My rig is in my sig so have a look at that. Do you guys think its worth me upgrading my comp? I built this rig 2 years ago and its been fine until yesterday when my RAM blew. Im getting this RMA but when i opened my rig, it looked old and dusty etc lol. I wouldnt mind upgrading it to be honest but is it worth it?

My current rig is fine and does everything i need it to do but i wondered if i did upgrade my rig, would it be worth the money as i am saving up for a car. I play on my xbox 360 for games as well so gaming on my computer is hardly ever.

I have been looking at the new Crosshair motherboard and if i was to upgrade, i would probably do this:

Currently:
Asus A8n SLi Premium Upgrade: Asus Crosshair
Currently: Amd Athlon 4800 Upgrade: Amd Athlon 6400
Currently:2gb Ballistix RAM Upgrade: Corsair 4gb (or Ballisitx 4gb)
Currently: Nvidia 7800GTX Upgrade: Nvidia 8800GTX
Currently: Windows XP Media Centre edition Upgrade: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit

The total for the upgrades is around £1000 ($2010). What would you guys do or what would you change in the upgrade list etc. Or should i save up and buy a car?

Get a better heat sink and overclock your cpu, you have great motherboard already, so upgrading is a waste. What size monitor do you have, 320 or 640 GTS should be more than nuff for a serious boost fps.

IMO: if you're not gaming that system is almost at a waste!

If I was you I would actually sell off the video card and downgrade and put the money towards a nasty heatsink and overclock like it was my job, and then throw the left over cash at a car.

Or just get a heatsink and OC.

Or perhaps a new case, and re-do the way your pc looks to bring it more 'up to date'.

I run a far superior system that I overclocked and since I don't really play games much it does more than what I need it to do.

Like others have said, clean/dust the system up then get a better HSF. Thermalright ultima90 + good 92mm fan then OC it. Should last awhile longer.

If you aren't gaming, your current system is fine. Especially if you need to money right now for a car. If down the road, you are truly having problems with your current system and really need a rig, then it would be more worth it.

If you do decide to upgrade, take a strong look at the Intel C2D procs. I think they are a better value right now than the AMD stuff.

What does the $500 8800GTX do that your 7800GTX doesn't if you don't game?!

I think your MB is fine, your graphics card is already extreme overkill, your OS is fine..... upgrade the RAM if you feel like you must but I don't see 4GB doing anything at all for you over 2GB.

Get your new RAM or whatever and clean up inside the case. If you want it to feel new, put it all in a new case and do a fresh install of the OS. You won't even be able to tell the difference between your current rig and your proposed rig if you're not gaming.

i suppose you are right guys, i dont want to change my case because i had modded this a little (painted it (black gloss), cut out some holes for fans etc) and there isnt another case like it. I guess i could paint the inside of it a matt black and then put everything back together after cleaning it, that would help lol. I just upgraded my heatsink as well from some small akasa one to the ninja scythe plus (big difference it made to temps aswell)

Any ideas on how to get rid of dust between small gaps.

A can of compressed air and a vacuum cleaner will take care of it.

<joke>Ask your mother ;)</joke>

Ditto to the compressed air and the vac. If you've already replaced your HSF then I'm assuming you know how to take apart a computer so just disassemble and blow it all out. Compressed air has a little tube to concentrate the flow of air. Pay close attention to the RAM, PCI-e, and PCI slots since dust can get down in there and mess up the connections.

Blow it all out, and then spring clean your HDD with a defrag, virus check from safe mode, and a disk clean up to delete all that old pr0n :)

Some people use small paintbrushes.

FYI, you wouldn't have noticed much difference between your old system and your upgraded parts, especially if you don't game, lol.

Wait as long as you can, buy when you can't wait any longer.
