Yes, the headline says “cow power.” What the hell is a cow-powered laptop? This explanation ought to help:

"We plan to drive a dynamo (taken from an old Fiat) through a system of belts and pulleys using cows/cattle," wrote OLPC's Arjun Sarwal, in an e-mail dated Oct. 21 and posted to one of the group's discussion lists.

I don't understand why they won't use the tried and true hamster and wheel method. Sony Online Entertainment uses that to power their Star Wars Galaxies server. Granted, they seem to forget to feed the hamsters quite often.

How much Horse Power does a cow have?

Seems to me that OLOC is doing a lot more then just providing the laptops and then saying you figure out on your own how to get those batteries charged.
A lot of the target of these laptops don't even have electricity so if they cant charge the batteries then there useless. Props goes out to OLPC for taking the necessary steps to make sure this program works.

It doesn't create horse power, it creates Cow Power :D

I bet they are talking about some kind of methane/ethane generator.
But in India? Aren't cows holy? That would be some kind of god-generator....

It would be a generator based on god-farts!

Nope, there talking about making the cow walk in circles to power a Dynamo, which is what those flashlights/radios with the handcrank use.
