New Build...worried about temps

Hey guys,

I just finished my first SFF build and I have a few questions about temps. My rig is as follows:

Corsair HX620W PSU
Intel Core 2 Duo e6600
Silverstone NT06 Lite HSF
eVGA 8800 GTS 320 mb
Silverstone SG01 case

Alright so I have re-seated the processor once and I am running at stock speeds, but since this is my first SFF, I am a little worried about temps. So here is my Speedfan screenshot under some load (Running WoW, installing C&C3, and dowloading patches)

at some points, the Core 0 and Core 1 temps can climb to 56 - 57 degrees. First off, I am not exactly positive which temps are which. Is there any way to decipher which ones are which? And secondly, are these temps out of range for a Core 2 Duo in this case?

Thanks

It's pretty hard to try and figure out which temps are which, you can try matching them to temps your reading in the bios.

As for the cpu temp, that does seem rather hot for stock speed. Especially since your cpu usage is basically idle there. What kind of temps are you getting at the desktop with nothing else going on?

I'm pretty sure the stock Intel cooler would do better than what your getting currently... You may want to try a second program like CoreTemp to see if it's reading the same.

From my own experience, ignore the core0 core1 readings. The First temp is your north bridge temp and the 2nd temp is ur cpu temp. The core0 core1 temps are the actualy readings INSIDE each core (or a sensor much closer to the core than 'normal' processors). The 2nd temp reads the temp from tpretty much the same place as other processors and will allow you to gage ur temps normally.

If you try to go off core0 core1, you will ALWAYS think ur cpu is running hot, even if you underclock it.

here are my temps

you will notice that I have labeled them and have also removed the core0 core1 from showin up (its annoying lol)

Hope that helped

Also, I been rockin this E6300 at this speed (2.8ghz) from the week they came out last year and temps have been the same so I know its nothing to worry about. You can also touch ur heatsink and you will see its not that hot to the touch

Well I suspect that your HS mounting is probably wrong because I have Thermalright MST-9775 LE in virtually the same setup and my temepratures are a bit lower.

I use it without a fan because there's not enough space for it. It also has only two heatpipes compared to three of your NT06-Lite and is a bit lower in height so PSU fan doesn't have as big effect as in your system. It came bundled with thermal paste so maybe you should consider using some as well.

I've had mine with a 9500 zalman and a blue orb 2 and its still the same.

For you to have those temps you would have to have set the offset for the core0 core1, either you did or someone else did as NO ones core0, core1 temps are equal to the 2nd temp reading outside of calibrating the offset so you need to find out WHO offset urs if you didnt do it urself lol

I used Artic Silver 5 and i'm pretty sure I set my heatsink up correctly....i've reset it twice and the temps are about the same each time.

Same here dude! Arctic Silver 5 and temps are the same. As I say, my temps been here for about a year (has it been so long since core2 debuted? lol) and its never presented a prob.

Well I was considering NT06-Lite vs. MST-9775 and I'm glad I made the right choice. I had stock cooler before and the temps were the same as yours now. Under 100% workload from TAT my core temps were reaching 81. That scared the sh*t out of me. And to the bin went stock cooler......

52C isnt bad for under load and it is a SFF case. They dont allow the cooling their bigger atx brothers do so it all looks fine to me. Have you run CoreTemp for a comparison? I like to use SpeedFan and CoreTemp and compare. You should also run Orthos to get a comparison as well.

All I know is if Temp2 is my cpu... I think it's running below ambient right now... CoreTemp is giving a much more plausible number and consistently does so at least for me.

And when did they make it so you can't link to a full size image with imageshack?

From Gigabytes own app for monitoring temps you see that temp 2 in speedfan corresponds to the cpu temp. You will also notice if you check the bios.

I dont know why intel put more sensors in and multiple sensors as well, but I go off temps 2. I have done orthos for over 24 hrs testing stability and heat and its been rock solid.

Hope this helps

Well I suspect that your HS mounting is probably wrong because I have Thermalright MST-9775 LE in virtually the same setup and my temepratures are a bit lower.

Could merely be a difference in ambient temperature between the rigs.

Don't use speedfan to check temps on Core2 builds, it reads the temps differently and gives you temps that are like 15°C lower than your actual temps. Use Coretemp or RMclock instead.

And on Speedfan, the Core 0 and Core 1 temps are the processor temps, not anything else.

Actually, my Speedfan matches perfectly with my CoreTemp. Don't know what you guys are doing.
