yeah I think the people who bought one last year got one of the best deals on a cpu ever. Wish I had bought one in july and not waited till november :p
 
yeah, I sold mine for a very reasonable price to someone here and she did 3.6 easy. I can get the same with my quad but still, 3.6 stable was so nice.

Lucky for me, doing an HDR render in Maya 3D or maybe Lightwave 3D says you're wrong, but yes, they're not most every application. 2 mins for the quad render compared for 3 minutes and 42 seconds for the dual...

3 GHz Q6600 >² 3 GHz E6600

and yes I use 3 GHz as the reference point because using different speeds when comparing CPUs (even dual against quad) is just plain stupid. If you're going to compare CPUs, they need to be running at the same clockspeed for any significant data to be meaningful. Even at 3.6 GHz the E6600 would still require about 3 minutes 20 seconds to do the render, so the Q6600 at 3 GHz still trounces it.

It's a given that multithreaded apps aren't the overwhelming majority of applications, but I don't buy the majority of applications so that's not a variable that even matters. I know what the Q6600 can do - or any quad core for that matter - and for multithreaded apps, it'll beat the dual cores every day and twice on Sunday.
 
I have always had AMD cpus execpt for my 1st 486 computer. I just built a new e6600 system and it blows everything I ever had out of the water including my latest cpu my FX60 oc to 3.0. Got my E6600 right up to 3.6 prime stable and I'm loving every minute of it.
 
if ur getting 3.6.. i mean be happy :) thats great.

im stressing out my old E6300 right now. :)

if I get 3.5 ghz I will not be upgrading I dont believe :)
 
It is a nice processor. I have one in a GA-965P-DS3 rev1.0 board with 4 gigs of Wintec AmpX DDR2-800 RAM and an 8800GTS..... and man! does it ever run great. I can 'crank' up every game I run to max and it just keeps asking for more.I won't even look at anything else for a while.
 
Have to say... for the 10+ months I've had my E6600: favorite processor ever.
 
yeah it's pretty awesome, a slight letdown thus i was hoping for more OC power,
but i get 4059Mhz which is nice indeed but i wanted 4.1 or 4.2 Ghz.

I have to say that my dual Pentium Pro 180's overclocked to 200MHz were my personal favorites. I also really liked my dual Opteron 254 rig.
 
i've got a vapochill lightspeed :p, and i know it aint a bad overclock, but one always want more.

I can't really overclock that heavily in my Shuttle so I went for the cheapest CPU which still had 4mb L2 cache back in December, which turned out to be the E6600.

It's been worth every single penny I spent on it. I was happy to just get 3.0 ghz. 4.0+ is insane!

Ditto. I love my E6600. It's been stable at 3.6Ghz. I got into Windows at 3.95Ghz but it quickly craps out. I'm happy at 3.6GHz.

I was hoping for 3.2 to 3.6 on highend air and that's what I got 3.6 at 1.45 v with a Tuniq Tower . Year 4 ghz is insane.

But hey, I'm only 600MHz off that when I run my "higher" overclock. I'd go for 3.5GHz, but my DS3 is weird and will not post properly at any speed above 3.4GHz no matter what FSB and multiplier combination, though I can overclock further in Windows using Easy Tune 5... but I don't like the thought of Windows overclocking.

Bah, my Pentium Extreme Edition 965 can do 4GHz all day long. :D
