Which servers giving which WUs?

So I'm getting rather sick of these crummy lambda melts, and I'm curious about which servers are giving out WUs from which projects. Is each server dedicated to a single project, or are multiple projects hosted on a server? I just took a look at the server my work machine is currently assigned to, and that one single server is giving out 25% of all the WUs going out.

The server that each WU comes from is listed here...

I'm not sure if your PC hits that server specifically to get the WU, or if it just returns it to that server....

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

Heh--I missed the IP address column on that page when I was looking for that. Thanks!

It looks like a single server is handing out all the WUs for projects 2124-2141.

I wonder if it's possible to block that IP with a firewall/etc? would that keep you from getting all these damn lamda melts? I don't really care what WUs I get, but more my slower machines, these things are annoying at best... It may void the TOS or something, so I wouldn't recommend it, but is it even possible?

That would keep you from getting the lamda melts.

But it would also keep you from downloading any work at all if you got assigned to that server.

Luck ............... :D

but if you couldn't reach server X after so many tries, wouldn't the client push you onto server Y or Z?

Sure, you can block IPs. It's an old trick, and Stanford has ways to prevent that kind of "cherry picking" of WUs.

How long are you willing to let your clients sit idle for them to eventually jump to a new server? Does sitting idle waiting for a different server actually increase or decrease your PPD? :(

I've seen boxs sit idle for well over 12 hours trying to get work from a server.
After the first 3 or 4 tries it slows down to 1 try every couple of mins.
After around 7, it slows down to 1 an hour.
Thats so the servers dont get hammered to bad.

Luck ............ :D

I get the feeling that several of my borgs are stuck in an infinite loop, trying to get work. I had about 7 or 8 machines working a couple months ago, and now I have 4 turning in WUs. Of those, I have (more or less) immediate access to three. So I have three (well, two now, since one kicked the bucket) borgs that are sitting idle, probably because they're trying to get work and failing.

Like I said... I wouldn't advise it, nor have I done ir (or plan on doing it).... just running a thought process.....

other than a reboot every few weeks/months, I rarely touch my boxen... But getting nothing but a steady diet of lamda melts on a sub-GHz machine is well, annoying at best...

So....

zim01 get's a post edited for linking the beta psummary, but a thread about cheating on FAH goes on?

Fixed for true meaning.

Well, that may have some merit too but I still can't believe p[H] has posted also and not deleted this thread.

Well, I guess we all knew cheating was OK here since the ATI x1950 race proved anyways.

Can't believe it. I agree with Marty for once.

Calling Mod Squad...maybe Admin Squad

No one here is saying we should cheat...and as 7im said, Stanford has a "strategy" in place to avoid this.

Marty, I suggest you go make trouble on you own team. ;)

7im is wrong, theres a shocker.... The "strategy" is a load of shit, there are no preventions in place for blockers and very limited preventions in place for dumpers.

Wow, I can't belive the H would keep threads discussion cheating. Just simple respect for the FAH program would be all I'm looking for.

You got a problem with 7im, take it up with him via PM. Enough on this calling people out bullshit.:)

Since when do you respect anything? ;)

DC forum mods really condone open discussion of cheating? Not trying to start trouble, just kinda shocked myself is all...

No problem with GrumbyBeHim, it's just he's wrong.

We do not condone cheating...you know better, so knock it off.
