but I don't know if it has been updated.

Cartographer is the best map mod you can get for starting out. It has coordinates, shrinks the size of the map and makes it movable, and shows instance loot. Once you get more comfortable with mods there are many addons you can use with it that you might find useful.

I will second on the Cosmos and Alpha Map plugins in addition I would also suggest Parrot and Omen, Parrot shows incomming and outgoing healing and damage without cuttering up your chat box(I have a tab for it but rarely look at it), Omen helps you keep track of your place on the npc's agro list which can really help in grouping in the Instances.

For reference sites, thotbot.com, wowhead.com, and wow.allakhazam.com, have helped me out many times with some of the vague quests and have also helped me with a general direction of where to go and when.

WoW is a fun game if you don't try to just grind the first 70 levels away, you will level quickly, even more so with the 2.3 patch. I started the first sunday of October and have been casually playing 1-3 hours a day and I am now 1/2 way into 63, sure I could of been 70 by now but I decided to actually play the content. Most of the quests in WoW are easy and reward with exp, cash and items but if you want good gear pre 60 then Instances are the place to go and with instances you must group as you will quickly find you will not likely be able to solo an Elite mob in an instance of your level range let alone a group of them.

When you get to the 60+ range leveling will slow down quite a bit even tho the incomming exp is much higher, if I remember correctly leveling from 59-60 took 100k exp but from 60-61 was closer to 400k and 61-62 is near 600k.

There are LOTS of mods for WoW. But the 3 that are most relevant for questing are Monkey Quest, Cartographer, and Mobmap.

Mobmap is a database of ALL the NPC's, quests, items, etc in the game. Once you bring up the mod, you can simply type in the name of the NPC you're looking for and it will tell you where they are located. If you have Cartographer installed, it will even show you on your map where that NPC is located.
