It looks as though Hitachi has jumped on the H20 bandwagon with a water cooling system for desktop PCs. While the article says “world’s first hard drive liquid cooling cold plate,” the truth is that hard drive water blocks have been in use for years.

This cooling device launched in Tokyo is a new system adopted Hitachi’s world-leading advanced CPU liquid cooling plate and the world’s first hard drive (HDD) liquid cooling cold plate jointly developed by NEC and Hitachi.

Doesn't look like it'll cool THAT much... but I guess it's being advertised to quiet the system, so that's cool.

How the hell can they bugger that up? That's not even marketing spin. That's either gross ignorance or an outright lie.
Given the bad history I've had with other Hitachi products, I'm definitely not gonna spring for this.

The statement could be considered technically true. It may be the very first HDD H2O cooler that Hitachi and NEC have developed for the world. An ambiguous statement, yes. It wouldn't be the first time a tech company made a technically true but misleading statement.

Must be a hard sell after Google's findings reporting no correlation between high temp and drive failure.

Sigh, when people say they are the first in order to get attention (cough Hitachi, cough Apple)... It makes me want to go kill baby pandas :(

Drive plates and drive cooling mechanisms has been used since the PIII days, if not before that. I think even Koolance had a marketed system out years ago to cool drives using a pad and plate.
