Mexican Billionaire Carlos Slim has promised to donate hundreds of thousands of low cost laptop computers to Mexican children.

Slim is listed by Forbes as the world's second-richest man with holdings worth US$53 billion (euro38.79 billion), but some financial analysts say he may have overtaken Microsoft founder Bill Gates as the world's richest. Speaking to foreign correspondents on Thursday, Slim said the ranking meant little to him.

So, if he's got the money to do that, why can't he fix the gaping wound that is CompUSA?

Oh, besides the CompUSA issue... Is Mexico that bad off technologically that they need donations? Admittedly, I know little of Mexico's economy, but from what I've seen, city dwellers seem to be OK and the people that can't afford computers have rotary phones like the one Timmy's parents in Lassie had. LOL

I know this was for a good cause, but I have a hard time saying "what a nice guy" when he made all his money running drugs up to my country.

This news posting seems to contradict an earlier posting saying that slim is the richest man in the world.

QFT!

It says that there were two sources. One said second, one said first. Besides, it's all theoretical money anyway. I don't think it matters much.

Matters to me, I need to know which address I need to blackmail. LOL JK!

To me, they should rather just leave it out than guess.

It is a rather nebulous concept to report on. After all, it's not about how much money they have, but how much they are worth, which makes no sense to me. If I'm worth $1million, but I only have $10k, then as far as I'm concerned, I only have $10k. If you can't spend it, should it be counted? ;)

Sounds like a fair assumption to me. To me it's what you have in your bank or what's liquid to you in a 24 hour period.
