Leopard Hacked To Run On A PC

Seriously, why dont people get all freaked out when someone talks about unlocking the iPhone, or putting custom firmware on their PSP? Its the same damn thing. Anyone with a leopard disc can download legal patching files and break their own license agreement by patching it to run on a PC.

I think you're the only person who freaked here. Relax.

Is it Apple who doen't want to provide the Leopard OS to PC owners, or is it really Microsoft who is behind it?The claim for copying software and OS's has been that it is taking sales away from the product owner/developer. With the Leopard OS, on the otherhand, that isn't the case since it isn't even available for the PC market, in which case, are you stealing it by putting a copy of it on your PC?For $127, I would buy it, if it were available for the PC, but it is not. :( If some kind of a boot disk becomes available for loading the OS on a PC, then I will buy the Leopard OS. .

I very much doubt if Microsoft is behind it or Linux, Solaris, Unix, BeOS or any other operating systems would've never been around either.

Apple just loves being a genre of their own.. or perhaps Steve Jobs fear to let the world know just how fragile MacOS really is ;)

Unix was out long before Microsoft even existed. I don't know anything about Solaris. With Linux, we know Microsoft is doing it's very level best to destroy it, and w/BeOS, we know Microsoft had something to do w/it's demise. So I find it very hard to believe that Microsoft hasn't made some kind of deal w/Apple, especially when they came out w/their x86 hardware and OS.

I don't know if this is against the forum, but I don't think so. I mean, we are not talking here about how to do it, the OP is only letting us know about the news that probably will come in TV anyways. So, I don't see nothing wrong in it.

By the way, this is crazy. Hackers now are better and better. Greedy developers just can't keep up now. Maybe they are thinking about making money all the way to the creation of things, and forget about other things like security, and the benefits of the customer.

Greedy developers? How is apple greedy by limiting the market for their OS?

I suspect the only reason Apple doesn't sell it for all PCs is they have no desire to support all the hardware that might be in a generic PC.

Well that, or there's not really as big a market for OSX on cheap hardware.

If Apple were to officially support, it I'm sure they'd have a version of the OS that was more expensive for first time buyers....and then the upgrades would be the same as standard OSX. If Apple could double their marketshare, I'd think that'd be at least as good as selling the Macs (assumes at least $200.00 for non-upgrade copies)....and 10% marketshare would likely lead to even great marketshare.

they'd probably sell a few apps too. Then again, they tried this before, and I guess it didn't work out all that well.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I am sure apple allowed this - that or someone got fired.... probably good old gorilia marketing

this is good. no messing with JAS ISOs hat are an osx 1.4.3 kernal with the 1.4.9 patchwork that causes problems.

I would never buy a MAC, stupidly overpriced rip-off...but I would consider runing their OS on my PC for work purposes.

Microsoft has to make an OS that will run every single solitary piece of hardware known to man...and then some....in two billiondy different configurations.
.

Actually no. Microsoft just makes the OS. Someone else builds the computer. Its up to 3rd parties to make it work on whatever configuration. For example microsoft doesn't make video drivers. Ati and Nvidia do but MS will sometimes include those drivers in the installer cd.

Because it's just THAT simple, huh?

:p

No.

Drivers communicate with the kernel. Drivers communicate with software. Software communicate with registry. Software communicate with DLL's. DLL communicate with Services. Drivers communicate with Services. And so on and so forth and ecetera. It's a billiondy two-way street.

If that's all there was to it, then Apple would support all the hardware that's available for PCs.

Even apple fan boys know that part of Apples success is the vertical nature of their product, which by definition limits the variety of hardware and configurations you can have.

On a PC, you can generally buy a random network card, a random video card and a random sound card, put it in a random desktop PC and it will work.

It's not always the case, but most of the time it is. You can't do that with a Mac. My guess is that Apple has a say on what hardware can go in their machines, which the HW vendor must sign to get a SDK to develop drivers for the 2 or 3 video cards they're allowed to put in a mac.

I dunno, I mean look at all the trouble that NV and Creative had at Vista's launch. I think creative still has problems with 4gb of ram in Vista 64 with their cards. So its not like everything is working perfect in Vista either.

And thats not even random hardware, but big name hardware.

By the weekend I should have my copy of Leopard ($40) and then I'll have it running on my my Notebook either as a third partition or on an external.

I think you're forgetting that Creative has a history of bad drivers and bad support.

With that said, my ancient SB live had basic support in Vista, as I recall, in RC2.

I personally am hoping that some other company comes out with a decent gaming card that has great support for non-gaming audio...in particular stereo audio going both in and out. I've never been impressed with the creative cards for anything other than games, though they are better than what's built in to most MBs.

regardless, the spectrum of hardware that goes into PCs many times wider than that in a MAC, for better and for worse.

Does anyone know if this can be installed as a dual boot option along with XP or Vista or all three???

Isn't it against forum policy to discuss using Mac OS illegally? :D

But that's pretty cool I guess. Makes you wonder why Apple wouldn't just release a non-Mac version if it's so easy to hack it. If you can't sway someone to buy a Mac, you can try to get them to buy your OS at least. Seems like they could make a little more money, no?

All of those "hackintosh" users are Apple's Beta testers, didn't you know?

I don't think it's against forum policy to discuss/link to an article that discusses news about such things without actually providing links to where you could download it, or hosting otherwise illegal material on said web page.

Shooting somebody is illegal, but linking to a news story about guns, or a story about somebody being shot, that's not illegal.

BeOS was friggen awesome, Windows STILL hasn't caught up with it. BeOS had one of the most important features that any user OS should have: the GUI always responds to you. With the power of computers today it's simply ridiculous for a modern OS not to have this feature:

Realtime interactive GUI where the "Explorer" interface NEVER has a pause - certain parts of applications could have pauses, while data is loaded, calculations done, etc, but the USER INTERFACE should ALWAYS be real-time responsive to the user. It's SOOOO irritating when the GUI freezes because of a hard drive IRQ timeout! Ugh.
