Hmm unfortunately I've decided to go back and remake a casual character with WoW and I have a few questions I don't feel like bringing to the hell that is the WoW forums.

#1) Do I need Burning Crusade if I'm sticking to the old places? I plan on exploring places I've never been too on Azeroth, etc...not really planning on getting to 60-70 anytime soon.

#2) Is there a full retail patch download somewhere? All I find are incremental patches. I have the old old retail copy.

No you do not need the expansion, that is only if you wish to expand beyond level 60, see the outlands, and do upper level instances.

Not quite sure of #2, but are you referring to the original game, a download version? Directly from Blizzard they do not have one, they only started to provide that with BC. Though other websites might, but you probably must buy the game, so if you have the CDs I would just use those.

If #2 does not answer your question sorry.

I think you are stuck with incremental patches. It kinda sucks, you just gotta find a link from your version to the latest.

Check assorted download sites (filefront, fileplanet, etc) for full patches. I don't think they release full patches each time an incremental is put out, but I know for some of the larger ones Blizz will release a full patch.

I think there's probably one for 2.1.0 since that was the latest big content patch released. It won't get you 100% of the way patched, but it'll get you a helluva lot closer than incrementals. Plus, you won't have to wait for the stupid blizz downloader bullshit. You'd think that they could afford a site to host patches with all that revenue pouring in.

Go to bestbuy or some other store like that, There will be a "Trial" DvD of wow, that is almost uptodate (no BC on it). It's 1.99. You install that, and once you pay for monthly service thats a real version. You don't need to buy the first game anymore. (I'm not sure its a legal copy, but you have a legal copy sitting on your desk so meh)

You can download the game from BLizzards site whcih is updated to version 2.1.2 I believe. There are only couple of patches past that point.

Or you could just go buy the game again. It comes with 30 days ($15 value), so it really only ends up costing you $5.

The current version as of this morning is 2.1.3. That patch was only 3.6MB. The one that you really want is the patch up to 2.0.1 as that would be HUGE (i think it was 465MB).

If you use the downloader, I found that as long as you didn't block the updater port on your firewall, you can get it in about 15-20 mins.

I just downaded about 1.5gbs of patches from my retail copy purchased in Oct 05. I called Bliz to revive one of my old accounts with a 60 on it I think...which I don't plan on playing.

I think I'm going to level a rogue or a warlock. Not sure which yet.
