^^^^ post is exactly what situation you're in. Note it^^ Yep not stable. If you can't get at least a couple hours out of it (I've heard anywhere between 3 and 24), then it's not stable. Bump up the voltage one more level (if you can).

A little hot, and let it run a little longer (at least an hour), then try fiddling with the settings again. I'm assuming you're on the stock Intel heatsink; if you are, I strongly suggest either NOT overclocking any further, or getting yourself a nice after market heatsink/watercooling.
zalman 9700 (signature).. This is only a stress test. I presume that during games it is unlikely to reach such temperatures.
Next stress will be 20 minutes.
What about mem timings? Right now it's at 5-5-5-15 and 2.1v
I set ram to 950Mhz in BIOS, however, everest is reporting 472.2 (x2 = 944.4 Mhz).
Why?
To keep it there I have to run 1.42Vcore. In the bios for me that's a 1.4625 setting.
I believe that's vdroop, don't be concerned too much, just make sure what it reads in windows is consistent.
Temp is the killer here for the overclocks, at 80C prime can go at anytime, I'd upgrade that cooler if I were you.
How was the base when you installed it, possibly lapping it could improve your temps... though unlikely it'll improve them enough to drop your temps to 'tolerable' levels.
I believe the base if firmly placed on the mb. I first applied it with the zalman thermal grease that comes with the cooler. A few weeks later I reinstaleld the cooler with Arctic Silver 5. I cleaned both CPU and the cooler with alchohol 99% and q-tips.
I was actually talking about the base of the heatsink, ocasionally there are milling lines left from the manufacturing of the sink which causes air bubbles to form between the sink and the chip, (leading to higher temps.)
Keep in mind it doesn't need to be a mirror finish but it should be flat/smooth. If you hunt around the forum a bit there are some guides linked for heatsink lapping, (if it needs it).
if you can feel it with your fingernail, it's a deep imperfection. Milling marks are basically remnants of the tools used to machine the bottom.
lapping is done only over the CPU's heatspreaders, right?

is that a lapped surface? I know, the CPU side sucks..................
What direction is the fan of your cooler facing? maybe you could get more out of it?
