on the E6850 train. and saying "screw you hippies" to Q6600 lol lets point and wave.

Yes. insane. totally.

Im wondering who else will be aboarding the E6850 purchase rather then Q6600?

Me. Unless for some reason I don't have enough money; if so, I will buy an E6750. The Q6600 is basically like a "Pentium D" quad-core. I'm going to wait until quad-cores become more mainstream and are physically built better (all four cores on one die, rather than 2 dies stuck together). AMD seems to be going down the right track with that.

Will Intel's 45nm Quad-Cores (Yorkfield?) be true quad cores? Or just another Kentsfield glue-together quad core?

either way, I'm sticking with E6750/E6850 when I build at the end of the summer.

I'll be hanging onto the E6750 coach.... Few apps at the moment can use the Q6600 to its full potential and it is too damn hot when running others. By the time quad optimised apps are mainstream we will have the cooler running Wolfdale.

Just a question at michael. Will you be upgrading the mobo cos the 6850 ain't fitting that one.
Plus which mobo is the most suitable one for the 6850 and the upcoming penryn's (i take you're going non-sli just like you did with the P5B-e?)

its Michal. but no its not going on the current rig.

P5K deluxe + E6850 (2gb OCZ reaper pc8500 which I already have)
And my Lian Li 1200bplus2 case which I received yesterday and has already been gutted.

Along with that Corsair 620watt PSU and EVGA 8800GTX GPU

all this will eventaully be watercooled. ;) soooooo lets say. lost of money to be spent this summer :)

I have an Asus P5N32 SLI Premium motherboard. Would I be able to put on an E6850 if I updated my BIOS to current? Or am I looking at getting a new board too?

I jumped the gun and got an E6400 with a bearlake motherboard. The way I figure it, I'll wait until everyone else finds the bugs before I invest in it :)

Kidding really. I'm on the fence right now. I am kind of in the camp of waiting a little while to see where the new quad cores go before settling on it.

I dont even have to upgrade. My current rig is good for what I use it for.

But hey, we make money for a reason correct? hehehe :D

But after my next build, it will be awhile after that since I will build a new computer.

e6420 here. My next upgrade is the next generation of CPU, my current system is adequate.

Well I would like to know why e6750 instead of Q6600. I will be buying come the 22nd basically for Bioshock and Crysis which are claiming to have quad core support. Now I have heard so far that it runs hotter which I am not concerned with, and that it is 2 pentium D's slapped together which not true either (its 2 conroes slapped together - may not be a bad thing). I am sure others have their reasons other than gaming for not going quad, but I would like to hear them (sound reasons that is).

E6750/E6850 for shizzle.

When the drop comes, the price for the Q6600 will be worth it for me, but I hear that G0 is the Jesus Christ of dual core steppings and I can't pass up the chance to be the first guy on my block to have a daily 4.0 GHz rig. :p

I really am still on the fence between the two. sigh.

A g0 e6850/e6750 OC'd to 4.0 Ghz would be quite amazing for things to come.

On the other hand, a 3.2-3.6Ghz quad core (g0 ? ) would be freaking sweet as well.

Although, i do have to wonder which of those would perform in multi threaded upcoming games like alan wake, ut 2k7, etc.

even if the Q6600 has go steppings does not really mean that it wil run cool enough when @ 3.5ghz range. Water cooling will probably be mandatory since they do run much hotter.

Ide still prefer E6700/E6850 over the quad .. for now anyways. :)

You must have missed the thread at xtremesystems about Q6600 ES g0 running at 4.1GHz on AIR cooling. Granted they were engineering samples but gives an idea how much cooler these things will be running. ;) Anything other that a Q6600 g0 (for me) would be nuts ... especially since I can use all 4 cores for my work which is going to put a hurting on any dual even if higher clocked.

im always on xtreme but the thing is. It was also watercooled. and not only that temps were still high.

But the thing is we cant say every Quad g0 stepping will run 4 ghz. That insane. Im sure the guy was pushing 1.6vcore. maybe more?

it is 4GHz on air not watercooled (see mid way of page 2) at least thats what he claimed.

I find it extremely hard to trust at least 90% of the claims put up on the net, people tend to tell a ton of stories as there's no way to prove them right or wrong. .............

On the engineering samples that were released of Conroe before it's introduction were yielding the same results....but, when they actually came to market, those results weren't easily achieved.

If you can remember, 4GHZ on air wasn't uncommon, until they hit retail and those results were quite a bit different then the engineering samples that had everyone up in arms.

I have to keep myself grounded and believe it when I see the retail results, until then, I'll look at it the same way I did when the initial Conroe results were released.

Anyway for the same price a 3.5Ghz Quad or a 4.1Ghz Dual core the choice is easy to me...

I was replying to you, I wouldn't necessarily consider yourself able to hit those numbers, and be stable for everyday use, unless your using very high end water or phase.

I'd be hesitant to guarantee yourself that amount of oc until retail has shipped.

I hopefully will be getting an E6750 with an evga 680i-A1 mobo.

E6750 / E6850 seem to be less disappointing when it comes to true overclock.

the Quad ahh, would be nice, but no use for it whatesoever.

what will the e6850 cost? that would be what i would choose depending on price.

God you guys have money to burn. :D

with the new prices that have been projected, its not all that much money. especially if you already have a lga775 board.
q6600 - $266
e6850 - $266
e6750 - ~$199 *can't remember for sure*

I think the 6850 would be better suited for my uses, mainly gaming and Internet.I think it will be quite awhile before games will really take advantage of quad cores.

the e6850 won't have the power like the x6800? can it be over clocked to come close?

In stock form, the E6850 is slightly faster (3GHz/1333MHz FSB vs 2.93GHz/1066MHz) and if it's the G0 stepping E6850, use less power on full load and probably overclock better.
