I have been watching the prices of this monitor for a while. People seem to think it is an accepted fact that it is a $500 monitor, although, I can not find it for that price anywhere anymore. This is too bad, it is like it went up just when I wanted to buy it. I plan on buying two of them. Anyone know where you can get it cheaper, and what prices did you pay for it?

Here are the sites I am watching:

Ohhh, I never saw that. The site is not actually loading right now. Do you know if it happens to have free shipping there. I will seriously buy like 2 right now if they do.

Sure it is the 246 and not the 245?

Thanks for the heads up.

-------------------------

Edit: It actually loaded. It does seem to have free shipping and does look like the right monitor. If the site keeps up, I think I will be ordering them tonight.

I thought the 246 and the 245 were the same, but ones for retail and ones for online/oem?

at any rate i got a L246 from bestbuy a month or so ago... awesome screen

How much did you pay for that? I've never looked for it in retail.

Actually just finished ordering two of them from Fry's. Free shipping, but with tax it ended up being $1062. Pretty amazing, now I just have to hope they had it in stock. It said "Call for Availability". This means it is backordered. Sounds like a bad sign to me.

Thanks for the price update!
I went to frys yesterday and they had it up for $600.. they said they don't match their own prices..
I was debating on waiting, but $430 changes everything

Order two of them like I did. ;)

Wow, I hate to reply three times in a row, but I had to tell everyone that the monitor is actually now on sale for $430 and free shipping. This is the best price this monitor has ever been, and for free shipping... damn. Note that it is on backorder, so no telling how long we could be waiting. :(

Check it out: http://shop2.outpost.com/product/5175376?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Damn, thanks! Had some extra money and couldn't decide what to spend it on. I had been debating it for awhile @ 499 but with this extra money and $430 did it.

I hope all of us placing orders doesn't make the waiting time even more. Heh. But at least we are not alone in waiting.

Hmmm, too bad. Guess we have to play the waiting game than. Ugh. Thanks for letting us know how that went. ;)

Just a heads up:

Bestbuy.com actually has the monitor for $499 and free shipping for Sunday and Monday. I am considering canceling my order at Frys and just paying more; I am worried Fry's will not get another shipment soon or even at all.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8267724&type=product&id=1170290207389

Here is an e-mail I just sent them:

---------------------------------
Hello,

I recently ordered two LG L246WP 24 inch monitors and I've recently been informed that the item is on backorder. When I called the support number they stated that a previous shipment never arrived and that it could be several weeks before more arrive. I am not completely sure how you define backorder. Does that mean that I will for sure receive the monitors at some point in time? Is it possible there will never be another shipment? A competition website actually has the monitors on sale for $499 ($70 more than I paid at Fry's), although they for sure have stock and can ship in one day. I would hate to cancel my order and go with the more expensive site, although I fear the supplies of this monitor may be limited in the time to come and would like to guarantee that I will not be left without them.

Please let me know what would be suggested and whether you can guarantee I will get the monitors within a reasonable amount of time.

---------------------------------
Got a quick reply:
---------------------------------

Thank you for contacting Frys.com.

At this time we do not have a confirmed delivery date for this item as
the manufacturer has not been able to provide an anticipated ship date.
We should be given an expected arrival time for the item shortly. Please
feel free to check back with us at a later date.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

---------------------------------

I don't really know what to think. Ugh, I just want my monitors. I just fear that Fry's will wait like 3 weeks, and then tell me they won't be getting more shipments. Then we will find out LG has stopped making the monitor and that supplies are getting limited. Then prices will raise everywhere, and we will be stuck without them. All when we could have gotten them quickly from Best Buy... right now.

Aggravating, isn't it? :(

I have a question about inputs/outputs...
So.. this monitor has a hdmi and component output, and a hdmi->dvi cable.. Will I be able to connect a gamecube or ps2 to it? I've never used anything but composite for those. What is s-video, and can it be used to connect a ps2/gamecube? perhaps through my video card?

how is this monitor compared to the other 24" monitors available? besides this one I was looking at the Samsung 245T, Dell 2407fwp, theres the gateway, westy. I think thats it. I need a monitor or actually want a monitor that has component or composite inputs. HDMI is a plus, and standard DVI/vga. However I dont know if this price can be beat for a 24" monitor. let me know your thoughts please

For the BenQ, Dell, and LG... oh, and the comment about the gateway on the bottom..

I think this is the best screen out there. Lacks inputs but if you're just using for PC its fine.

I'm gonna pick up the $499 price at BB tomorrow!

I'd be weary of buying from fry's anyways. That store is notorious for selling refurbished items as new. You never know if you're actually getting a new product or not. So personally, I'd just have bestbuy pricematch to frys and get it from there.

Bestbuy only pricematches local stores, and doesn't do online prices..

thanks for the link. helpful review. I will have to stop by bestbuy and have a second look at the LG.

I will mostly use the monitor just as a pc monitor and some games. however I plan to hook up satellite to it as well. not sure what else I may hook up to it in the future.

My 3 main choices are either the LG which will be the cheapest, The BenQ FP241W, and the Samsung 245T. The BenQ and Samsung are similarly priced and I am hoping more reviews on the samsung will appear. I have been using Smsung monitors for the past several years and am happy with them, but if the BenQ is better for the same price; I may as well go with the BenQ. not sure which one will last longer either. not familiar with BenQ, But I have never had any problems with my samsung monitors. or i can just save a bit of money and get the LG for now till prices on the 27" monitors drop a bit more (a good $300, lol).

anyways I will do some more research before I finalize my decision. Thanks for the link and your thoughts

The deal is dead now at Fry's. The link just redirects to the Fry's.com Homepage.

um... frys cancelled my order, putting blame to a "credit card discrepancy"
I provided the exact same information I did for newegg/paypal, which both processed w/o problems.

The cancelled mine as well. Oh well, if it is too good to be true, it probably is. $430 for a $650 monitor was too good to be true.

I've promptly ordered it from Best Buy at $499 with free shipping. This sale ends Tuesday, so hurry up if you want it. That is $100 cheaper than everywhere else.

Yay. Should be here by Friday it says. :)

It did seem a little too good to be true. I purchased this monitor at best buy for 499 at a previous sale - and it was totally worth it :) Might pick up a second one from best buy now, but the deal isn't as hot.

Ughhh canceled...$499 is decent, but not enough to get me on it just yet. Guess I'm going to play the price watch game again.

Yes - you can check local store availability on the website.

Its an April 2007 build but still looks great.

Ya, the nearest one to me is 30 minutes away. So, that would be an hour round trip. Free shipping is cheaper than the gas, heh.

What is the desired build month? After June 2007 or something?

Picked this monitor up Sunday night. The price at the store was $599, but got a few people to check the "global" Best Buy site to see the $499 tag and match it. First 2 guys I asked were visiting the "in-store" site and it said $599, but another guy found it for the lower price and I walked out happy :D.

Heh, so Best Buy actually does price match their own website than?

When was your panel made?

Ya, they didn't want to at first. Or at least, two guys were ignorant :p.

Where can I find that info?

I think it is on the back on the sticker thingy somewhere. Not really sure since I don't actually have mine yet and pictures of this monitor are rather scarce.

You went to Best Buy and bought it in the store? I don't think any around me had it in stock. I will have to wait until UPS brings it to me for free.
Don't believe the web site....I manually call the store because their site is almost always wrong....

the website has said they have been out for like 4 days now and yet when I called the store they had 2 in stock and they had been in stock for a few days (they held one for me and price matched the bestbuy.com price of $499).

Well, got my order confirmation thing. Shipped out of the website. I hope that it gets here by Saturday. :)

Hey,

I missed the compusa 500$ deal, the bestbuy 500$, and the fry's 430$,

how many of you people are pricewatching and waiting, and does anyone know when the price of the monitor will dip around 500$ again?
