So looking at HIS's website, they have a flash animation advertising the HIS 3850 512mb ICEQ3 edition card....says to check out the retail store to buy it. Only problem is I cant find an HIS store on their site, and none of the e-tailers have the card up. Has anyone found this thing yet? Looks absolutely sick from the pic.

How much do you think something like that will go for? Just look at how over priced those cards are now all over the net.

Prices will come back down once the demand slows for them or more 3870 chips make it to market.

Exactly, things will even out and prices will come down. That card looks rocking though and quiet!

The pricing should be inbetween the 256mb 3850 and the 3870. Will hopefully retail for $199. I personally would prefer a single slot 512MB 3850.

If any spots one of these cards please post back! Thanks.

I'm also hoping to see a single-slot 512mb 3850. If it turns out there's not going to be any I'm going with the HIS ICEQ3 version...ICEQ coolers are amazing imho.

I'm thinking $199 is probably going to be the MSRP for the 512mb 3850's. That would be right in the middle of the 256mb 3850, and the stock 3870. The OC'd powercolor 3870 with the custom cooler will probably run $249 I'd say.

Hmmmm...now that I think about it...what do you guys think would be better: 512mb 3850 with ICEQ3 or just a stock 3870 (gddr4)? Most likely only a $20 difference between the 2 cards.

Nice find! Hopefully this means we will start seeing others come out within the next week or two.

As for Gecube, I've never owned one myself, nor do I know anyone who has. Does anyone have any input on this company?

Also, with a price so close to the stock 3870, is there even a reason to get one of these 512mb 3850's? I mean for just a few dollars more you get the gddr4 memory...

edit: found a pic of the gecube card....and for some reason it wont show up using =(

HIS is advertising the 3850 as 256/512mb on their site using just the pic of the single slot card. Hopefully the non-ICEQ3 version will be single slot....then again maybe the 512mb version needs a dual-slot cooler since its basically a 3870 with gddr3 instead of gddr4?

Sapphire has what looks like a single slot heat pipe version of the 3850 512mb. Looks interesting.

Yea I was diggin that one too until I saw the heatpipe extending at the top making it unsuitable for my HTPC.

Boo dual slot cooler. :( I want a 3850 512MB with single slot cooler.

Same here. I was disappointed to see this one with a dual slot cooler as well. As soon as someone spots a 512MB 3850 with a single slot cooler please post ASAP so we can buy it.

I emailed Powercolors sales dept. and got this response back....

Hi

3870 512MB PCS, will be available at beginning ~ mid Dec. the price shall be around $270 ~280 .

Regards,

Michael

Short sweet and to the point, but youch if they are going to retail them for that cost I would not doubt to see them selling for $300 depending on demand, and at that point its geting out of the budget card range. I replied back to the above email and suggested he sell them to all of us on the forum direct from them for MSRP so we don't get ripped off by e-tailers :)

Now a single-slot cooler of this card would make a bit more sense for a 3 or 4 card solution!

How did you even find this video card? I searched for 3850... no show. I viewed all GeCube video cards... no show. Nice find. I was hoping to see them priced at the $190-200 range though.

You have no idea how much I've been looking, poking, prodding, searching ~ I've wanted to get an 8800GT since the day they came out and I don't know why the hell I didn't order one from Fry's at $230.... I was thinking to myself: I'll wait a few weeks 'til the price drops a little, I'm not in much of a hurry :p

Anyway, I tried to search for it, couldn't find it, so I dug through my history and found it again that way ~ no idea why I could find it the first time (by searching Newegg for PCIe 2.0) 'cause later when I tried that didn't work anymore, it's like they wanted it to be hidden but not if you go to the link directly?

I don't want to wait anymore, I want a card at least as good as the 8800GT, but I want to pay around $200 ~ so, I'm stuck. If I can get a card that's BETTER than the 8800GT then I'd be happy to go ahead and pay $300, 'cause I'd like to play Crysis at 1680 x 1050 with 4x AA.

I figure if I'm gonna get a new card now or soon, it ought to play at at least 4x AA at my 1680x1050 native res. I'm sick of non AA game playing, once I tried it YEARS ago with VQuake on the Verite V1000 (that's QUAKE ONE I'm talking about!!?!) and Soul Calibur back on the Dreamcast I didn't want to go back to cruddy jagged non AA games. When I see games like Halo 3 without AA I think "wtf?!?" what is this SHIT on a console 10 years newer?!?

You have to be clever and sneaky to find stuff sometimes, like somebody else pointed out a lot of the 8800GT cards on Newegg say out of stock in the search list, but then if you click on it's page somehow magically it's in stock and you can order it, what's up with that?

Yo, CHECK THIS OUT!!! ICEQ 3 heatsink slapped onto a 3870

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?p=551854

Somebody just swapped 3870's stock hsf with HIS's IceQ 3 hsf and it cools by several degrees better. I have one on my X1900XTX and would love to do the same. But it's not compatible with the ramsink so I need to buy some small Zalman heatsinks.. or try to find whatever I have in my box full of various heatsinks collected over the years.

Come on, HIS.. release that ICEQ version already, dammit!

GeCube already released its own X-Turbo III version with 2 thick heatpipes, from day one for 3870 and 3850 (the 3850 512MB one is already on sale at newegg right now for like 205 bucks).

you won't be able to play 4x AA with the 8800GT. 8800GT will soon drop as the new batch of GTS are coming out in 10 days

I personally have not had a good experience with HIS. In fact, I just RMAed a X1950 Pro IceQ3. It was never stable at HIS' stock overclocked speed, but stable at ATI's reference speed. And then the fan started making a horribly loud grinding noise. I looked on ebay, and the first one I found was a person selling his with the EXACT same problem (not stable at HIS' overclocked speed but stable at ATI reference speed, fan grinding noise). Taking a look at reviews on Newegg, several people also had the same issues. Oh well, the cooler was nice when it worked.

The Oced 3850 512Mb cards might do 760 or so, thing is the 3870s can often OC to 850-870. I believe most 3850s are 3870s that didn't make the cut.

Still, if I did go 3850 it would be a 512Mb card. No way I would buy 256Mb with the type of games we have coming out.

I emailed them and they said ~Friday this week. :)

@ $270-280 :( f that man Ill take the stock Powercolor 3870 I just bought for $220 shipped and spend the extra cash on a kick ass cooler and o/c it myself and still have $20 leftover :) Which is exactly what I am doing

scroll up its in this thread...I emailed their sales dept last week and asked. I'm guessing if the current price gouching remains we will see them at retail at the $300 mark

If it really retail's for that price then I will just get one with the normal cooler. Price gouging ftl.

Smart, which cooler?

Accelero S1 w/ the fans ("turbo module" )

I would rather have the Thermalright HR-03 but the price with a fan is almost $40 more....or double the price of teh Accelero so no, not to mention I plan on crossfiring my card when I go 1920x1200 so....

yeah no doubt....when I read that email my heart sunk....I was expecting $250, which at that price I would have bit to have the Zalman cooler and a warranty, but at $275ish (+) no thanks I would rather do it myself.

I just tracked my 3870 from BB and it is getting here Wednesday so I guess Ill spend the weekend playing and tweaking and see how high I can clock it and then go for aftermarket cooling if need be.

Sounds good, let us know how it goes. Also, does anyone know what the stock coolers sound like on the 3850/3870's? I have a x1950xtx and it gets quite loud. I would hope these cards would be more quiet (hence the reason I'm looking for an after market cooler). Let me know if you can.

from what i've read, the stock 3870 cooler is actually very quiet.
