Finally, someone has gotten a little hands-on time with the Optimus Maximus. Is this thing worth the crazy cash they are asking for it? You might be surprised. Head on over to Engadget for the rundown and check out all the pictures while you are there.

The legendary Optimus Maximus is chilling out at the Wired Store in SoHo as of this week, so we dropped by to snap a few pictures. We've gotta say we're pretty impressed, the build seems as solid as a rock, the screens are crazy bright and all the glossy keys catch the light just right.

 :slobber:

I have got to get one. My credit card is going to hate me...

So, that would be the first keyboard I've seen where a store uses a security attachment AND a keystone lock.

oh hell no.

no way on earth a keyboard should cost that much, EVER.

how completely ridiculous

it was bad enough spilling a fizzy drink on my g15, imagine frying this!

G15 rules! I'm not even sure if I'd replace the G15 with this if it came within the same price range.

Cool idea, but I'm okay with my Saitek Eclipse II keyboard... it has 3 different colors!!! And only cost $35.....

Keyboards need to be very durable. I have doubts as to that one's durability. If they were six bucks each I'd buy a six pack.

I can see people with too much money buying this just so they can type on naked girls all day

For 1500 bucks they can suck on my big left nut.....I remember about 2-3 years ago they were saying this thing would go for about 350 give or take 50 bucks....fucking ridiculous.

You can build a very good gaming rig for that much.....

So many negative posts.

I think they did a great job putting OLED to use. Sure it's expensive, but all things new begins expensive. Remember when HDTV costed $10,000-15,000?

And you can buy a whole lot of corvettes for the price of an Enzo, but at the end of the day, the Enzo is still the shit.

people buy this stuff because it is neat and exclusive, and some people just have a lot of disposable income.
just like someone spending $500 on a shirt.

LOL......so true :D I'd spend the money on an Enzo though....but a 1500 keyboard won't get you many chicks or praise, just a larger e-penis hahah.

The Enzo will melt off panties for miles around, and give you the biggest E-penis hard on ever....:p

The idea is cool, but really, do many of us EVER look at our keyboards when we're gaming or typing dribble on the forums?? No. We're (mostly) capable typists. The only time I look at my keyboard is to look for numbers or when my fingers move over one key smf yjod js[[rdms. (and this happens).

However, I know people with enough money to buy one of these just for the hell of it. Just like the Enzo comment, if you can afford it, why not? Look at all the premium brands out there...Ferrari, Prada, Gucci, Koenigsegg (sp?), Patek Philip, etc etc...

There's no need for a $50,000 watch, a $5000 purse, a $1,000,000 car, or putting 4 graphics cards in quad SLI, but people do it....I say, let them, I'm jealous that I'm not one of them!!

blame the costs of OLEDs..
i thought producing OLEDs was cheap

i remember reading crap like "printing OLEDs with your home printer! just modify ETC....."

by the time these "new" display technologies hit the shelves.. wait. nvm.

I'd rather get that three-button Optimus bar for $100ish instead. Something tells me that I'd wear this sucker down real fast, I wear out the print on cheap noname keyboards in under a month as much as I'm typing.

The screens are protected by a thick glass (or plastic?) casing. Doubt you'd wear that out very quickly. Although, the keyboard's displays only have a 3 year lifetime.

i wait for $50 optimo maxus.
coming soon from china!

I can see their first mistake - it's black. Make it white and the Mac zealots will snap it up. They're used to being screwed by the price of their hardware.

Make it white and get apple to put their name & logo on it, then you they will snap it up.

:D

what disturbs me is that this keyboard costs almost 350 bucks more than my 37 inch westy and 24 inch soyo.

hell i could buy another 24 inch soyo and have 2 24 inch displays to go with my 37 inch display and it would still be cheaper than this keyboard :confused:
