al sharpton will be all over this

Let him, itll be a spectacle of how lopsided certain people want the world to be. They sure as hell didn't have a problem killing white zombies since the damn beginning, but God Forbid you make some black.

Only racists see this as racist.

White zombies and spanish zombies were already covered. Now it's black zombies and now it's a problem? Please.

Sucks, looks like RE5 is going to get a shitstorm going it's way.

Japanese devs make games about killing white zombies = entertainment.
Japanese devs make games about killing black zombies = racism

Nope, that really doesn't make any sense at all. Hell, from what little plot has been released so far, your character is sent into the village to help and on behalf of a charity.

Also: Are Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson going to hold rallies on behalf of the oppressed minority undead unfairly held back from their delicious meals by the imperial, brutal white man? The comedy potential alone staggers the mind. NAAUCP? NAACZ?

Shocking! Shocking, I tell you! It's just so shocking that there is so much shock about this shock-fest. Shocking.

I saw this comming....

When I saw the trailer I thought, "SWEET!.....Oh man Civil Rights people are going to be all over this like white on rice......in a snowstorm.....in a carton of milk.......in Antartica."

"Or would that be like black on beans.......in a cave.......in a can of black paint........in space."

I'm not surprised one bit. This reminds me of The Lord of the Rings. It was considered racist, because the cast was all white.

I'm going to watch the trilogy. It's so fucking good. :) Perhaps I'll look at the ludicrous observations those ignorant people make.

Gotta say that the world is full of idiots making big deals out of nothing. I hate living in a politically correct world.

I'm a descendant of a chinese railroad builder. We cut corners and did a crappy job. That's how us slanty eyed merchants are. Now then, want to buy some fried rice? I sell to you fai dolla.

A lot of the younger generations stopped caring about racism since there's so much goddamn global integration. People need to just stfu sometimes.

It's so annoying that anything anybody can find that offends them, they make a big deal out of it. In Resident Evil 4, wasn't Asa Wong asian? It would be equally humorous if say, white people complained that a asian woman is killing white people.

damn whitties have been kill the black man for years, at least this time the black man is a brain eating zombie.

the main guy who plays the leader of the Urukai and the litch king isn't :p . ...only a bitter betty that can't let go points that bullshit out. this is 2007. let the shit die once and for all

man games kill whitey too!

You fail to see my sarcasm.

I was just pinpointing another example.

Racism is silly, however considering anything involving/not involving black people racist for the simple reason of them being/not being there defines the word: silly.

Well I wouldn't care if a game was created that involved a black man coming and killing white people. Stupid really.

What about that movie Blade.

I thought all the vampires were white, getting killed by a black hybrid.

I just think some people take things way to serious.

How come there’s a channel called BET and not a channel called WET. I don't see all the whities getting mad BET (Black Entertainment Television) It just seems like its ok for things to be one way but the second it gets flipped around all hell breaks loose.

I think that the context of the video game lends creedence to the killing of these zombies that just so happen to be black. As far as I can tell its a village in an African country, and surprise surprise there's black people in that village.

Anyways when I first saw the trailer I thought "oh shit, zombies!" not "Oh shit black zombies!"

so yeah the only racist people find this racist is a great way to put it.

Yeah hell if a black chris redfield was taking out zombies in a predominantly white city we wouldn't hear a damn thing about it, because no one cares unless it's the "helpless innocent" black people being targeted. I'm sure the Japanese devs at Capcom are laughing at the kind of crap that we as a society have to deal with. Guaranteed that the blog maker immediately thought that since the protagonist is white that white people are the ones to blame for this "racist teaching game".

didn't Bad Day LA feature a black guy killing mexicans?

never played it as I hear it's an awful game.

I know many of you guys are white/Asian with very little cultural knowledge of other peoples. But 'zombies' as they're called in the western hemisphere are barrowed from African cultures or those derived from them such as Afro-Caribbean(Haiti, Jamaica, etc) and African American(voodoo practiced mostly in the southern united states) cultural/religious practices.

I am myself of African descent, African American, to be exact. I myself do not think that their is anything suggestive of racism by depicting people whom are of African descent as zombies. As I already know that in the previous resident evil games there were nothing but Europeans in a similar setting(shacks, barns,etc...) as the people of African descent in this video. Though, I can imagine if one has never played the RE series or isn't familiar with African culture or the African diaspora as these supposed African women seem to be may think it was influenced by a racist idea, behaviors, or mentality. Additionally, I don't know why they assume it's in Africa. It could be somewhere in the Caribbean for example, Haiti.

Also, for the 'reverse racism' comments. I think there is a big difference where we have a game that is produced predominately by whites/Asians, which both have a track history of being extremely intolerance of other races/ethnic groups. And you have people of African descent from Africa, America, and the Caribbean who are the descendant of people who've been through slavery and the aftermaths of it till this day, colonialism(in Haiti/Africa), and Apartheid. That's a history of events targeted against a group of folks who share a loose cultural heritage and whos ancestors come from the same region. It's obvious why no one says hey RE:4 is racist since we have a white guy killing white zombies, duh?

Though, the imagery that is sent out about such images does make people think "damn, that's racist some white/european guy killing hordes of black people". And also it is not utterly apparent that these folks are zombies. Two guys are talking as normal, though zombies did speak normally in the previous game sometimes too...These game I come to find out is produced by Japanese folks, and Japan has a record of being a racist country to asian minorities, blacks, and other nationals from other countries.

Only racists see this as racist.

exactly, that is how it always is, no matter what you put, someone will make an association to some race / person / sex / alien and scream bloody murder, for fuck sakes, grow up people.

When I saw the trailer, I just thought..

"Finally a reason to buy a 360!"

As others have said, the game takes place in Africa! What would you expect!? If the setting was in Antarctica you'd prolly see penguins!

Fuck Al Sharpton

QFT. It seems to me like we would be better off without idiots like him stirring up trouble.

I'm sure it's already been said, but there didn't seem to be a problem when white zombies were being killed in RE 1-3 or when Spanish zombies were being killed in RE4.

But now that the game takes place in an African part of the world, it's racism.

Fuck. That. Shit:rolleyes:

But it would be one thing if this specific main character was once black but suddenly turned white JUST for this outing, no?

The point is that this is a seasoned character who's been around since the beginning, and it just so happens that he's in this game, too.

I see what you're saying, though, and it can be "suggestive" being that a white guy is killing black zombies, but the fact is that that's just not how this game is intended. There is no hidden agenda behind it.

Exactly, no because that history does not exist for white people of being chastised on television, at shows, and in the paper for being of European descent. But people of African descent have faced those situations for hundreds of years.

This Zombie craze in the west is derived from West African cultural traditions, so maybe instead of add historical/cultural information into the story/trailer. Knowing that your game is going to be the biggest seller in a country(United States) were people of West African descent have suffered and continue to do so and the average video gamer joe has no idea of where zombies come from.

I think zombies themselves are being discriminated against! The politically correct term is "Living impaired person"actually.
I mean, they are just out looking for a meal, and people are shooting and hacking them up! These insensitive people who are spitefully hoarding their own brains need to be stopped! :D

A statement on par with what caused this thread. Question: Hutu vs Tutsi, which ones were the intolerant whites/Asians? I'd really like to know, because I had reached the conclusion that groups did bad thing to other groups for a variety of reasons: skin color, politics, wealth, religion, tribe/nationalism. It certainly is a simpler world if I can narrow it down to single people who don't fall prey to such behavior.

I would understand a controversy if the game took place in America and all the zombies were black, but that is clearly not the case. Some people are just TOO stupid, I guess. It's sorta like complaining about Godzilla killing Japanese people in the movies.

Uhm, it does. I think you need to examine your prejudice. "White" doesn't really mean a whole lot in historical terms. "Whites" didn't magically discover prejudice along with other skin colors. We practiced on each other for quite a while and with quite a few different reasons. It didn't magically end at America's shores either. Many groups of "white" people landed here in the face of the same sorts of prejudice that you seem to hold as the exclusive history of those of African descent. You are simply wrong.

Not really. The term "zombie" is derived from voodoo (thus African via Caribbean cultures), but every group has stories of a form of the undead that match against modern zombie lore. Hell, the Sumerians believed in the undead rising to eat the living.
