I am wanting a widescreen LCD that will work for my PC and my PS3. I am wanting to hook my PS3 by the HDMI connection and run it at 1080p.

So, my screen would need to have at least 1 HDMI connection and be 1080p. Also, VGA or DVI for my PC.

I have been looking at 22" and 24" models from BenqQ and Sceptre.

What does anyone suggest in the price range of less than $400?

Personally, if I spend nearly $1000 on a screen then I will pay a LCD TV and then use the PS3 to that.

I am wanting something with a reasonable price for my PS3 and PC.

I have a gateway FPD2275W 22" panel. I've had no issues with it, I do have a little bit of screen bleed at the bottom, but considering it has dvi, vga, component, composite hook up is a definite plus. It'll run you around $400, right in your price range.

Just noticed right after I posted that it doesn't have hdmi. It's still a good panel though. :)

I don't think you'll find a display with 1080p res in that price range. The 24" dell is 1920xsomething resolution, and starts about $600 on a good day, and that's one of the cheapest.

The 22" and 24" models you're looking at are probably 1650x10xx resolution, so would have to rescale 1080p input (though they might be able to accept it as an input.)

24'' will be 1900x1200, which will take 1080p if it does 1:1.

Not for $400 though, and good luck finding a non-Westinghouse LCDTV that does 1080p for under $1000.

Yeah, I believe that the Sceptre is 16:10 aspect ratio as oppose to the normal 16:9 widescreen.

With this into consideration, as well as the resolution of ? x 1050 (not ? x 1080), would the image still be considered 1080p in HD?

I mean, if it accepts the signal and doesn't show the image in HD at 1080p, then that defeats the purpose of getting this 22" LCD.

Also, I read somewhere that I need 24" or larger LCD for the resolution to be at 1080 and not 1050.

So, who thinks that I should buy the Sceptre 22" LCD? I see many great reviews about it and some rejecting it. The pics that I see look great. But are they actually in 720p or 1080p?

You mentioned the downsides yourself. It's not FULL 1080p, but takes it, and it's 16:10, hence compresses it.

You will need a monitor that can natively show at least 1900x1080 if you want to be able to see the true 1080p video. Those monitors start at 23" and up.

You won't find 24" with all the features you are looking for at $400 range. You will have to settle for pseudo 1080p for that price range.

I ended up getting BenQ FP241WZ for my PC and PS3. What's great about FP241W and FP241WZ is that even if a PS3 game runs in 720p, it has aspect ratio mode to fill the screen as much as it can, and it looks great. Of course, 1080p will look fantastic as well.

Dell 2407wfp has the same thing, but no HDMI.

Clarification: I was alluding that it has HDMI for the PS3 and it will play great. No swapping DVI like the Dell and the Gateway. Although Gateway has problem displaying 720p correctly for PS3.

Okay, so I know that this Sceptre x22wg-Gamer 22" LCD monitor has an aspect ratio of 16:10 and resolution of 1680x1050.

Now, this monitor accepts 1080p signals, but it outputs it at 1680x1050 (which is the monitors resolution). So, would it still be a 1080p signal? I mean, would it look like a 1080p picture on a 1080p LCD TV?

Some say that the sides get cut off but how noticable is it? Any pics of actual gameplay of PS3 games with the sides cut off?

I'm pretty sure a 1680x1050 monitor will not do 1080p not enough pixels. Basically you will have the input downsize to fit to your monitors' specification. But I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong...

you will need a 23 inch wide screen monitor or bigger to show a true 1080p picture. The Benq 24 inch monitor is the best for the money, but the Dell 2407 is a very capable alternate.

Yes...

But no. Not nearly as good.

Perhaps I'll take a couple pictures of my monitor to show you soon.

Yes, if you could show me some pics I would greatly appreciate it.

I have browsed many forums about this particular monitor and the pics appear to show that the monitor has good quality. However, I haven't really seen any that show a PS3 game with a HDMI cable.
