Vista 32bit + X-Fi XtremeGamer.

I just got around to trying to use my mic with Teamspeak last night, couldn't get it to work, troubleshooted for awhile, made sure it was the default audio device in control panel, tried windows recorder as well to test. Nothing, 100% silent.

So I rebooted, went to bios and turned on the onboard audio. Plugged headset and mic there. Let windows boot up and find default drivers for the 965 HD audio controller. Told ventrillo to use that for playback and recording and worked great.

I guess it's fine as it is, use the X-Fi for game audio and the onboard for just the times I need to use vent...

Wondered if anyone else has had this problem with the X-Fi, any solutions?

Actually, you may be able to just set the X-fi for playback and set the onboard for recording. Quite a few devices don't work very good in Vista yet due to poor driver support from alot of different manufacturere. Some people said that Youp Pax drivers work better then the stock X-fi Drivers in Vista. They are supposed to give you all features aswell. So I have been told.

Are you using the front Mic port? On mine (using the Platinum with XP) this is actually Mic 2/Line 2 not Microphone.

Since the XFI uses a flexijack for the digital output/mic input, you should check your audio settings. make sure you have the digital I/O turned off and have the creative stuff set to use it as a Mic. I don't know exactly where to set this in vista now though (sicne the creative apps don't work and it was in the THX panel). If you grab the YouP-Pax driver set, you can use the thx panel in there to set it up correctly.

I have just a plain analog 2.1 setup, it's a nice 2.1 system for a 2.1 system, bust still just 2.1

I don't know how the flexijack would have gotten swapped, but that sounds like a really good theory, I'll check that when I get home from work. thanks!

I set Ventrillo settings ONLY to use the onboard for playback and recording ;)

X-Fi is still windows default for playback.

I have the same problem and last night if I yelled into my mic some people could faintly hear me in CS:S so I think the problem is the gain, not that it doesn't work. I haven't had time to dig further into it.
