i'm not really sure how to hook this up since the sub has no sort of connection...

any advice?

they are not designed to work together. it can be done by using an RCA to miniplug but i would not advise this.

you need to plug the RCA side to the sub output on the receiver and the miniplug sie into the control pod designate "sub/center"

what about an optical cable? i'm a n00b to audio.

the logitech speakers are designed to be used alone. the amp on the sub powers all of the speakers and is fed signal by the control pod. in reality there is no reason to run the 5500 with a receiver and doing so will not improve the sound. i understand doing this if you wanted the control of the HK but i still do not recommend that route to gain expandability.

what i am trying to get at is why do you want to use the receiver instead of just using the 5500. there will be no improvement to any aspect of the system other then you can plug more stuff into the receiver. the sound will not be any better... you are just adding connections that are not needed.

if you have a plan laying out what you want to achieve then we can better help you.

westy 37in, ps3, wii, 360, HD Cable Box, Computer. all i want to be able to use with this speaker system

much better... thanks for the info. now i need to know if you already have the receiver and 5500.

for that much stuff you will need a switch to consolidate all of the digital sound. the 5500 has 1 optical, 1digital coax and 1bank of 3 analog inputs for discrete audio.

the receiver has 2 optical, 2 digital coax, 5 stereo analog and 6 analog inputs.

hooking the logitech sub to the avr-146 will work if you use a digital coax cable from the receiver digital out into the 5500 digital coax in. then set the speakers to small in the receiver and cross them over at 120hz.

the receiver can hold all of your devices but it is not practical to use the 5500 with a receiver. i would save up and buy speakers to go along with the receiver to have it right the first time. doing a patch job like this means when you try to upgrade you effectively wasted money on the logitechs unless you plan to use them for something else later.

let me know what you want to spend and we can help you look for the audio gear you need.

have the 5500 have my mind set on the avr146 because of brand and price i trust HK products

i just looking for a speaker system similar to the 5500

any speakers you can recommend?

1000 budget

building your own is a great way to get what you want at a good price. i have done diy stuff before but for me i dont have a passion for speaker design so i would rather buy what sounds good to me

for a killa-buck you can buy the avr146 and the entire X series speakers an sub. they will absolutely destroy the 5500 and you can upgrade as you see fit when the right time comes.

AVR-146
onix speakers
onix x-sub

other stuff to consider:
infinity primus can be found cheaper
energy take
polk R series

stick with the onix x-sub... there is nothing else at this price that will perform better out side of a crazy sale or maybe diy. you will have to spend $300 for an Ed a2-250 or a bit over $400 for an svs pb-10/nsd to get any significant clean output above the x-sub.
