I've been reading this forum for a little over a year now and since then I have been really wanting to buy and build a computer. Well, I've finally saved enough money and I've been doing a little research and I was hoping I could get a little more guidance and feedback on the parts I've come up with so far. I'm going to be using this computer mostly for school work which include office apps, photoshop, and flash. I'll also being ripping quite a few DVDs and CDs. Not too much gaming, if at all it will be older games so nothing too demanding. I've had my current computer for 3 years this summer and I'm hoping to get about the same life out of this one. Aiming for around $1,000 or less.

Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 (link)
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (link)
Memory - CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 (link)
Video Card - EVGA GeForce 8600GTS (link)
PSU - Corsair CMPSU-520HX ATX12V (link)
DVD - Lite-On SATA (link)
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 160gb (link)
OS - Window Vista Home Premium OEM (link)
Case - Antec P180

I have a couple questions also:
1) I know I have to wait until July 22 for the price drop for the CPU, how much of a drop should I expect to see?
2) I don't think I'm going to overclock, am I going to have to buy a better CPU cooler?
3) Is the video card overkill? I'm going to be using two 1907 monitors.
4) I've been in love with the P180 since I've seen it and I know I've missed a few killer deals on it the past couple of months. Anyone know where I could find the best price?

I would personally either cut back and get a E6420, or stretch the budget a bit and get a quad. Option 2 I think would be better. After july 22nd of course.

As for the cooler, just keep the stock one. It is really quiet. And cools the quad at stock okaly.

Well the Q6600 stock isn't great. :(

If you plan on doing even a small amount of OC'ing or want a reletivly quiet PC then aftermarket cooling is the way to go.

Thanks for all the responses:)

Well I guess I have a couple more days to contemplate over the processor. I just want to make sure that everything is going to work together right.
