Specs look good. But for me personally I would look for a higher screen resolution.

Just some advice, I hear the SB audigy is a waste of money as its really only software. You can buy 2gb of ram off newegg for under 100 dollars instead of paying a premium to dell to upgrade to 2gb. And the screen resolution I would upgrade to the higher resolution one.

Those are just my personal opinions on what I would do.

Looks good to me, except I'd get Vista Home Premium and Intel Wifi card. Unless you plan installing your own copy of XP or something.

...Intel Wifi card...

I missed that one, if you plan on ever running Linux you'll want the Intel card because the Broadcom ones are notorious for having problems in Linux. NDISWrapper can only do so much.

Its good, i;d consider if you really need 7200rpm hdd. if this is your primary go for it, if its the counter part to a desktop maybe save some cash with a 5400. Deffinelty get Home Premium and an Intel wifi card.

Also as mentioned, ditch the dell ram upgrade, just get from newegg for $80 new and sell the stuff it comes with to save even more. As for the audigy stuff, its a waste of cash on vista, it is only software and on XP it still seemed to add some sound quality and useful items, on vista its very limted, and buggy and unstable to boot, i know, i have it.

I would go for the 1440x900 on a 15" I have 1920x1200 on my 17" and the resolution is nice, especially for multimedia type stuff.

WTF did you upgrade to hit $1700?
Same advice as everybody else. Ram through newegg, intel wifi, and up the screen to at LEAST 1440x900, if not 1680x1050. And home premium as well.
