I'm going to buy a a monitor for the sole purpose of gaming only. I want to get some great speakers since the monitor does bring any, so im going with Bose's Companion 3.

My question is , will i be able to just plug in the speakers to the monitor since i don't have any tower. The monitor is a Gateway FHD2400. It has a lot of inputs. Will this work?

You don't have any tower? You want your monitor to handle sound via inputs? I don't get it.
There are much better speakers for the price than those Bose things

Ooh so you need some sort of input switcher. They have them at radioshack, thought I don't know what their quality is.

Again, there are better speakers for the price than those Bose.

Edit: If you do buy those Bose, they have dual inputs, so all you would need are two RCA to 1/8th stereo connectors.

I dont know the exact specs of the monitor, but it has a load of inputs. Its a HD monitor.

As somebody who bought (and I do mean bought) into the bose hype.. 701's, 501, etc, etc... I implore you to look at some other brands. Bang for the buck.. not so much. The ONLY good thing I got out of that was my Velodyne sub.

No matter what, I couldn't get the sound to converge to my satisfaction in my lazy boy, 15 feet from my TV. I have heard much smaller speakers, and have been floored by the reproduction / response vs. what I have now (locked up in storage, really can't stand them, and too lazy at this moment to sell them, but that will change here shortly).

Granted, it's your money; but I'm a firm believer now of the theory that the more commercials you see, the more crap-tastic the product is (see Bud / Miller commercials for proof).

Well, it's worth mentioning that Sams Adams makes some great beer. I used to see a lot of SA commercials!

There are some well known addages concerning Bose.

"No highs, no lows, it must be Bose"
"B.O.S.E. Buy Other Stereo Equipment"

This is a great read if you want to be a Bose hater (tm) just like me:

For a plug in desktop solution the Companions are superior. Show me a pair of Logitechs, Klipsch, or other plug and go speakers that have a comparable sound stage. I own a pair of Bose Triports and there amazing. There even more amazing on my X-Fi. I own the Bose Companion 3 and there amazing as well. I use to own Klipsch5.1 and they come no where near the sound stage of the Bose. Granted I could buy a receiver, amp, and $1000 of speakers but that negates the point of dropping $300 dollars for high quality speakers and easy setup.

The Bose Companion 3's have decent sound, but for $250 they're way overpriced. They sound comparable to $100 speakers.

Also, the line in on the volume puck sucks majorly. It introduces a helluva lot of noise.

I really appreciate your sarcasm. It's pretty clear that you are skilled and practiced enough to be able to say that with a straight face. Kudos to you sir, kudos!

Comparing Bose to say...Audioengine or Swan (even higher on the performance scale) for desktop speakers is like comparing your Miller Lite to Guinness, Bass, Harp.. hell, even a nice holiday Sam Adams. Yea, its beer, but not really :).

In the end, it's about preference. I can't make you change the type / style of beer you choose to drink, only suggest that there other, "better" beer for you to try and make a decision about.

Compaing the QC3's to say a set of DT770's (broken in), or 900's... I've listened to the QC3, and while not bad, the premium vs. performance is a bit off. Again, it's your money and your ears. Just try not to get bought into the hype like I did. I spent over 1300 bucks on a Bose experience, and truly regret doing so (getting fisted and your wallet stolen is / should be included apparently at time of purchase).

That and the new Swan 2.1 setup will most certainly demolish Bose and is what Bose should cost max at $100.
