My friend's pc bit the dust.

She had Athlon 3400, 1gb RAM, and 6800GT

She's buying a Dell Athlon 3800 x2, 1gb ram, x1300pro (please no build your own comments, it's not an option right now)

I know 6800gt is faster, but it is noticeable enough? How will the 3800 x2 / x1300pro handle itself in games like WoW, Oblivion, and other modern games on avg detail?

My mom has the exact same Dell PC.

i have played Halo 1 and Half Life 2 on it and it handles the games decently, but the 6800gt would be faster.

You will struggle playing any of the current titles, especially WoW in certain areas and Oblivion anywhere. The X1300 pro just isn't designed for gaming but for HTPC's and a quiet basic graphic solution.

You would probably get away with HF2 (steam engine) titles but not multiplayer I think.

Your better off spending the few extra dollars on a 7600GT.

If you MUST get it from Dell...get a system with integrated graphics and a spare PCI-E slot and just buy the 7600GT. They charge you MSRP+50% on the video card anyway.

My friend plays WoW with no issues on a 9500pro. Wouldnt a x1300pro be better?

*edit* She does not play oblivion, but has been interested in WoW. She mainly plays the Sims and Desperate Housewives, but just trying to be honest about the videocard thing with her. I'd like for her to have scalability to play modern games w/o issues.

the x1300 wont be able to handle modern games without really hacking the settings down.

Just upgrade the card when you get the machine.

I put an x1300pro in a build I did for my Mom, and it games competently. I could play Day of Defeat Source w/ all the settings on High (except no AA and only 4x AF) @ 1024x768 and have a playable 40 FPS, so it's really not that bad.

It would be able to handle Sims/Desperate Housewives, and WoW (which people can play on integrated graphics, so an x1300pro should be fine).

The 6800gt is better, but you'll still be able to play games with the x1300pro.

The way it sounds, it should be fine with most games at medium settings. That's good enough for me.

No. Upgrading expansion cards/hard drives/memory does NOT void the warranty. Only messing with the cpu and Dell "certified" heatsink does.

I just called Dell sales dept. cause I found a 7600gt under $100 and they state opening the case WILL void the warranty :-\

Ok, I spoke to another rep because I didnt believe the original. This rep says it will not void the warranty unless it's damaged during hte upgrade.

The question is now, will a 7600gt work with vista?

it will work fine

ive got vista and i havent noticed any difference in performance from xp.... nothing is slower... I play wow and its just as fast (i have an ATI x850 agp)

the 7600 will be a big different from the x1300

as for oblivion i dont think it will run on full everything with it.. but it will run decently
