I'm looking for suggestions for a great LCD.
I've tried the LG246, but had to return it due to bad pixels, and the store didn't have another one and the sale ended. The blacks weren't that great, and sRGB just wasn't bright enough for my likings.
My roommate has the Samsung245, and I like the blacks and brightness, but the viewing angles make my eyes unhappy (Thanks to TN panels).

My question is: Which would be the best gaming LCD thats 24" plus?

I guess I wouldn't mind going back to the LG if I could get it again on sale.
I do play a lot of RTS games, so ghosting gets really annoying after a while.
Price wise, I'm willing to spend around 600, maybe 700 if the monitor is absolutely the best.

Soyo 24" for $300 at OfficeMax...

P-MVA panel... not TN... 24"... no dead pixels on mine...

Playing games, no ghosting that I noticed, I came from an FW900 and I love it so far, I'll put some updates if I have any troubles. But I turned motion blur off and played some TF2 and it looked awesome, just as good/better than before. (I turned motion blur off so I could see if there was any ghosting)

And it is VERY bright, there's an option for like "super" brightness and it was definitely too bright. My old Princeton 19" LCD that was a 2nd monitor to the FW900 was noticably brighter than the FW900, and the Soyo makes the princeton look like a piece of shit honestly.

Very happy with the Soyo, once I get more income I'd definitely grab a 2nd one.

I remember paying $800 for a 20" LCD that had severe ghosting which I dropped for my Sony 17" Trinitron... it seems LCD tech is finally catching up... it's not perfect, but it's pretty damn good.

I have no idea if it is the best, but I love my Dell (sig). It seems to be a bit of hit and miss on the QA from what I have read, but mine is great.

I dunno what it is going for atm, but I got mine for well under $600 directly from Dell a while back when they did a deal.

Lol it won't. I checked out the Soyo at OM before I bought my LG...That says it all. I wouldn't have spent the extra $200 on the LG if I didn't think it was worth it. Now, don't get me wrong, the Soyo looked pretty good...ESPECIALLY for $299. But the LG won me over in the end.

I really like the LG when I had it, but the blacks are annoying in strategy games when there is fog of war. Then when I set it to sRGB like every says, I DO get better blacks, with more details, but the colors are so dull that I have to turn the brightness back up to where the blacks aren't black anymore; just like regular 'user' mode.
That is the ONLY reason I am looking for a different monitor.

Did you set your brightness/contrast settings in the Nvidia control panel like people have suggested? I have no problem with blacks on mine using sRGB

Unless you calibrated both monitors exactly the same, running the same image at the same time, it's kind of ridiculous to make those statements.

When I went to office max they had the wrong resolution running on it (1440 x 900) and it looked like garbage, but I knew it wasn't going to look like that when I got home...

(Shitty camera + no tripod = blurry pics)

LG is the same style P-MVA panel...

Trust me, it was in its native resolution. I did VERY thorough research before I chose my LCD last week. I didn't say the Soyo was bad. As a matter of fact, it's very good for the price. But I didn't feel it was as good, or produced as nice of a picture as the LG.

Just my opinion...you can agree or disagree, but that's how I felt when I compared the two monitors. And that's why I chose the LG and never looked back. The LG isn't perfect. I hate the fact that it gets stuck in suspend mode, but I can live with that by using a workaround.

Again, just opinions...And by the way, if my budget were less than $500, the Soyo would've been on my short list.

I did adjust my nVidia settings to someone suggestion, but it was more for color. Maybe I could find some more settings from someone else. I plan on getting the LG again once its on sale to give it another chance. Like I said, I would have kept the LG if I wasn't forced to return it.
Also, price isn't that big of a problem for me. I don't mind spending 500 on the LG. Plus I'm sure the Soyo is 'good for the price', but 300 for a 24" monitor makes me cringe.

I think it's funny how you judge something based on it's price.

BenQ makes the panel in the Soyo... the Benq version is $600+ and the Soyo is $300...

You could have 2 of these for the price of any "high-end" 24" and if you took the panel out of the case and set them all next to eachother, calibrated them, you couldn't tell the difference.
But I'm not going to argue, it's your money, I think it's stupid to buy something that is going to display 2,304,000 pixels exactly the same as any other 24" with a similar style panel.

And rittia... like I said, I doubt it was calibrated... I made sure I had a return policy at Office-Max, I didn't care how it looked in the store.
It's your money, I offered a suggestion and it apparently isn't "high-class" enough... lol...

Soyo = Geo Metro of 24" LCD's... :D

Wow, I'm not sure why you're getting defensive about the Soyo...and saying things like "it's your money", like we're making a mistake buying the LG.

I judged by what I saw in person. Isn't that how it's supposed to work?!?

I liked the LG better...I bought it...I'm beyond happy with it. I looked at the Soyo...I didn't like it as much. It's like you're trying to sell the Soyo to me or something, and I don't get it.

My purchase wasn't about me "throwing money around" or something being "high-class" enough for me...It was about buying the monitor with the best picture, best looks, best inputs for my needs, etc...And the Soyo didn't cut it for me. I'm sorry...

Indeed....It's about what monitor suits your needs the most. Even if two monitors use the same panel...One priced at 499 and the other at 399..They can give completely different end results. There are so many different panels you can't really say they're all the same....Firmware can also kill a good panel. It could be the best panel in the world...But if it has shitty firmware...it's going to be a shitty monitor. Now I'm not saying the soyo is shitty..Don't get me wrong..I'm not even speaking about the soyo...Just TFT in general..Even two monitors of the same panel can give completely opposite results.

But yea..let people decide what they want. If he was unhappy with the soyo let him be...Not all monitors are the same.

The LG has blurry text/picture, any moron can spot it. Something is seriously wrong with your vision if you don't. Theres a long thread on this forum where someone zooms in on the pixels of the LG then on a TN or IPS panel and it's CLEARLY much more blurry than a TN or IPS.

The LG might be better but no where near $300 better. The Soyo is excellent bang for the buck if you know how to calibrate your monitor or have a Spyder2Express. I find it hard to believe the LG will look better than the Soyo calibrated with Spyder2Express. Soyo + Spyder = like $200 cheaper than the LG.

Roach you're right...I bought a blurry monitor because I LOOOOVE blurry text.

Wow...just wow. Both of these monitors use P-MVA...so I'm assuming you think the Soyo is blurry too? Have you even checked out the LG in person or are you just spouting what someone said in another thread, who probably had a faulty monitor?

And lixuelai, it was $200 more, not $300...I paid $499 for the LG. I'm not sure I would've purchased it for $599.

There is a reason why I want to wait until the LG is 500 again, because I don't feel like its worth 600. If there was something exactly like the lg with better blacks and a faster response time, it would be MINE.

And I see roach says the LG is blurry all the time, but I completely disagree. I had the LG, it was near perfect.

Does anyone know the difference between the: BenQ FP241W, LG L246WP-BN, and Westinghouse L2410NM?

Dose anyone know if there is alot of input lag with the soyo. Is this a gaming tear monitor where you can aculty play games without noticing any delay in controls?.

You must have lots of friends and have lots of sex.

I own a LG L245WP-M since June and I haven't noticed any blurry text or picture. So you are saying I am a moron, so I say to you, fuck you.

Yep, had one for 2 days then returned it. It is nowhere near as crisp as a w2207 / 226bw / 245bw / 20wmgx2. On a normal monitor theres a pattern of square pixels, on that monitor you can't even see them, everything just blurs together.

No, I think it's the fact that you're making a generalization that just isn't true for 99% of the LG 24" LCDs out there.

Maybe you should've returned it and got a new one. There's a reason most other people agree with me in saying it's not blurry.

Sorry about your luck for getting a faulty one the first time, but s(%t happens...

EDIT: I checked what you said about pixels...Odd because when I get about 5" from the screen, I can see each individual pixel...

Nope, wasn't my monitor. Several other people in the LG thread noticed it. It's a problem with lots of MVA and PVA panels and the person that did close up screenshots of the pixel structure on this forum proved it.

Ok, I give up. Roach you're right...Everyone else is wrong. I can't see the individual pixels. I must be hallucinating. In my alternate universe, my monitor is very sharp with awesome colors. Excuse my bout of dementia please...

You're going to have to count me in too. Rittia, you and I, and almost every other person who has seen the LG must be in the same alternate universe.

I must say... I'm actually impressed by the pics of the Soyo... I may grab one later when I make more room to put it next to my 32 inch Sharp.... Thanks for the info :)

Can anyone confirm if the Sayo monitor has any delay/lag with the controls in video games and regular computer use?. Thanks

Also can you give me an example on how the monitor feels with fps games and classic side scroller action games. Is there any noticeable problems in the delay at all. thanks?:D

Nope, I haven't noticed any lag at all with regular computer use or gaming. I play a lot of Counter-Strike and it works great. I just have to get used the the size difference between this and my 20".

This thread is kinda lost if you ask me.. It should be about helping this guy picking a new monitor.. not about "I like my monitor and hate urs" ;), right guys? :p

anyways. Im on the hunt for a new gaming lcd myself. Been thinking about HP W2408. Has anyone here tested it? Pros, cons? Is it like the popular W2207 but bigger? How about ghosting? Colors? I know its "just" TN, but is it a good one?

Btw. Is every company such as samsung, hp etc having several different panels for every model? Just found out HP does that too.. Come on. Help me, help this other guy out. :D

thnx guys(and girls)

This thread was precisely that until Blazestorm basically started telling us we were wrong by stating our observations. He tried telling me I was wrong with what I saw when I compared the Soyo and LG...How anyone can say what I did or did not see is beyond me.

Then you have Roach stating unequivocally that the LG is blurry when it absolutely is not. Then he goes on to say it's a problem with all PVA and MVA panels, which means almost all 24" monitors would have that issue, including the Soyo.

Like I said before, The Soyo is a great monitor, and in its price range it's gonna be tough to beat. You aren't going to go wrong with either of the monitors. I preferred the LG and that's why I bought it.

You need to decide what's right for you...I base my decision on inputs, aesthetics, overall display quality (color reproduction, black levels, ghosting, etc...), and input lag.

Just go...check them both out. Consider your budget. Pick the one that's RIGHT FOR YOU...not the one that's right for Blaze, Roach, or myself.

rittia1962 -> any ghosting and so on while playing games on ur lg?
I'm thinking about this LG and HP w2408. the'yre in the same price-range.

Ghosting is pretty much non-existent on the LG. In all the games I've played, I haven't noticed any.

I think the only way you'd notice any ghosting is if you were a die-hard CRT-aholic.

Boy the soyo is looking more and more tempting coming from a vx2025 do you think I'll be happy with the soyo? I'm so close to pulling the trigger!!!All I need hooked up is my PC xbox 360 and HDDVD goes on my 46 inch HDTV... I do however understand if say you lived in a dorm or a small space and you needed your monitor to be all world this may not be the ticket.

I just picked up the Soyo; out the door for 381, that is with tax and the 2 year additional warranty, which was 49.99. I am loving the monitor so far. It is awesome, I just plugged it in and everything showed up just fine at 1400X900, which was what my old monitor was set at. I changed it to 1920x1200 and upped the DPI on the font to a custom setting of 110. I will post some pictures later once I get my new computer put together. Sort of a package deal. I am really impressed so far with the monitor. My model was made in July 07.

I'm still thinking that I'm going to pick up the LG again once its on sale. I haven't heard anything about the soyo con-wise. I need to know WHY its 300 dollars cheaper than the LG. There has to be a reason.

You should go check the Soyo out. If it makes you happy, save the $300 and get it. Makes more sense to me.
