Be cheap, stay 939?

Hey all, I've currently have a 64 3500+, ASUS A8n-sli deluxe, 1gig gskill ram, 6800gt, 10k rpm raptor. I did not know you could get a dual core 939. I was going to upgrade all out with a new e6750 rig and all for over $1000. I know i do plan on getting the 8800gt. So I was wondering would it be worth it just to get the x2 4200+

some memory, and a eVGA superclocked 8800gt. What do you think? Would save me around $800 or more. What performance difference, honestly, would there be between what i'm talking about and a e6750 OC to 3.2ghz be? Would it be extremely noticeable? Gaming, such as crysis, think it would do good?

Also it will be running XP pro

Im in the exact same boat you are. I just bought the 8800GT because the 6800GT died and was thinking of what to do for upgrades and had the same question.

Hope someone has a good opinion for us. :)

Haha crazy we have the same exact build. Anyways, I either spend around $400 on upgrading my current rig with the x2 4200+, superclocked evga 8800gt, and 2gb corsair ram. OR building this rig, and selling my old one for $250 to relative of mine. Making this rig somewhere around $700, give or take a few alterations.

I run on S939, and have witnessed many C2D rigs at a few LANs lately. For daily activities, and most games you really won't see or need the performance increase from C2D. The video card is still the limiting factor. However, video encoding, and some of the newest games like Crysis and UT3 you may see a difference.

I'm still of the opinion that S939 is viable. In my eyes an upgrade to the video cards I have, like a 8800GT, would be all I need to stand toe to toe in real world gameplay against a C2D rig. However, I run at 1280 rez. If you are running a 24" monitor or so, then maybe your CPU would play a bigger factor?
 
I think you won't noticed a huge difference if you stick with the 939 platform. As of now (for your case) it'd make more sense to save the $800 rather than spend it all for maybe a slight noticeable performance increase with the C2D.
