I am planning to get 2 more gigs of ram for my system so I will have a total of 4. But my friends are saying that xp can only support up to 3. Is this true? If so, Is there some tweaks that can make xp use 4gigs of rams, or I should just upgrade to vista?

Thanks.

*EDIT* Is this the right place to post it or should I post it in the memory thread. If so, can a moderator, admin move this thread to the memory section? Thanks again.

The OS of choice won't matter. To see and utilize all 4 GB, you'll need the 64 bit flavor of either OS. If you do a search for this topic, it's been beaten to bloody hell lately.

Eh, my bad. But thanks for the reply. So only the 64bit version will support up to 4gig of ram?

Your video card and possibly other hardware utilize upper memory ranges, so the full 4 gb will not be available to Windows.

I have a single Nvidia 6800GS, and I have 3.25gb available to Windows XP, 32-bit

There have been various setups, where there may be a little under 3gb available.. Having SLI may play a picture as well; I can't test that theory though..
