According to Reuters, Microsoft is renewing its efforts to buy Yahoo after the recent Google / DoubleClick deal.

While the two companies have held informal deal talks over the years, the latest approach signals a new urgency on Microsoft's part, the paper said, citing unnamed sources. The approach follows an offer Microsoft made to buy Yahoo a few months ago, the Post reported, but Yahoo spurned the advances.

I personally don't use Yahoo for anything other than their e-mail.

Come on, resist Yahoo, resist these please. Do not allow Microsoft to purchase you.

I personally don't use Yahoo for anything other than their e-mail.

I don't even use that. :D

I used Yahoo! back in high school during Physics class. Of course, the school's proxy had it blocked, so we had to register on the UK site to play pool and euchre. Some of my classmate would be euchre teammates and talk to each other while playing. ;)

I use Yahoo religiously since the first day they launched :)

Anyways, this is good news. Time to rival google a little.

This may be beneficial as long as they dont make Yahoo as disorganized looking as MSN.com

Why the dire need for Yahoo. It just a search engine, just like Google.

What is it about Google that has Microsoft so scared?

I never use Google. It's not that I have anything against it, but I've used Yahoo for years. I never even think about using Google.
.

Sounds like a bad idea. Right now Yahoo has to compete with Google, which means they have to work hard to develop new webapps and services. With the backing of M$, the drive wouldn't be as dire.

Plus I can't say I'm a big fan of any of M$'s web portals.

If I didn't get spam all the time in my inbox I would love yahoo. I've been in the proccess of moving all my email from yahoo to gmail but it is taking alot of effort. All email for the past 8 years is alot of email. Also to note I only ever use their email. I don't use any other service than that.

In other news, in a competitive move sure to topple their rival Microsoft, Google is in negotiations to acquire Excite...

Not saying that they would ever consider such a move, but if they did, it would be for the reason just because they could
