thanks all for replying.
but seriously now, have you got an 8800 ultra in sli, how much is your 3dmark06 score? (i not going to ask why i promise)
I'm not going to passed judgment on people but it seems that its a waste. Well minus the e-penis factor and even then most people in the know are just going to roll their eyes.
bah! there are those who make enough cash that a piddly grand on a gpu is f 'all to them. they'll sell like hotcakesWho in their right mind would buy an 8800Ultra for $830
A grand isn't a huge deal to me at this point in time, but wasting money is never a good idea no matter how much money you have.G'ßöö;1031013520 said:bah! there are those who make enough cash that a piddly grand on a gpu is f 'all to them. they'll sell like hotcakes
Well I can afford to buy a pair of them in SLI, but it would be a waste of money. The difference between the 8800GTX and the 8800Ultra is so small it just isn't worth it. I spent $650.00 per card on the 8800GTX's and I won't spend $1600 for a pair of cards that are only %10 faster on thier best day.

This is a refresh product, so if you already had one or two 8800 GTX's then it would be a waste to upgrade to these.
But I don't have an 8800 GTX, so this is a much more viable option, even with the current price premium, especially considering that my 7950GX2 quad sli doesn't work in Vista. The 8800 Ulra is the best single card repleacement for the quad sli setup IMHO.
I don't think so. The best bang for the buck is still the 8800GTX out of the two cards in question. The problem is that you are going to have to spend about $200-$250 more for 10% of performance increase over the 8800GTX. With overclocking, and perhaps better cooling, the 8800GTX makes the most sense as it should be able to reach the 8800Ultra's performance levels or get damn close.

Dan "whine for me" D to the rescue. We're so lucky we have someone like him to tell us how to spend our money... over and over and over again.
It's my opinon. Spend your money how you wish, and I will do the same. Many people agree that the 8800Ultra is a waste of money including myself.
Not to derail the thread, but try $150 for the avg. price nowadays... or $400 for 2 gigs of memory.
The Ultra isn't that much better than the GTX's, it's a waste of money.
